Dh things my DSS are to old for a Christmas Eve box?
They are like my big helpful baby's their 20 and 17, one DSs has been staying with his mum past few weeks and the other with his GF but both said they want to be here over Xmas and want their Xmas Eve box's like the kids (my youngest 3)
I'm so glad they want to be here over Xmas and I love the fact they will always want the box's no matter. How old they get lol dh says their to old, but your never to old right ??
Also any ideas what to add in them
Going to do one big box save getting 5, all new pjs, mugs, books, bath bombs and some goodies an then teddy's (yes they love them to) 🤣

They are not your babies! One is an adult and the other not far off it. If you want to get them something, give them some PJs and a four pack of beer. But not in a box, wrap the PJs maybe, but they need to be treated as their age.

@autumnkate

Am I reading this right?

A 20 year old man wants a Christmas teddy?

My 43yo DH loves his teddy and would be thrilled to get one at Christmas

Problem?

How miserable can you get?

They WANT the box.

And of course your kids are always your babies. My DS17 is 6'2" and built like a rugby player and can pick me up....he's still my baby boy!!

Macncheeseballs · 12/11/2020 22:36

Never heard of a Christmas eve box?!

iliketobecosy · 12/11/2020 22:37

I'm 26 and get a Christmas box from my parents (my mum puts it together) I love it, it's always one of my favourite things to receive. It has my usual makeup bits, moisturiser, cleanser, hair care, maybe a new gel colour etc.

inappropriateraspberry · 12/11/2020 22:37

@00100001 But they never were her babies, they're her stepchildren! I'm all for Xmas stockings etc but I think a box could be done in a more age appropriate way. Teddies and hot chocolate?

iliketobecosy · 12/11/2020 22:38

Oops should of said it's not a Christmas Eve box, I've never had one of those, I receive it on Christmas.

Do you get a stocking as well? Those contents sound more like a Xmas stocking to me.
inappropriateraspberry · 12/11/2020 22:40

Crossposted! More like a stocking then.

isadorapolly · 12/11/2020 22:40

@autumnkate I think it’s odd too Wink

Ginfordinner · 12/11/2020 22:41

We have never done Christmas Eve boxes. I didn't even know they were a thing until I joined mumsnet.

I still do DD a stocking, even though she is 20 Grin

Happylittlethoughts · 12/11/2020 22:44

Face / eye/foot mask,

Nail varnish
Hot choc or canned cocktail or beer
Scrunchies
Cosy socks
Magaxine/book/dvd

Isitrainingihadntnoticed · 12/11/2020 22:45

No I don't get a stocking, but yes similar type of thing.
Sunbird24 · 12/11/2020 22:49

Would never be able to do Christmas Eve boxes in my family as it’s one person’s birthday. Would be even more rubbish if everyone else got presents as well!

Holothane · 12/11/2020 22:49

Well I’ve gone a bit daft with hot chocolate and chocolate spoons dh encouraged me no encouragement needed I’m doing all the little thing I never had growing up, dhs doing stocking sack filled if I know him with chocolate.

1Morewineplease · 12/11/2020 22:50

This sounds like a new, made up phenomena.
Why would you struggle to afford/collate a box of gifts, the night before your child gets too many gifts anyway?
Is this related to Some cultures that open their presents on Christmas Eve instead of Christmas Day ?
The new Trick or Treat

TheDowagerDuchess · 12/11/2020 22:50

No one is too old for presents!

Why is your DH so miserable? They are his kids by the sound of it.

ChronicallyCurious · 12/11/2020 22:50

No they’re not! Me and DP are 23 & 24 and we do each other Christmas Eve boxes (at my insistence 😂) because it’s fun and not hurting anyone! So far I’ve got him some Christmas pyjamas, fuzzy socks, microwave popcorn, hot chocolate, sweets and a film. We keep it themed for the day though so everything can be used on Christmas Eve and isn’t actually classed as a Christmas present.

ShebaShimmyShake · 12/11/2020 22:55

Ooh, the next Christmas Eve box thread. Marking my place.

augustusglupe · 12/11/2020 22:57

My DD is 31 and I always gave her a Christmas Eve present. Its like everyone's caught on and now they're boxes!! I think a gesture is lovely on Christmas Eve, but no more than that.

FloraFlamingo · 12/11/2020 23:01

I do ones for my 22 year old and 13 year old. They get exactly the same and this year it's ....

A kilo jar of Percys pigs each
A tin of Percy biscuits each
Pyjamas in each
Tin of magnetic putty in each
Set of hotel chocolat salted caramel hot choc in each (we have the Velvetiser already)
Tin of Pringles
An oodie in each

And this year they're in giant Percy pig bags

I couldn't give a stuff if some randomer on mumsnet doesn't approve. You do you and I'll do me Smile

Ridikulusness · 12/11/2020 23:03

@cardibach

I’m surprised that at 20 he ever had a Christmas Eve box as a child. My DD is 24 and it wasn’t a thing when she was small - or for some time after. Christmas stockings - no, never too old. Christmas Eve boxes? Don’t get them at all, to be honest.
My oldest dc is now mid 20’s and has ALWAYS had a Christmas Eve present under the tree from us. Everything else came from Santa (controversial I know!) It always contains new pj’s and age appropriate toiletries/smellies. I’ve done exactly the same for all of my children since the 90’s I’ve just never called it a ‘Christmas Eve Box’.
LindaEllen · 12/11/2020 23:05

I won't lie, I'd bloody love a Christmas Eve box with PJs, hot chocolate, sweets and a Christmas film .. and I'm 30!

BreastedBoobilyToTheStairs · 12/11/2020 23:06

I'm late twenties and still get my Christmas Eve box with pjs/fuzzy socks, hot chocolate, mulled wine, and what we call 'Christmas Eve books' like Where's Wally, a book of riddles or the Ladybird books for adults. The physical box is a relatively new addition though, they just used to be wrapped presents when I was growing up. Half of my pj drawer is filled with reindeer and snowmen thanks to Christmas Eve Grin

Dp had never had one growing up so my mum made bought him one to match mine for the first Christmas we spent with them and he always looks forward to it now.

It's a bit of fun that brings my mum joy to arrange and us joy to open. If she wanted to stop that would be absolutely fine, but considering last year our hot chocolates came in mugs that she had hand decorated with ceramic pens for each of us, I'm guessing she still finds fun in it. Why the hell should she feel bad for enjoying something so harmless?

But not in a box, wrap the PJs maybe, but they need to be treated as their age.

Bah humbug.
