To ask about mad itching

Bookworming · 14/11/2020 22:48

It mostly happens when I get into bed, it's mainly on my torso and arms, it's like tiny pin pricks of itchy felling, loads of them.

It drives me mad and stops me sleeping, scratching doesn't ease it much, and I'm itching everywhere, arms, back, neck but not my lower limbs.

If it was washing powder it would surely be worse when I'm dress3, rather than in bed?

I am menopausal, could it be connected?

AIBU to ask if anyone else has experienced this and what is was?

I am going to follow this with interest. I have exactly the same when I get into bed, only it’s concentrated entirely in my feet. I dismissed the idea of washing powder being the problem as we use the same for our clothing and the only time it’s ever a problem is when I get into bed.

Every single night. I’m being driven demented by it.

Mrsmorton · 14/11/2020 23:14

Oh yeah Bed time turbo itch!! I would love to know why.

Bookworming · 14/11/2020 23:18

@ilikebooksandplants and @Mrsmorton are either of you going through the menopause?

I seem to blame everything on that at the moment !

OP posts:
Waveysnail · 14/11/2020 23:20

I have urticaria. It's worse at night. I'm on an immuno suppressant and several antihistamines.

Mrsmorton · 14/11/2020 23:23

Not menopausal. I know this because I also have debilitating night sweats! An amazing dr gave me a prescription to help with this but I had many many tests beforehand, including menopause, TB and the like.

BecomeStronger · 14/11/2020 23:25

I'm similar age and yes the itching, though mine is mostly my neck and chest, plus sometimes face and head.

I think it is a recognised menopause symptom, although haven't been able to establish what to do about it!

SinisterBumFacedCat · 14/11/2020 23:28

I get this monthly, and a massive rash on my torso, neck, breasts, probably head as well but I can’t see it. Dermatologist tells me it’s probably peri menopause and is going to test me for allergies. No hot flushes, wish I could get normal peri symptoms!

Mycircusmymonkey · 14/11/2020 23:28

Have something similar but wouldn’t call it itchy more pin pricks, burning feeling. Get it throughout the day but always worse at night. Waiting for neurology appointment. Had loads of blood tests but everything is normal. Driving me insane and keeping me up most nights!

Londonmummy66 · 14/11/2020 23:30

Mine is around my waist and on the upper arms - and yes menopausal and only at night

Bookworming · 14/11/2020 23:36

I have no rash!

OP posts:
ilikebooksandplants · 14/11/2020 23:37

I don’t think so, I’m only 32.

Confused Completely baffled by it.

TheGoogleMum · 14/11/2020 23:41

I get itchy on my back every night. I dont think I'm near menopause (early 30s!)

MadameMeursault · 14/11/2020 23:44

My friend has this and she is menopausal.

BathshebaWasOnTheRoof · 14/11/2020 23:44

I used to get this before HRT and I think it can be caused by a drop in oestrogen.

Ideasplease322 · 14/11/2020 23:46

I get this - arms. But always have.

dudsville · 14/11/2020 23:50

Oooh, I hope we get some answers on this thread. I don't get this every night but it is often. I don't think I suffered this before a year or two back, and I'm also peri. Sometimes I take an antihistamine to try to curb it but it isn't foolproof.

CornedBeef451 · 14/11/2020 23:51

I think I must be peri menopausal at my age and I have urticaria, I'm on a prescription antihistamine, can't wear anything in bed above my chest and can't get too warm.

bellinique · 14/11/2020 23:51

My dm went to the GP because of this and it turned out to be due to an under active thyroid.

I get it too sometimes but it seems to only happen when I haven't moisturised enough (I have very dry skin).

Itching can also be a sign of liver issues I think?

catfeets · 14/11/2020 23:54

I had this and it was an allergy to the pill. It was due to the time I took it, so 12hrs I was fine and the other 12hrs at night were pure hell. Had to stop taking it as I was scratching so much and couldn't sleep.

helloxhristmas · 15/11/2020 00:00

Oh god I get it, usually before and after ovulation (no idea of the relevance) but I'm over 40 and night sweats too.

Thisseatisnotavailable · 15/11/2020 00:08

I get this on my arms, I have quite a few wounds on my skin from breaking the skin I have scratched so much. It's something that I've only had for about 3 or 4 months now, I'd not considered about if it could be peri-menopausal, I'm 46 so probably not far off?

CounsellorTroi · 15/11/2020 00:11

Itching is definitely a menopause symptom - it's called formication.

Bookworming · 15/11/2020 00:15

I'll get some anti histamines tomorrow, they might help.

OP posts:
gettingbynotgettingby · 15/11/2020 00:23

Scabies. I had it decades ago at university and apparently the mites are active at night, hence the itching - with your arms and torso being key areas. Some cream from your GP will clear it up but it's a pain in the ass as you need to wash everything and apply the cream all over i.e. even between your toes. but you can get rid!

ramblingsonthego · 15/11/2020 08:47

I have had a couple of threads on the menopause board about this. I am being driven mad by itching that has last ed nearly 2 weeks now. The best antihistamine has been cetirizine but I am still itching. I have put it down to my HRT but reading on this thread maybe its just perimenopause for me. I am going for blood tests this week so I hope they find something that could help me as I am not sleeping properly at all.
