Don’t watch The Crown? I mean individually, on their iPads in the bathroom
Not all sat around the TV 😂
How could they not?!!

I do know a priest (RC obvs) that has never watched a single episode of Fr Ted but he’s particularly devout...

I think the younger royals will be as glued as the rest of us

It’s shit why would anyone watch it.

CheetasOnFajitas · 16/11/2020 00:54

It isn't a documentary, it's a work of fiction, I doubt they will be that interested.

I’d be bloody interested if someone made a fictionalised film of my life! I’d need to make sure that the actress playing me was beautiful enough Wink

katy1213 · 16/11/2020 01:00

Would be hard to watch episode 1 and Diana tippytoeing as a tree elf making big eyes at Charles - without choking into one's royal gin and it.
I'm sure Camilla at least will chortle.

CatAndHisKit · 16/11/2020 02:00

I bet they watch and cringe. Especially the Queen, if she's watching it's for the knowledge of what (further) damage this can cause.

Very bad taste to make a fiction film about controversial personal lives of living people esp public figures. Imagine someone doing this to you including your intimate life and then broadcasting to all, where it's not clear which part is truth and which fiction. Ugh!

CatAndHisKit · 16/11/2020 02:04

I mean no way they watch all of it, just maybe to get an idea.

Colman is a very good actress but her Queen has a totally wrong expression - set and sour with downturned mouth mostly, also a bit hanged dog, where the Queen is reserved but neutral (as a default) with a cheery voice. She can be be in a bad mood obviously but it's usually for specific reasons, not habitual.

SunscreenCentral · 16/11/2020 03:15

I think Olivia Coleman’s QEII is very good indeed. She does show a very human side albeit of a person who has perhaps been warped by duty. I do think Princess Margaret is treated v gently, as is Charles and the Queen Mother.
All that said, I am convinced they all hide out in the toilet with iPads and watch it 👀😆

(To the pp., my RC Priest friend has not to this day seen a Fr Ted episode. Doesn’t (can’t/won’t) see the humour.

I don’t really get it, I’ve explained it’s comedic pathos, it could apply to any human venture but he’s not having it and that’s grand)

I can imagine they might, or might not. It's quite common for medical people not to like medical dramas, or military people to avoid military films. I think they find it difficult to get caught up in the story.

It would be a bit of a laugh I imagine if they did watch it, though some of the sexy bits might be rather embarrassing to watch with the grandkids.

As far as Father Ted, I think religious humour can be rather difficult to get right. Fr Ted in particular can be a bit silly which isn't everyone's cup of tea.

Silvershimmering · 16/11/2020 05:09

No appeal

ImAncient · 16/11/2020 05:38

I don’t watch legal dramas as I get so cross that they get so much wrong. On the odd occasion that I do I’m usually shouting unprofessional/wouldn’t happen at the tv. No different I assume.

IamTomHanks · 16/11/2020 05:40

Or the missing aboriginal children in Canada

Well they wouldn't mention that because it's bullshit.

GroundAlmonds · 16/11/2020 05:43

I think this business of “fiction about real people” has got out of hand now. It doesn’t really make sense as a concept, but they were just about getting away with it when it was semi-historic.

GroundAlmonds · 16/11/2020 05:48

Or freaking out because its about to expose her and her family neglecting 2 family members in a mental hospital for over 50 years and actually had them buried in Pauper Graves...

The two sisters in question were the same age as HMQ and a few years older. How was she supposed to know about it or intervene? How was the Queen Mother supposed to tell her siblings how to care for her nieces and nephews? Not their children. Not the modern age.

Or the missing aboriginal children in Canada

Oh come off it. I’ve read about that lunatic theory. Want to expand on it for everyone else’s benefit @Leaannb ? Or are you afraid of looking like someone who believes the Queen is a serious criminal?

IamTomHanks · 16/11/2020 05:48

I think they probably watched the first 2 seasons, that was really quite complimentary about them, and John Lithgow's Winston Churchill was quite good. There would be a nostalgia factor.

However, the newer seasons are a bit less complimentary and probably much more fictional than the initial ones, so I'm guessing they aren't watching.

isitsnowingyet · 16/11/2020 05:59

@nildesparandum - snap

Never watch Holby City etc or childbirth programs. Urggghhh,

I hate seeing people in pain - God only knows why I became a nurse.

Skipsurvey · 16/11/2020 06:34

probably somebody watches it for them and tells them about it, ie, it's bollocks

SOboredofcleaning · 16/11/2020 06:34

@MrsTerryPratchett ha ha! It's just a fact I was sharing.

Frogsandsheep · 16/11/2020 06:38

I know it’s not the same, but I’m a priest and I love Rev and Broken (which in some ways are very relatable) I have also watched Fr Ted and the Vicar of Dibley which I enjoy but are rather less realistic!

anxiiousone · 16/11/2020 06:47

@donquixotedelamancha

Yes, but you would watch it if it was about your own school, wouldn't you?

Oh Christ no, I don't like seeing that level of violence on telly.

😂😂😂😂

It’s not bullshit. Why would you say that? There is a lot of info out there for you to read.
IamTomHanks · 16/11/2020 07:34

It is 120% bullshit. Every single legitimate piece of media that has even bothered to mention it as well as Snopes calls it bullshit. Queen Elizabeth & Phillip had absolutely nothing to do with residential schools in Canada or the murder and abuse of indigenous kids. That lies squarely on the shoulders of the Canadian Government, to say otherwise is horseshit and deflection.

lockedownloretta · 16/11/2020 07:37

Prince Andrew is noticeably absent. He was 20 in 1980 and in full blown playboy mode with pictures of him in the tabloids all the time.
I wonder why they are keeping him completely out of it.
The other thing is that charles was 32 when he married diana. 32!! She was 20. Bit creepy .

derxa · 16/11/2020 07:40

@furloughandfallow

I wonder if they watch The Windsors as well? That's hilarious.
The Wndsors is more accurate imo. I've been disgusted by this series of the Crown

I really hope so. 95 fights, 95 knockouts!

The Canadian government have accepted responsibility. They named all the 2,800 children who died that were forcibly taken in to boarding schools to assimilate them.

The queen is still actually the Sovereign in Canada and commander in chief of the forces.

Why has this irritated you so much?

Snaileyes · 16/11/2020 08:02

And to be honest - how can one trust snopes et el to be the arbitrators of truth when the organisations themselves are not so transparent and have political bias themselves?
