To not feel the least bit Christmassy?

I don't feel it at all. Not even a tiny thread of excitement. I'm not depressed, my family and I have made it through 2020 so far, though sadly losing two in-laws along the way.

I'm just plodding through the motions, I'm content enough but I just can't summon up any hint of enthusiasm yet people I know are getting excited about putting their decorations up already.

I'm so far behind with Christmas yet I just can't be bothered to do anything about it.

Anyone else?

LEELULUMPKIN · 14/11/2020 22:02

It's the 14th of November.

chipsandpeas · 14/11/2020 22:03

well its not christmas

Figgygal · 14/11/2020 22:03

It’s not Xmas so don’t worry too much
I bloody love Xmas at Xmas until then other than the practical present buying I’m a no Xmas zone until December 1st

helloxhristmas · 14/11/2020 22:04

I'm with you op. Can't get into this year and yes it's November but it should be something we can look forward to.

feellikeanalien · 14/11/2020 22:08

DD has insisted on putting the Christmas CD on in the car as they are practising at school for their Christmas Zoom performance.

Don't know if I can bear listening to it for the next 5 or 6 weeks Smile.

I don't feel remotely Christmassy.

Viv0321 · 14/11/2020 22:11

Everyone is putting their decs up early.

wowfudge · 14/11/2020 22:13

There's a way to go yet. I did see and hear some reindeer singing barbershop versions of Christmas songs today which made me laugh and cry.

I think it's because so many of the 'landmarks' are missing. There's been no Bonfire night - there won't be any carol concerts or nativity plays. No Christmas parties. It's just shelling out the usual £££ on shopping for presents and food and hoping the figures drop and that we can see our families without killing them! Not a great deal to feel excited about right now.
I want to feel it, keep trying to, but right now I just don't.

burglarbettybaby · 14/11/2020 22:14

I'm not usually a christmas fan at all. I love the dc getting their presents but other than that I'm not into it.

This year though I have put a few strings of Holly in vases. Bought outdoor lights etc. I am going to enjoy some cocktails and a nice Christmas break at home for sure.

EloiseTheFirst · 14/11/2020 22:16

As someone who is lying in bed in their Christmas bedding (put on the bed today) I have to disagree.

I don't normally start Christmas until Dec 1st but it's been such a shit year, I just wanted to cheer myself up.

🎄😁

whatswithtodaytoday · 14/11/2020 22:17

It's mid-November. There are no Christmas parties this year, the shops are shut, and a lot of people have lost their jobs or are on a reduced income. It's hardly surprising people don't feel Christmassy!

HeddaGarbled · 14/11/2020 22:17
Eckhart · 14/11/2020 22:17

It isn't Christmas. People didn't feel Christmassy in July either but nobody was dramatic enough to feel the need to post about it.

Meruem · 14/11/2020 22:20

Usually I feel no excitement about Christmas but for the first time in 7 years, myself and adult DC will be all together for Christmas (we are locked down together before anyone freaks out about rule breaking!) so that’s made it quite exciting for all of us. We have new board games, shopping slots all booked and already started preparing. Usually my decorations go up a week before but this time we’re doing them on the last Sunday in November. It’s been such a quiet year that the chance to do something “different” is welcomed. The planning and the days themselves will make a change from the groundhog days we have been living.

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 14/11/2020 22:20

For some reason I have felt quite festive already - dark nights in the city, zoom choir has started Christmas songs. But most years I don’t feel ‘Christmassy’ until a week or so into December and I never start shopping till December. It will be different this year but hopefully, partly in a good way...

Anoisagusaris · 14/11/2020 22:22

It’s mid November.

I’m with you Op, it’s fecking November and I’ve got two birthdays to get through first.
No idea why people want to start Christmas now, surely you’d be fucked bored by the 25th

cushioncovers · 14/11/2020 22:26

GrinGrin its November

Brighterthansunflowers · 14/11/2020 22:26

YANBU

I love Christmas usually but can’t summon up any excitement this year

It’s usually nice to have a few days off work at home on my own... this year I’ve been home on my own since bloody March (working from home). The novelty is long gone! I don’t normally travel to my mums for Christmas itself but I usually go in December but can’t this year, haven’t seen her since December last year Sad There’s usually festivities in the office, and at brownies to get me in the mood but none of that this year. Even the Christmas adverts are very clearly 2020 Christmas adverts.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 14/11/2020 22:29

Unsurprisingly. We're barely halfway through November. No one needs to have their 'decs' up. I know it's been a hard year, but really??!

DelphineWalsh · 14/11/2020 22:30

It doesn't feel like Easter either.

katy1213 · 14/11/2020 22:30

I can't understand why anybody over 10 needs to get excited right now.
That's a big % of the year getting worked up over a single day that has huge potential to disappoint.
