"A committee of MPs and peers has been set up to choose a gift "fit" for the Queen to mark the 70th anniversary of her accession, in 2022.
Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden said it would be a "token of our respect". For her Diamond Jubilee in 2012, the Queen had a stained-glass window created for her in Westminster Hall."

The Queen has everything she could possibly need, and the money to buy anything she could want.

This gift will be funded by donations from MPs - of course, it's up to them how they want to spend their money - but at a time when so many of her subjects are struggling financially due to the impact of Covid19, I think it would be appropriate for the Queen to ask the MPs to make a donation to a UK charity instead of spending the money on a Platinum Jubilee gift.

And your missing the point they are bailing it out because its not earning enough profit.

You don't bail out just because your profit is down

Do you think you'd be haply to pay to bail out my investments because I'm jot making enough profit like I did last year?

It doesn't matter what revenue it brings it.

This is about bailing out something that is still making a profit but not as much as it did last year.

So what of there profit is only 10% instead of 50%...that doesn't justify being bailed out

The Crown Estate fund all repairs to the coastlines that are not in private hands, they have had no income this year, but they still need fixing

“Unputdownable
*Every pro-royalist argument is neatly demolished. It shows us what the monarchy really is about: free-loaders; parasites; freebie holidays lovers; hypocrites of the highest order, including the Queen, who by the way has shares in Brighthouse; a firm that exploits the poor in society; the myth that they bring in 'loads of money' proves to be just that, a myth peddled by the Firm.

In fact the annual third of a billion pounds allocated to them (not including security costs which are kept secret-why is that?!) should be rerouted to the ailing NHS, not to the Queen, who is fabuously wealthy. Even their wills remain secret (again-why?)
As head of state she is useless. The institution is undemocratic and riddled with corruption. How can one respect such a family?
They have no place in 21th century Britain!”*

That is just one review from the book What do you do....What the royal family don’t want you to know”

All monarchists should read this book, maybe then you’d realise how we’re all being mugged off.

Maybe we’re quite happy paying our £1.70 a year and getting “mugged off”? There are many, many things my tax pays for that I’m much unhappier about.

Isn’t it strange how the money payed to the royals through our taxes is broken down that way. Nothing else is minimalized in the same way. But hey let’s keep throwing more and more at one of the wealthiest families in Britain Some of us would rather it go on something worthwhile.

We do when it's the RF Hmm

According to this, if they've got it right, they're short on tourist revenue too: www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-news/queen-set-lose-35-million-18994819 To be fair it says they won't be seeking a bailout this time, but I wonder how long that'll last?

And yes, "What do you do....What the royal family don’t want you to know” is indeed an excellent read. Properly sourced too, with detail of where the figures come from instead of just baseless accusations

Puzzledandpissedoff · 16/11/2020 15:25

Nothing else is minimalized in the same way ...

I wouldn't say nothing else exactly, but it's true they're masters of it - and people suck it up so readily Sad

Worrying too that so much is conveniently left out ... costs passed on to government departments, security and on and on

Love all of this (you've saved me arguing the same thing, and I would've done so in a far less articulate way with more ranting).

Royalists confuse me, especially socialist royalists. I come from a working class socialist background and my Grandparents loved them. It's worshipping at the alter of something that keeps you down.

Watching The Crown makes me realise how utterly pointless they are, it's all pomp and ceremony. No place in modern life. I respect The Queen for 'serving' her life to the 'role' when she didn't want it, she had a sense of duty and work ethic, but the concept itself of a Monarchy baffles me.
