To not feel the least bit Christmassy?

I don't feel it at all. Not even a tiny thread of excitement. I'm not depressed, my family and I have made it through 2020 so far, though sadly losing two in-laws along the way.

I'm just plodding through the motions, I'm content enough but I just can't summon up any hint of enthusiasm yet people I know are getting excited about putting their decorations up already.

I'm so far behind with Christmas yet I just can't be bothered to do anything about it.

Anyone else?

I'm so excited for xmas this year!! - although I do love xmas it is usually quite stressful and expensive whereas this year my family has all agreed to buy each other one small inexpensive gift due to the lockdown etc and I am looking forward to just scoffing chocolates and watching xmas films without the worry!

All presents bought, theatre booked ( ever the optimist) and food cupboards well stocked.
I shall enjoy feeling Xmassy about December 15th when the tree is up.

Silverstripe · 14/11/2020 22:41

It’s way too early surely! I love Christmas a stupid amount but it’s only the middle of November!

DianaT1969 · 14/11/2020 22:55

It's November. We just had Fireworks Night.

DianaT1969 · 14/11/2020 22:56

MN isn't representative of the real world. There are lots of batshit people on the Christmas topic who start obsessing from March and post on every minute detail of what is a one day religious holiday.

yellowmaoampinball · 14/11/2020 23:02

How can you be behind with Christmas when it's the middle of November?

I mean, fair enough if people are early shoppers by choice, but unless you're Santa you have plenty of time to get organised.

I think all the early Christmas stuff this year has sent you a bit bonkers, honestly. I love Christmas but of course I'm not excited yet. We've only just had bonfire night and Halloween!

CandyflossKid · 14/11/2020 23:19

In my head, it's still March, when everything stopped. I can't even process that Christmas is less than 6 weeks away 😲

DappledThings · 14/11/2020 23:21

Next Sunday is Stir-Up Sunday. This is the first day I consider any consideration of Christmas to be reasonable. Although it does actually require some planning a couple of days prior to have the requisite ingredients for the aforementioned stirring.

NullcovoidNovember · 14/11/2020 23:23

I'm feeling extremely Christmassy op.
I've already started wrapping and I've nearly finished. Also this year I have a tiny bit more money to spend on a few people this year.
I'm really looking forward to the tree and Dec's and also one dd is getting easier to manage.

Harrykanesrightsock · 14/11/2020 23:24

Same as every year. It’s not on my radar until December. It’s just silly added pressure.

DinosApple · 14/11/2020 23:27

I'm not feeling Christmassy, after my late November birthday is usually the earliest I'll allow myself to start feeling it. Decs go up mid December and come down the Sunday before kids go back to school.

This year we're moving before Christmas too. I'm knackered to think about any of it!

38weekswithno2 · 14/11/2020 23:27

I never feel christmassy in November. I do Christmas shopping in October/ November to be organised but put them away and don't think about it again until December.
We go and choose our tree the first Saturday in December and decorate it and the house that weekend. That's when I start to feel Christmassy. We'll listen to some Christmas music while decorating then watch a film with hot chocolate / mulled wine / baileys or whatever later on.
We'll usually then have a couple of Christmas events for the next 2 Saturdays (markets, grottos etc) - obviously all be different this year.
I wouldn't want to start as early as November, I feel like Christmas would lose a bit of its magic.
I did see a local house the other day who had gone all out already with lights etc. Usually I'd be a bit judgy pants but it made me smile this year as I know they're probably doing it to cheer their kids up or something like that.

Emmelina · 14/11/2020 23:28

I feel you. 2020 has been nuts. The house is normally alive with hymns the kids are practicing for the Christmas service, the church packed to the rafters. We’ve usually picked out three courses for our work Christmas meal that won’t be happening this year. Our town council hasn’t started putting any lights up, or the tree. It’s all a bit rubbish.
I did buy my bodyweight in Lebkuchen the other day though, hope springs eternal that I’ll be able to spark a little festive feeling by stuffing my trap with it.

While I agree with this in principle, to be fair, it is a 12 day religious holiday. ;)
StormsDontLastForever · 14/11/2020 23:40

Me also, I have no Christmas spirit this year. If it wasn't for dd (6) I wouldn't even put my tree up this year! But she is extremely excited for Christmas time so I will obviously be doing my best to make it as nice as possible for her

BloggersBlog · 14/11/2020 23:45

At the beginning of Jan, will you be saying "I dont feel like it's Valentines at all" Hmm

It is nearly 6 ruddy weeks away
