To think Adam Buxton (and his podcast) is pretty great?

I love his podcast, I always save it for when I'm feeling a little down and it never fails to cheer me up or make me feel a little less alone. I love his honesty and the humour. The episodes with his old friends Joe Cornish and/or Louix Theroux are side splittingly funny as are Adam's various songs and jingles. I also really enjoyed his Ramble Book and Bug when it was on. Funnily enough I've never seen an episode of the Adam and Joe show even though I was a student when it was on TV, it passed me by somehow.

Yes I really like him. It makes me laugh but I also think he’s a really affable interviewer and seems to have a nice, relaxed bond with his subjects so they are more happy to chat. Love the Kathy Burke ones, she has some fab stories.

I also admire his openness and vulnerability, he was very candid when his dad died (and more recently his mum). But it never feels contrived or that he’s doing it to boost ratings.

@Puppylucky god I so disagree with you on the RW episode. Robbie was so desperate to try and be seen as credible. Which he may well be but he’s so massively groomed by his PR team over the years he just sounds like a wanker.

They are a bit hit & miss, I listen to them now and again depending on the guest. There are so many podcasts these days, I felt a bit sorry for Adam when Louis knocked out a series for lockdown and got higher profile guests and more listeners.

I absolutely love it, but then I was a fan of the Adam and Joe show back in the day. His audio book was most enjoyable too, made the most of a free audible trial to listen to that.

spiceplum · 11/11/2020 21:29

@Baggingarea No but it did cross my mind that people would think I was lol!

@Swingbin I listened to the Louis podcasts as well and they were good but I do prefer Adam's show. I think they are pretty different, Louis is more of an interviewer and he is quite guarded where as Adam's show is more of a conversation where I think his willingness to be candid helps open up the other person. Louis does open up on the Adams podcast though when he is a guest which is great as he doesn't do it very often! I haven't read LT's book yet which I gather is more open as well.

Adore him, loved him since the Channel 4 show days. I have a DVD 'best of' of The Adam &Joe Show, I need to watch it again to see how well it's aged. There was nothing quite like it at the time.

If you haven't listened to them already, he's really great on his multiple appearances on Richard Herrings' podcast RHLSTP

Another big fan here too, pretty much the only podcast I regularly listen to. Like a tonic for the soul!
But I agree with the previous poster regarding the Robbie Williams one; it was boring but I’m not sure AB could have done much about that. I don’t think RW has much to offer!

Wanted to resurrect this thread to see if anyone’s listened to his Christmas Day episode yet. I only got halfway through while doing the dinner but was crying laughing at several points. Can’t be alone!

PishFood · 26/12/2020 13:07

I listened whilst peeling the spuds. Loved that he was 49th top podcaster, where did that come from?? Agree that someone was taking the piss.

BraveBananaBadge · 26/12/2020 18:50

Joe’s song about his weird dreams just finished me off. And realising The Staves were singing the whole of the “maybe you shouldn’t be living here” dialogue in that second number 😂

LadyJaye · 26/12/2020 19:00

Love Dr Buckles, or Adam Buxom, as my OH insists on calling him.

Listened to his latest while doing the Christmas Day washing up today and we were both crying laughing listening to the '49th?' jingle. Grin

You’re not alone. I loved Adam and Joe Show ( I even have the book) and used to listen to them on XFM and bbc6. My favourite was Dr Spankles Hollywood Waxorama when they set up a budget Madam Tussauds and opened to the public. I also remember their breakdown of R Kelly’s In the Closet on XFM podcast ( I think) and embarrassing celebrity encounters. He seems like a lovely man also.
