Please!!!

Aware it might not be an aibu, but I am at my wits end!

Have had this rash since the day after I gave birth ( 6.5 months ) ago. Nothing in first pregnancy or during second but this came day after and is gradually getting worse and worse , now 4 months pregnant ( was DEFINITELY not planned) having been waiting for a dermatologist appointment since August and have to wait two more months!
It's itchy, sore , bleeds . I've tried zeroderm, centroban, sudocream, wearing gloves to wash up.. nothing works .
Anyone?

Try cutting out wheat or dairy for a few days. I have a friend with something like this who was cured by a gluten free diet. I'm not a health professional but I'd be tempted to try, just to see.

AisleAltarHymn · 11/11/2020 19:50

It looks like pompholyx exzema. I had this after DC and apparently a big trauma (like giving birth) can trigger a gene that makes this happen. I ended up getting fucidic acid cream (Fucibet) that made it sting but cleared it up really quickly and I’ve never suffered since. I also had allergy testing and found out I was allergic to nickel.

Hope you get it sorted OP, I feel your pain!

berryhead2013 · 11/11/2020 19:52

Ouch that looks sore looks like it may need a steroid cream can you go to your pharmacy I think you can buy 1% hydrocortisone over the counter
Put a moisturiser in first then the steroid and get a pair of cotton gloves for overnight

CountFosco · 11/11/2020 19:54

Youcan get 1% hydrocortisone over the counter but only try it for a week at most. You can also get emollients OTC to try and keep it under control.

If you want to try cutting out foodgroups then you need to do it for four weeks and you need to cut out one thing at a time (so 4 weeks gluten free then 4 weeks dairy free).

It could be an allergic reaction. Change to a non-bio washing powder, give your house a regular good clean and air to reduce housemites.

JaJaDingDong · 11/11/2020 20:03

Is it just one hand? Or both?

TripleSeptic · 11/11/2020 20:19

I had that, we never got to the bottom of what it was. Dettol multisurface cleaner REALLY aggravated it. I used every steroid under the sun, different creams, lotions, potions, slept with gloves on. It cleared up when we moved house when child was 3. There was chat of it being an autoimmune response to the pregnancy, stress, all sorts. I don't know if the house move meant less stress, better area, or if it was the bigger kitchen and dishwasher gave my skin a rest, or if I grew out of it. It was wild, you have my sympathy.

Mrswhirley · 11/11/2020 20:28

Agree with @AisleAltarHymn, looks like pompholyx. I also suffer with this although not had an episode for some time, the itching is unbearable!

SewingWarriorQueen76 · 11/11/2020 20:36

Disohydric eczema. It itches like nothing, antihistamines help, as well as Eumovate. Use shower gel with moisturiser and I now wash my feet with Oilatum. In the summer mine was so bad I could not sleep.

PurpleFlower1983 · 11/11/2020 20:40

It looks like pompholyx ecsema. Did it start off with little blisters?

PurpleFlower1983 · 11/11/2020 20:41

*eczema

PurpleFlower1983 · 11/11/2020 20:42

@SewingWarriorQueen76 Same thing, different name as what I said. My husband suffers with it too, I sympathise, it’s awful.

Cloud21 · 11/11/2020 20:43

Ditto what @AisleAltarHymn @SewingWarriorQueen76 @Mrswhirley all said.

I get it on my feet due to an autoimmune condition and use a steroid cream.

ParadiseLaundry · 11/11/2020 20:44

It looks like a nappy rash DS had once. Maybe a fungal type thing? The dr prescribed Timodine (an anti fungal hydrocortisone type thing?) it cleared in a few days.

guessmyusername · 11/11/2020 20:45

I get that and it was diagnosed as contact dermatitis. I've had it since I was a child. It looks just like that raised sore spots. I only get it on my hands. I am allergic to certain washing powders like Ariel and washing up liquid. The Dr gave me a hydrocortisone cream but I never found it very good. After the really sore phase it goes very dry and I use a moisturizing hand cream. The thing I find most helpful is an antihistamine that you can get over the counter (although I would take advice on that as you are pregnant). Interestingly I never got it when I was pregnant

Oinkypig · 11/11/2020 20:47

It could also be palmoplantar psoriasis, do you get little fluid filled blisters that then go to flaky brown discs?

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 11/11/2020 20:47

I had a rash that started when I was pregnant with DD, 10 years ago. It was itchy and red, with tiny blisters, then it started oozing and getting crusty. My GP prescribed Fucibet, which cleared it up in a few days. It came back though, and at this stage the GP just prescribes my a big tube of Fucibet every year or so and I have to use it for a few days every two or three weeks. I find keeping my hands well moisturised and as dry as possible seems to help.

celebrityskin · 11/11/2020 20:50

Looks like contact dermatitis. You need a decent steroid cream for that. I doubt weak hydrocortisone over the counter would be enough. Speak to you GP about getting a prescription

busybusybusymummy · 11/11/2020 20:53

@CountFosco steroid cream made it spread Confused

busybusybusymummy · 11/11/2020 20:54

busybusybusymummy · 11/11/2020 20:57

@PurpleFlower1983 yes during a flare up though it became really really painful

@Oinkypig yes blisters but usually go very red instead of brown

FudgeSundae · 11/11/2020 21:00

This is 100% eczema. I get it on my hands and feet too. Docs often don’t recognise because hands and feet are a sweaty area and it doesn’t look like a dry rash (I got misdiagnosed with athlete’s foot for about 5 years before they figured it out).

Mine comes and goes but you can get strong prescription cream which helps. Try to limit hands in water (not easy at the moment with handwashing) and hand sanitiser doesn’t help much either.

itsgettingweird · 11/11/2020 21:15

Dischorric (sp?) dermatitis.

It itches like fuck! Try cetirizine antihistamines and also soaking hands in Dead Sea salt.

I discovered the dead salt after one severe flare up one year that healed when I went on holiday and was swimming in sea everyday!

Nannewnannew · 11/11/2020 21:22

I think it’s Palmer erythema which appears during early stages of pregnancy and disappears after baby is born. Just a fluke of pregnancy.

EarringsandLipstick · 11/11/2020 21:49

I would say eczema too, I suffered from this for many years.

Now OP that's infected - your poor hands 😱 you need to go back to your GP, you'll need an antibiotic first, then steroid after.

You can't use a steroid cream while it's infected - that's probably what made it worse the last time.
