How are people keeping themselves entertained inside?

I've had another shielding letter Hmm arrive on Wednesday morning. I've gutted the entire house, I've bought new furniture to keep myself occupied getting it put together. There is literally nothing left to do in the house in terms of house work.

We've not got much left to be doing on the wedding planning front, just bits & pieces to be paying off closer to the time, so can't spend hours scrolling through the internet trying to find bits.

I've already been for a walk this morning, intend on doing a home workout once I've had an Argos delivery.

I am bored senseless... despite being on here, I am childless.

I've been writing Christmas cards, watching a box set, reading magazines (I use Readily do have access to loads), de-cluttering, cooking different recipes, getting in touch with long lost friends, I am furloughed but can access some training courses (if I am really bored, have done one already!), spend far too much time on the internet ...

Crafting. Sewing, making clothes, cross stitch, colouring, crochet, all sorts really! Anything to keep my hands busy

Anything to keep my hands busy

this usually results in eating Grin

We watch far too much tv. I read and do puzzles, dot to dot, sudoko. We have newspapers delivered. I’ve taken the dog on his first walk this morning for over an hour and we’ve had lunch. I do knit and crochet but not good enough to wear anything I’ve made.

I am still de cluttering. I retired 2 years ago and have lots of work clothes that I am trying to clear out, plus 100’s of books that I want to take to our library when it reopens.

gretagreengrapes · 15/11/2020 14:05

Craft! Knitting, crochet, calligraphy, watercolour, sewing, card making all of which I've learnt from YouTube. (I'm in my twenties if you think knitting makes you old)

If I had to stay in, the next fortnight I'd be making some lovely Christmas cards, baking, cooking, clearing cupboards of clutter and watching a lot of YouTube vlogs.

Bubblemonkey · 15/11/2020 14:40

Does anyone know of any foolproof knitting tutorials? I tried before & couldn't figure it out & got pissed off Grin

Painting and decorating the house... that no one currently visits. Also addicted to make up tutorials - so I look fabulous, errr, when out walking the dog!

SchrodingersImmigrant · 15/11/2020 14:47

I created my own board game hybrid😂
And tried tutorials on painting from youtube. However, with both hands left, that wasn't much of a success...

Crankley · 15/11/2020 14:50

I play an online game and have also started playing poker online again, for fun, not real money. I'll enjoy it until the point when I'm doing really well I think why not play it for money. That's the time I stop playing for a while.

TheSunIsStillShining · 15/11/2020 14:58

knitting. writing at least 6 books at a time. I wonder if there will ever be material for even one :) knitting.

TheSunIsStillShining · 15/11/2020 14:58

oh, and playing with Lego.

ZaraW · 15/11/2020 15:06

Yoga, meditation, kettlebell exercises, just signed up for extreme abs exercises, cooking, a lot of reading. I'm never bored.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 15/11/2020 15:11

I play computer games. Knit. Read. Watch tv and films. Bake. Cook. Take long baths. Play cards or board games with the kids. Listen to Radio 4 or Classic FM. Occasionally I'll write something if inspiration strikes.

Quite often I'm doing two of these at the once - so the radio's usually on whilst I'm cooking or baking, I quite often knit whilst watching TV, and I read in the bath.

VioletSunset · 15/11/2020 15:31

I have four kids and a dog, they keep me pretty busy!

VioletSunset · 15/11/2020 15:33

Posted too soon, If i find myself with a spare 10 minutes i like to do the adult colouring books, i find them really therapeutic

Wejustdontknow · 15/11/2020 16:06

I find when I’m home I spend way to long staring at a screen, I’m home all day today. I slept in until 9:45, had breakfast then watched a tv show. Made flapjack and had lunch then played a board game marathon with the kids. I’m currently laid in the bath and have a chicken roasting in the oven for dinner. After my bath I will prep the rest of dinner and might do some of an adult colouring book rather than carry on scrolling through Facebook/mumsnet as I’m sure my headache comes from always having my phone in my hand

Wejustdontknow · 15/11/2020 16:07

I am also doing a degree through the ou which I procrastinate on far to much but will crack on with that tomorrow, they have a lot of free courses if you fancy learning something new 🙂

Splodgetastic · 15/11/2020 16:11

OP, If you are not short of cash, try Wool and the Gang knitting kits. The wools are lovely. But you can view their tutorials for free if you want to knit something a bit less spenny.

docemmett · 15/11/2020 16:12

I've just order a calligraphy book and pen - if you're getting married, it might be a skill that would useful for invited, place settings etc?

Ragwort · 15/11/2020 16:16

Afternoon nap every day? Grin

BubblyBarbara · 15/11/2020 16:20

A lot of reading, cooking, listening to the radio and watching TV, there are a lot of great podcasts to catch up with, if the mood catches me I have a Hitachi wand as well

WellTidy · 15/11/2020 16:22

I would do some craft kits. There is one I really fancy on Not On The High Street which is a kit to make a cushion with a retro sweets or biscuits design. The same company make a draught excluder kit that I like too.

I would also watch season 4 of The Crown on Netflix.

I know I would eat massively, so maybe I would do a few exercise classes in the morning on YouTube or a dvd, so that I would feel less guilt when I inevitably ate masses every afternoon.

In reality, I have enough time to do one of those craft things, but work and the DC keep me quite busy, so when I have downtime I just want to flop.

WellTidy · 15/11/2020 16:23

Maybe batch cook and freeze some tasty meals for when your shielding stops, so that frees up some time for you in the future?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 15/11/2020 16:23

Order, write and stamp all your Christmas cards and maybe everyones birthday cards for next year.

Buy a load of brown rolls of paper, stamps and print your own Christmas wrap.

WellTidy · 15/11/2020 16:26

Do you not have any rooms that need to be redecorated? I long for the day (it will never come) when I think that no rooms need either a complete redecoration or a touch up as a minimum. Ceilings, walls, woodwork, architraves, doors, radiators ...
