What are you getting your DP for Christmas?

I find my DH really difficult to buy for. Not only that, I find my dad and my brother equally difficult. All the men in my family! I never know what to get them!

What are you getting for the significant other in your life this year?!!

A Samsung smart watch and some chocolate, maybe some aftershave if the ones he likes are on offer.

Kolsch · 16/11/2020 07:38

A divorce if he carries on leaving the grill pan dirty when he's used it.
Otherwise, nothing. He has everything he needs.

DappledThings · 16/11/2020 07:52

Nothing. At some point when the shops are open again we might try to pick out something decorative we both want.

But we don't buy Christmas presents for each other. The adults on my side have done no presents and just charity gifts for years. PIL have now decided they fancy getting in on that too. It is so much better.

@ViciousJackdaw

The Pyrex Dish saga!!!! That's proper grim isn't it!!! I was going to make a joke and say it was my DH who wanted it but just couldn't.........bleugh

LajesticVantrashell · 16/11/2020 13:02

A Vans T-shirt
The Accidentally Wes Anderson book
A wash bag
A Lino cut art set
A Marty McFly pop vinyl figure
Some welly socks

MoreDrunkThanBlessed · 19/11/2020 13:02

Pants and socks
Accessories for his new car (he’s chosen)
Some stuff for the aquariums (he’s chosen)
The ‘where’s dom?’ Dominic Cummings where’s Wally spoof book
A milk heater and frother for his lattes

Whatsonmymindgrapes · 19/11/2020 13:05

Babour puffer jacket. It’s what he asked for.

icedaisy · 19/11/2020 13:10

I have used the free photo tile app every month so 12 photos for the wall. You pay 5.99 postage but the are lovely and worth that. One of Dd for each month of lockdownGrinHmm

A rugby top.

A daddy mug.

And baby 2 is due Xmas day so that's all!

yeOldeTrout · 19/11/2020 13:13

Garmin that costs £300. And maybe a chocolate bar. :)

Malacath · 19/11/2020 13:49

Finding it difficult. DH's birthday is the week before Christmas and he had a milestone birthday last year which I went all out for. I have barely any ideas left this year!
So far I'm thinking an optical illusion hoodie and maybe a warm borg lined hoodie as he was given one last year and he wears it as often as he can (it's that or his dressing gown and I'm tired of him wearing that for a whole day when it's cold Grin). Maybe a game or 2 for the Switch but there's so many to choose from!
I like the idea of upgrading something they already have and like though.

TonkinLenkicks · 19/11/2020 14:02

Hunter wellies
Super dry coat
Beer gift set
Probably some chocolate and smelliest to go with

We don't go crazy

ComtesseDeSpair · 19/11/2020 14:37

Advance tickets to go and see Two Set Violin - an impossibly geeky pair of YouTuber Chinese classical violinist comedians- when they can tour again, and having a home office built for the back garden.

We don’t really do presents per se - particularly not having moved house recently and been overwhelmed at the vast amount of “stuff” we had to throw away, much of which was gifts we’ve both received over the years from various people bought largely for the sake of giving a gift and which was largely un- or underused.

Call me a grinch but reading this thread makes me feel immensely sad - why are we all wasting so much hard earned money on all this tat ? will it really bring happiness ? saw one poster saying we have a reduced budget of about £100 each to spend - what ??? madness

If people can afford it, why not? After this miserable fuck of a year some nice presents under the tree will be a lovely thing I’m sure.
user68634 · 19/11/2020 16:25

@lovemelongtime Why do you assume it is £100 of tat? If you want to avoid tat, then £100 is a reasonable budget. If you buy something like concert tickets, a coat, shoes, a watch, an instrument, a record player or tech then you won't have any change from £100, in fact it's likely to cost more. Is it so extravagant to buy something like this for your partner once a year? What do you think is a more appropriate budget?

GrandTheftWalrus · 19/11/2020 16:32

A dolce gusto machine
Ps4 game
Pop vinyl figure
Novelty beer glass.

WitchQueenofDarkness · 19/11/2020 16:42

A wheelbarrow - his has finally rusted away

BiblioX · 19/11/2020 18:05

A colour-changing mug and some orange/lemon jelly slices from the kids and his favourite single malt from me. We’re skint.
Last year he got a book, new slippers and a token for a tattoo.
The year before that he got a swish new metal detector.

Horsemad · 19/11/2020 18:12

@ViciousJackdaw, what's with the Pyrex dish? 🤔

ShedFace · 19/11/2020 18:22

Upgraded his AirPods, a reflective running jacket, new sliders, cycling glasses, pants and aftershave. All quite practical and boring tbh but we like to do gifts, it’s nice to make a little fuss of each other sometimes.

StCharlotte · 19/11/2020 18:35

@ViciousJackdaw

Just out of interest, has anyone's DH/DP asked for an extra large Pyrex dish this year?
Grin
StCharlotte · 19/11/2020 19:00

A budget busting rowing machine. He's never actually asked for anything before and he surprised me a beautiful eternity ring this year so I reckon he's worth it. (Also I'll use it.)

On the back of the Christmas stocking thread it turns out he's never had one so I'll be doing that too. Mostly fishing gadgets I think as he's started that again this year.

He'll be shocked not to get any clothes for once!
