Because this year my brain has turned to mush and Christmas seems like one big stress fest and I am desperate for some inspiration other than the normal smellies for mum and a Next jumper for dad!

I've given my adult dcs a list...Neom candle and diffuser, cashmere wristwarmers, some vinyl, particular gin, several books, backgammon set.

My mum is clueless as to what she would like as she's not been anywhere to get any ideas and doesn't do the internet. So far she's come up with books and chocolate. I've got her several books-all festive ones, lots of chocolate, fudge, a homemade Christmas Garland that I need to finish, a lantern that will be filled with narcissi, chocolate biscuits from M&S, and a bird table. At the beginning of advent I'm giving her some vintage Christmas knitwear, festive plates, festive towels and one of the books. The idea is that December will be brighter for wearing festive things, reading festive things and eating from festive plates. She's widowed and lives alone and is quite isolated so I want to make December special for her. The dc will make her some decorations for the tree. I might have to rein in ds with the glitter judging by what he's made so farGrin

Cordless drill for my dad, and a little hamper of his favourite things. Fitbit for mum with face cream, new pjs and chocolates.

Flexilight bookmarks, they come in different designs and have little torches on them to illuminate the books.

I was going to get my teetotal step dad some rhubarb and ginger alcohol free spirit I saw on Aldi's website but when I went in store they had changed the label to say low alcohol rather than 0% so it's not actually suitable. Might look for a fancy cordial instead, maybe M&S will have something.

Robson Green Northumberland DVD and some Only Fools and Horses ones (requested)

For MIL I have a cherry stoner and lemon zester that were both requested. Aldi do some lovely orange honeycomb which would suit her too.

Eco-wraps which are an alternative to cling film made with fabric and beeswax, they come in lovely patterns and appeal to MIL's kitchen gadget obsession and she is also quite into eco friendly stuff.

Still watching this thread for ideas!

Attempting to increase exercise & due to not going abroad

This year have bought year membership to zoo & National Trust

There have been times when they have been closed, but zoo has extended the years membership. The NT gardens are still open

I’m going to get my dad a leather bound edition of the Arabian nights and my mum some pressed flower gold plated earrings amongst other things

goose1964 · 15/11/2020 22:05

My dad is getting a very clever painting of a bird with a pebble as the body, my in-laws are getting some dvds of the early 20th century of the city they used to live in ,although it's likely that MiL won't be around by then😿

paddingtonbearsmarmalade · 15/11/2020 22:06

For my mum, I’ve got a handmade (beautiful) soap dish & nice soap, a voucher for a wool/knitting shop, a sock blocker (as requested), and then a couple of Schitt’s Creek fun things (tote bag & badge), orange Smarties (her fave) and a mindfulness sudoku book.

Dad is getting new bedding (he’s bad at buying that kind of thing for himself), a book - not picked it yet, Malteasers, nice socks, some jokey accountancy pencils, a frog shaped tea strainer (long standing family joke) and some loose tea to go with it.

For both, a mix of main/“tree” gifts and stocking fillers 🙂

Bbang · 15/11/2020 22:13

I got my mum a le creuset teapot and some lychee and rose tea, my dad I bought him vouchers for his favourite bike shop.

Pipandmum · 15/11/2020 22:13

My parents are dead but I have a mother in law (my husband has also passed away otherwise he would buy her a gift). She's late 80s and really doesn't need any more stuff - I've done the framed pic of grandkids, special artisan glassware, cheeseboard. So it will be a big bunch of Christmas flowers as last year.
