I just watched While You Were Sleeping, and I remember loving the romance between Sandra Bullock and Bill Pullman and wishing I could have someone like that. I also thought Bill Pullman was great in Independence Day. But then he played that paedophile in Torchwood so effectively that I just can't get that character out of my head now when I watch WYWS and that was one of my favourite romcoms

Laurence Fox for being a knob IRL. I also saw him in a theatre play and I didn’t think he was good in it either.

FastFood · 14/11/2020 12:01

@Janegrey333

Bill Pullman is a brilliant actor. That side eye thing he does is so clever. Or something!
And he's HOT. Proper grandad crush.
FastFood · 14/11/2020 12:07

Jude Law in Closer. I hated that film and that character.

Before that, I could have had "Jude's property" tatooed on my bum but after this film I was done forever. Soz Jude.

Otherwise I'm pretty tolerant, I even developped a crush on Patrick Wilson after watching Hard Candy (he's a peado in it) and on Jeremy Renner as Jeffrey Dahmer ¯\(ツ)/¯

Joseph Fiennes. After seeing him in Handmaid's Tale I just couldn't look at him in the same way. I know he is probably isn't a misogynistic rapist in real life but... It still gave me chills
Apparently Joseph Fiennes went to therapy himself after playing Commander Waterford as it was so traumatic.

Oh wow, I didn't know that! I heard that his wife has refused to watch any of it. I can't say that I blame her.

corythatwas · 14/11/2020 12:26

The reverse......... I really liked Hathaway in Lewis, but Lawrence Fox's rants have have ruined him for me.

So much this. Everybody's saying now what a crap actor he always was, but I thought he was very good in Lewis.

Have heard he hasn't been good in anything much since though, wondering if his anger issues & general sense of entitlement are getting in the way of his putting the work in.

Also wondering if one reason his agent took him off their books might be not just his political rants but that other actors are finding him increasingly hard to work with.

eddiemairswife · 14/11/2020 13:04

I suppose it must be difficult coming from an acting family, where the other members have or have had various roles, and you are stuck with being just one character.

Chocoqueen · 14/11/2020 13:14

Jodie Comer. I'm sure she's lovely in real life, and is a terrific actress but playing the OW in Dr Foster really put me off her. I preferred her character as Villanelle.

enjoyingthequiet · 14/11/2020 13:17

peeper - I couldn't watch 50 shades because of The Fall! So I'll take your word for it.

peepercountry · 14/11/2020 13:26

@enjoyingthequiet he's very wooden in it

peepercountry · 14/11/2020 13:26

& not in a good way!

Kevin Bacon after sleepers
I was going to say the same, he was so convincing at being that evil. Obviously he's just a very good actor but I've never quite trusted him since seeing it!
TooLittleTooLate80 · 14/11/2020 13:46

@Coldilox

I have been obsessed with Gillian Anderson for 26 years, since I was 13. And now she’s playing Margaret Thatcher. So wrong l!
I opened the thread just to post this. How could you do this to me, Agent Scully?!

I've never forgiven Robert Carlyle for murdering Christopher Ecclestone in Cracker. Must be 20 years ago!

Yes to this! I always associate him with that role.

Jeff Bridges after watching The Vanishing too.

That episode was one of the best things I ever saw on TV, so chilling, whenever I hear 'Liverpool FC' I still get goosebumps. I've never associate actors with the roles they play though it's clear that some will only play a certain type. Apparently in American films baddies are often played by British or Canadian actors because so many American actors refuse to be associated with a character.
OlympicProcrastinator · 14/11/2020 14:08

Yeah I second Tom Hardy and his infected face full of sores in peaky blinders.

And Kevin Bacon who was quite nice back in the day. Then he played a peodophile in The Woodman and things were never the same.

Janegrey333 · 14/11/2020 14:15

@peepercountry

Jamie Dornan - The Fall. Totally realistically creepy.

He's much sexier in that then he is in 50 shades.

Excellent performance and very scary. (But so gorgeous.)

Didn’t see the 50 Shades one.

NastyBlouse · 14/11/2020 14:20

@SimonJT

Not stopped liking the actor, but The Deep in The Boys is incredibly attractive, so yeah, thats now problematic.
He is though, isn't he. It's the arms. Blush
amusedbush · 14/11/2020 14:59

I fancy the pants off Gillian Anderson and I’m having a hard time with her playing Thatcher Grin

Mine is Matthew Morrison from Glee. I LOVED him in that role and he seemed so lovely and charming in interviews. Then in Grey’s Anatomy he played a truly horrible man who is physically and emotionally abusive towards women so convincingly that I can barely look at him!

CoronaIsShit · 14/11/2020 15:10

Andrew McCarthy in The Family just now. I hadn’t seen him in anything for years so was shocked he was playing such an unlikeable character and playing it so well (although I’m on his side more than the family’s because they are even more unlikable except for Adam).

SimonJT · 14/11/2020 15:33

@NastyBlouse If you have anyone ‘available’ you can purchase the outfit

Crumpetstoday · 14/11/2020 15:42

Tommy Flanagan in Peaky Blinders, played the boys evil evil dad. It ruined the last couple of seasons of Sons of Anarchy for me, couldn’t look at Chibs in the same way.

Came on to say this too!
CandidaAlbicans2 · 14/11/2020 16:09

Not a "gone off since a particular role" actor, but I went right off Idris Elba after seeing him interviewed. He was saying how he couldn't understand how he's been labelled a sex symbol then proceeded to flirt embarrassingly with the women in the audience. Something alluding to the size of his cock. I cringed for him and stopped fancying him from that day on as he seemed rather cocky and full of himself.
