Dh things my DSS are to old for a Christmas Eve box?
They are like my big helpful baby's their 20 and 17, one DSs has been staying with his mum past few weeks and the other with his GF but both said they want to be here over Xmas and want their Xmas Eve box's like the kids (my youngest 3)
I'm so glad they want to be here over Xmas and I love the fact they will always want the box's no matter. How old they get lol dh says their to old, but your never to old right ??
Also any ideas what to add in them
Going to do one big box save getting 5, all new pjs, mugs, books, bath bombs and some goodies an then teddy's (yes they love them to) 🤣

I’d never even heard of a Christmas Eve box until recently! I don’t do them there’s enough stress with buying presents for actual Christmas Day. I may be the grinch.

There's nothing Grinchy about not doing them, it's just so ridiculous how some people get in such a moralistic outrage about them, as if doing them literally makes you a Bad Human. In the last thread, which maxed out at 1000 posts, we got people using the angry red-faced emoji while calling boxers "sad bastards", they were accused of creating piles of landfill and destroying the planet (because the rest of Christmas and indeed modern life is so waste-free and reusable film night boxes are what are causing climate change), they were "fucking cruel" because some families can't afford them, they were the absolute worst of mindless capitalism, it was excessively wasteful because children outgrow pyjamas and probably don't wear winter ones in July, that they "ruined Christmas" by destroying all sense of anticipation (yeah, film and some chocolate, you're right, job's fucked) and on and on and on about how unnecessary and extravagant they are, as if the average person spends Christmas eating twigs and canal water by the warmth of a tea light.

It's worth remembering that these are basically family film night boxes plus pyjamas. Once a year. There's certainly a conversation to be had about waste and environmental impact and so on, but are these things really what we should be worried about?

@Ted27 I agree! Nothing pricey just a little box with a few goodies to make our night extra magical and cosy! They also get sent a present from Santa (same one every year just re wrap it) a little tray and milk jug for his goodies to!
I'm such a big kid at heart I just like to make it magical as much as I can because before I know it they will know it isn't real and then it isn't the same ! Got us a board game today and some Christmas cups for our Xmas Eve night
Watch a film off Netflix too!
Only reason we get new cups every year is because they like to use them all year round same as their pjs so they don't last forever !!
Super exited now lol

That’s exactly what ds1 (20 at the time) wrote in last year’s Christmas card 😀

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 13/11/2020 18:54

Well

It was thanking me for making it magical

spidermomma · 13/11/2020 19:10

@RufustheSniggeringReindeer isn't that what every parent wants for their kids regardless of their age? Just to make it magical and special. Specially after this super shitty year we've had ! X

I think that’s very sweet, OP. You’ve obviously made a very happy home for them.

DH is wrong- do them an individual box each.

We don’t do them in our house- stockings and presents are for Christmas Day- but if you do do this then I see no reason to end it for your older DSS’s! It’s nice to be included.

Abso-bloody-lutely 😀

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 13/11/2020 19:22

Though it was funny...

Last Christmas eve ds1 and boyfriend had our traditional short before bed (aka running round like headless chickens getting the presents out and under the tree) with us

Ds1 did not enjoy adulting that night 😀 he wanted to be sent to bed early so christmas could come quicker

Hugosmugo · 13/11/2020 19:24

I totally still would! I'm 27 and I still love some of the little touches at Christmas time. Admittedly I havent had a stocking since I was a child, but we still all sit in the same spots and open presents together.

My only hope this year is to actually be allowed to be with family. We will be from 3 households so may not be allowed.

spidermomma · 13/11/2020 21:36

@RufustheSniggeringReindeer hahaha exactly! Forever going to want to be a kid so that part is missed 🤣

@Hugosmugo aww I really hope you can. Not nice or even worth thinking about been desperate at Christmas, so sad!

My children (early 20s) never had Christmas Eve boxes when they were little and don't get them now either.

They still hang up their stockings by the fireplace though.
