Boris isolating after being contacted by track and trace

BBC news reports that
’Boris Johnson is self-isolating after meeting an MP who later tested positive for Covid-19.’
The prime minister said he was contacted by NHS Test and Trace on Sunday but is not showing symptoms.’

’Mr Johnson on Thursday spent about 35 minutes with Ashfield MP Lee Anderson who has since tested positive.’

Very convenient after last week’s shenanigans.

AIBU to think that there is no way BJ has been ‘contacted by track and trace’ after spending time with an MP.

We’ve been told to turn our APP off at work.
😡

I had only been at home, in my car, and then in a room with this person the day it pinged so it would be unlikely/impossible to have been anyone else.

Skipsurvey · 16/11/2020 07:00

i dont think most people would self isolate in this situation?

dammed if he does and dammed if he doesnt perhaps?
if you keep your distance you can surely ignore the ping

Queenie24 · 16/11/2020 07:01

My daughter is in a shared flat at university and 2 people tested positive in her flat and none of them were even contacted. I just dont see that the scheme even works.

LondonlovesLola · 16/11/2020 07:01

Stealth: So people are isolating who have been more than 2m apart?!

No, just Boris!
He needs a few weeks to reset after his difficult week.

He didn’t think this through did he?
He can’t avoid PMQs this week though... even if he ‘can’t’ be there in person.

@Anniegetyourgun

Governments aren't usually non-essential, but there's a fairly widespread feeling that this one is Grin
😂😂😂😂
Sh05 · 16/11/2020 07:12

At my son's college kids got pinged who had been devided by a wall!
They were told to isolate but the college does their own tracing and so they were rightly told they didn't need to isolate

madasamarchhare · 16/11/2020 07:25

Exactly why the rule about staying 2m apart if you’re still going to be told to isolate. I thought if you’d socially distanced as Boris says he did you weren’t considered a close contact and therefore no need to isolate.

AaronPurr · 16/11/2020 07:32

I've just seen a snippet of the video message he released this morning, where he said:

it doesn't matter if we were social distancing

Errr yes, it does matter. Confused

AaronPurr · 16/11/2020 07:36

Sorry my post above wasn't very clear. He was taking about having to self isolate, and said it doesn't matter if we were social distancing we still need to isolate.

Skipsurvey · 16/11/2020 07:39

he just wants to hide away.

madasamarchhare · 16/11/2020 07:47

No point in the social distancing then if you need to isolate anyway surely. Is it a rule for a reason or not a rule?

AppleKatie · 16/11/2020 07:48

Well if it doesn’t matter then I want the next two weeks working from home and so I imagine do circa 80% of my colleagues.

Un fucking believable.
In this together my arse.

hopefulhalf · 16/11/2020 07:52

It's incredibly difficult to stay 2m apart at all times indoors. I saw the picture where presumably they were trying to demonstrate how well they were distancing- not 2m and no masks- what on earth were they thinking ?

Sostenueto · 16/11/2020 07:53

Well he doesn't have to do PMQs and answer any awkward questions about Tory infighting or any questions on looming no deal ( or back down on getting crap deal) or questions on how unprepared we are for January because poor thing has to isolate.....yes right I believe you millions won't.

YoniAndGuy · 16/11/2020 07:54

Liar.

Poppingnostopping · 16/11/2020 07:57

What I find incredible is that they are making some entire show of the prime minister self-isolating because he's been in contact (although he says social distancing) and because 'he can't get tested as he has no symptoms'.

What's that about? Private companies are running asymptomatic testing- I'd like him to be tested every single day, and the key cabinet members and any key aides. It's an incredibly small price to pay to keep our country running- it's very bad for the economy, for Brexit negotiations, for the Covid effort if the person who is supposed to be running it keeps on having to self-isolate because they are in contact with a huge amount of people by virtue of their job.

Rapid tests, private tests, all of those are supposed to be transforming this pandemic, according to the man himself. Why can't he develop then a testing programme within his own household for the purpose of keeping things running, same as NHS and social care workers?

I don't think people would find that consistent, I can't believe they are pretending everyone is just the same as Doris down the road and is going to trot along and queue up for NHS testing if he develops symptoms. That's madness, especially as he's had it and was in intensive care.

This makes me think if they haven't got a handle on the testing needs and social distancing of the office of the Prime Minister, no wonder the testing needs and social distancing of the population is a complete shit show.

I think it's entirely justifiable to test more those running the country so they can keep it up and go into important Brexit negotiations, pretending it's all 'fair' is literally embarrassing us again on the world stage (and we haven't even got Trump to point at this time).

LondonlovesLola · 16/11/2020 08:32

He bloody should. He can work from home and appear on video link. Like everybody else. Angry

@Uhtredswoman

Does anyone know why his wife is said by the BBC to be "clinically vulnerable", but he said she is "in the shielded group"?

BJ fuck up or BBC fuck up?

It’s Lee Anderson’s wife who is clinically vulnerable (and probably therefore shielding), not the PM’s wife. I believe BoJo is in one of his brief wifeless periods anyway.
hamstersarse · 16/11/2020 08:38

Clearly the government don’t believe in immunity so what is the actual point in the vaccine?

Horehound · 16/11/2020 08:40

I imagine he could get a test expedited since he's meant to be leading the country.... There's a reason that's not happened. Because it's a load of shit.

Horehound · 16/11/2020 08:43

@hamstersarse

Aren't the strictly dancers all getting tested even though they show no symptoms?!
LondonlovesLola · 16/11/2020 08:44

hamstersarse · 16/11/2020 09:00

@horehound

He’s had it. Are the government actually saying there is no such thing as immunity?
If so, why waste all this Money on a vaccine

Horehound · 16/11/2020 09:04

@hamstersarse well the only thing is a vaccine is a low level dose of the virus so if people are given the vaccine and then come into contact with it fully, the likelihood is they won't suffer so much/at all.
But the point in self isolating is to not spread it to others who maybe haven't had it

CuriousaboutSamphire · 16/11/2020 09:04

Another of those situations where the media, and MNers, would go to town on him, whatever his reaction to the T+T alert.

And no, not a fan, Just bored with the immediate, unthinking leaps to condemn... without proper reading, see whose wife is vulnerable.
