Toilet will not unblock. Have tried pretty much everything.

Posting here for traffic.
My toilet has been blocked for a week now.

I'm not sure if I blocked it, or if it was the people in the apartment upstairs.
If it was me who blocked it, then it was some toilet roll and poo. Nothing abnormal.
No-one else lives here.

The toilet bowl takes hours to drain.
And then if more water is added, the toilet bowl merely fills all the way back up again.
Then it takes another 6 hours or more to fully drain.
I'm at my wits end.

I have tried:
A plunger
Hot water and washing up liquid
Vinegar and baking soda
A wire hanger.

Nothing works.
I'm skint and can't afford a plumber.

Mop head

Squiffany · 14/11/2020 10:15

Is it the type of sewage system where you can’t put toilet paper in?

Runningoutofnamestochange · 14/11/2020 10:22

@LilacPebbles

Empty a full bottle of washing up liquid down the loo, boil a kettle full of water and as soon as it's boiled, pour it down. You may need another kettle full of water, but this has worked every time here
Boiling water can crack toilets and damage plastic pipes.

Op if it’s been blocked a week how have you been managing?

leopardspotsdotdotdot · 14/11/2020 10:22

Have you tried flushing, and jamming the lever in the cistern, do it doesn’t refill. Then once it’s drained, pour in boiling water, not just hot? Then wangle with a coat hanger.

sashagabadon · 14/11/2020 10:26

I’d say that is freeholder responsibility if you have done everything and pretty sure it’s not you. Maybe talk with neighbours as if they too have the problem that backs up your argument.

Oldraver · 14/11/2020 10:28

Didn't we have the same thread last week ?

Waveysnail · 14/11/2020 10:31

Should u have been putting toilet paper down the toilet if your in Asia?

Mummylin · 14/11/2020 10:37

We had a blockage which was caused by a plastic freshener that hangs on the rim of the toilet, it fell off and caused an awful blockage. I can't remember exactly what the plumber did, but he did have a mirror so he could see, but I don't remember how he emptied the loo of water first.
Couple of thick black sacks round arms and wire coat hanger may do it.

LillianGish · 14/11/2020 10:39

Google the plastic bag on the mop head- this works every time. No need to buy an expensive plunger.

LilacPebbles · 14/11/2020 10:39

Running. Just boiled. I'm sharing what works for us. And it really does work. The washing up liquid is key though

Whydidimarryhim · 14/11/2020 10:39

Mop head worked for me. Look on utube.

cantstopthefeeling · 14/11/2020 10:49

Yep another one for mop and plastic bag, you have to persistently plunge with it but it has worked twice for me easily.

RuedeRoberval · 14/11/2020 10:50

Are you sure in an Asian country such as South Korea?

You’re not meant to flush toilet paper, and the pipe work can be a smaller bore than in the UK and block more easily.

ThePluckOfTheCoward · 14/11/2020 10:52

Just contact the letting agents or management company to sort out and also check if you are supposed to be using toilet paper.

RuedeRoberval · 14/11/2020 10:53

Living not sure

Gosh09 · 14/11/2020 10:53

Try contacting your water company.
It shouldn`t cost you anything.

MissisBoote · 14/11/2020 10:56

The last time our toilet blocked my dh bought ones of these.

It's bloody brilliant. Much easier than manually plunging.

Hope you get yours sorted asap

kittykarate · 14/11/2020 11:01

I used a drain snake last time our toilet blocked beyond the help of plungers and clog busting liquids. Something like this

Hailtomyteeth · 14/11/2020 11:04

This worked for me last week.
Take one two-litre bottle of coca cola. Pour it all into the toilet. Leave for two hours. Flush. Problem solved.

Longtalljosie · 14/11/2020 11:05

Enzymatic loo cleaner. The enzymes eat away at the blockage. Once clear, keep putting it down once a fortnight for maintenance.

MiraWard77 · 14/11/2020 11:05

@OutingMyselfAgain

Seconding this. We've used one called Luigi

Luigi's - The World's Best Toilet Plunger: Big, Bad & Powerful. Clears and Unblocks all Toilets With Unique Bellows Design (Updated 2018) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01HBS1PAC/ref=cmswwrcppapifabcczN7RFbX1BNQ8C?encoding=UTF8&psc=1

RamblingFar · 14/11/2020 11:07

If you're in Asia then it may well be the toilet paper that's blocked it. Do the toilets at work have paper or water for wiping? Have you been anywhere touristy, did they have toilet paper bins?

FortunesFave · 14/11/2020 11:09

Why hasn't OP responded to any of the suggestions? Confused they're merely repeating the issues! What about the clingfilm or mop solutions!?

ClarasZoo · 14/11/2020 11:10

Get a bit of bendy wire and see if it goes around the u bend. If not bag up and get you hand in as far as you can to pull out the block. If you can get a wire round it’s probably a problem with the drain if the block, not you!!

chocolatespiders · 14/11/2020 11:12

Bucket of water poured in from a height to force anything stuck through.
