Pooh is the bear- Winnie the Pooh.

Poo is shit.

When I was a child, it was always 'biz', as in business.

Oh wow, there's someone else in the world that knows of "biz!" I wonder if we're related! My dad grew up calling it a "biz" and so did we as kids, but I've never come across it anywhere else. In our family it was used exactly the same as "poo" - "I need a biz," "there's some cat's biz on the path," etc, etc. I ended up using "poo" with my own DC because I wanted them to use a word everyone could understand, but I still have a soft spot for "biz."

My MIL used to say "busy busy" to her dog when she wanted her to do a wee! I found this very confusing at first.

olderthanyouthink · 11/11/2020 22:34

@MsFenellaFielding adults calling a toilet the potty does my head in, that along with panties creeps me out because it's infantilising everything.

Fleetwoodmacs · 11/11/2020 22:35

Couldn't agree more! Pooh is the bear or the sticks.

I'm not overly fond of the world poo either if I'm honest, but I have a toddler so needs must.

bluebluezoo · 11/11/2020 22:39

“Potty shot” for gender reveal scans.

Especially don’t like them posted on open internet. I know it’s not the same but your basically posting a picture of your baby’s spread eagled legs and inviting randoms to inspect it’s genitals.

Just seems wrong to me.

GottenGottenGotten · 11/11/2020 22:41

I hate gotten as well. Why is everyone suddenly using it?

I'm not suddenly using it. I've been using it for approximately 47 years, give or take. It's a, standard English word that has been used in all my memory in my corner of the UK.

Do you have a similar issue with 'forgotten'?

Luaanna · 11/11/2020 22:48

Oh god I hate bottom burp. I went to a catholic school and the nuns would tell you off if you used the word poo, burp or fart. Bottom burp and relaxing our bowels was allowed

Luaanna · 11/11/2020 22:50

My family always referred to it as a no 2 😂

Greenhairbrush · 11/11/2020 22:50

Oh my god! Yes! Yanbu!

ViciousJackdaw · 11/11/2020 22:51

Scouser of Irish descent here. Poo for the children and in polite, civilised adult company, it's shite and it occurs in the shithouse.

ViciousJackdaw · 11/11/2020 22:51

@Luaanna

My family always referred to it as a no 2 😂
I used to call it an Embassy No. 2 when I was a smoker
TinyGhost · 11/11/2020 22:52

Poo in public, jobby or shit at home

NeonGenesis · 11/11/2020 22:53

It's a "steaming pile of crap" or it's not even worth mentioning.

feliciabirthgiver · 11/11/2020 22:55

Yes I keep seeing this - why has this become so common??

ladybee28 · 11/11/2020 23:00

@FoxtrotSkarloey

I've missed this completely. People purposely use pooh instead of poo? Why? Weirdos.

But if anyone has better terminology for bogey and fart, that would be helpful! Not looking to be cute, but now my two year old can talk, him telling the world 'Mummy farted' is not ideal.

@FoxtrotSkarloey in our house a fart is a toot.

Not to everyone's taste, but definitely friendlier than a fart.

ShortSilence · 11/11/2020 23:01

I have nothing to add except that this is exactly the kind of thread I needed after a long evening of brain-numbing work Brew

Clawdy · 11/11/2020 23:03

Someone upthread said "biz" and that's what we said when I was little. Then when I started working in a school the children there called it "doo-doos". My friend always called it doing a "mo" which was short for " motion"!

Newmumatlast · 11/11/2020 23:03

So when I was younger I was always taught it was pooh. Everyone I knew spelled it that way. I only ever saw the poo spelling as an adult - mainly around emojis. I genuinely thought maybe poo was the more American spelling. I am now wondering why I never knew this but then again I don't ever write about pooh/poo as an adult!

ChocolateCherrybomb · 11/11/2020 23:07

"Relaxing our bowels"

Huh, lol, surely that is actually shitting.

ArtieFufkinPolymerRecords · 11/11/2020 23:10

This reminds me of someone I used to work with who when their children were small used the term "bottom burp" instead of trump. It just sounds worse than trump, it makes me feel ill

I think you mean she used "bottom burp" instead of fart.

NeonGenesis · 11/11/2020 23:12

My nan went to a Nun school and also used "bottom burp"... I did wonder where it came from. Sounds so much more disgusting and graphic than fart.

JovialNickname · 11/11/2020 23:13

"Pooh" is to dismiss; as in to pooh-pooh someone; see also "oh pooh" as a response to somebody that has said something of little consequence.

Poo is the brown stinky stuff.

scrivette · 11/11/2020 23:13

My Nana used to call it a 'Big Job'. I used that today in front of the DC and they fell about laughing.

It's poo in this house and 'pops' for farts as my parents used to dislike the word fart and we were told not to say it and it appears to have stuck with me.

ArtieFufkinPolymerRecords · 11/11/2020 23:15

Fart is perfectly acceptable, but if you don't want it used in that way, you need to teach him not to tell everyone when you've farted, or stop farting around him.
MardiBras · 11/11/2020 23:17

When I was at school it was big job or jobby
.
My parents would say no.2 as they couldn’t bring themselves to say anything they considered vulgar.

Pooh is a much loved bear.

Don’t get me started on ‘go potty’. I’m on a Facebook page about Labrador dogs whose American owners often ask about puppy training and taking them outside for toilet training.
The term drives me insane.

CharitySchmarity · 11/11/2020 23:18

I genuinely thought maybe poo was the more American spelling.

I think it's always "poop" in America!
