My child has covid 19

Posting here as thought it would reach more people.
My 8 yr old ds got a positive covid test today. He developed symptoms on Monday after we received a email from his school on Saturday saying he had been in direct contact with a positive case at school.
His symptoms have been a high temperature, loss of appetite, a bad headache and strangely a feeling of discomfort and coldness inside his nose. Just thought I would let people know of this symptom as it hasn't been mentioned anywhere. Smile

I hope your son is alright. My young adult daughter, at uni, got Covid and her main symptoms were typically cold symptoms except she said her nose felt funny. I thought then, when she told me, that her test would come back positive. I think some people lose their sense of smell but some just have an odd feeling in their nose.

Cocopogo · 11/11/2020 13:19

Hope your son is ok. My 15 yo didn’t have any symptoms. When I had it the headache was the worse, and loss of taste.

TheDowagerDuchess · 11/11/2020 13:20

Hope he’s ok OP

sijjy · 11/11/2020 13:22

My son has been poorly for a few days but he is definitely getting back to himself now. So I'm hoping that is the worst over. Just got to get through the next 12 days of having everyone at home together. Lol

I hooe he makes a speedy recovery

SummerHouse · 11/11/2020 13:24

Thank you for posting. I don't know why I thought it might be a historical post but it was nice to find it measured and informative. The strange feeling in the nose is a new one and helpful to know. Flowers hope your boy is better soon.

Begonias · 11/11/2020 13:27

I hope he's feeling better soon. My 15yr old DD tested positive on Saturday. She had a slight temp, cold symptoms and at one point felt faint as she was so cold. She was otherwise fine, active, eating loads no change in taste and smell.
She has carried on with school work on teams and is still doing her revision cards on the evenings. She thinks it's like any other cold she's had in the past.

cannaethink · 11/11/2020 13:35

Yeah I had the strange nose symptom when I had it in March. Kinda like a rawness and coldness inside my nose, often with a slight burning smell.

Lamentations · 11/11/2020 13:38

Hope your son feels better soon OP. Someone at work (confirmed case) told me her worst symptom was her nose and sinuses but you hear nothing about that. Useful stuff to post, thanks.

Selfisolation2020 · 11/11/2020 13:45

Oh that’s interesting my 7 year old dd has been mentioning her nose feeling funny since last night. Started as saying it itches then this morning felt sore / strange inside

Ltdannygreen · 11/11/2020 13:56

Now I’m a bit concerned, I had the flu jab 4 weeks ago and got a cold straight after, spoke to dr they said it’s normal but rare and as I didn’t have a cough, high temp or loss of smell that there was no need for a test, it was done with in 2-3 days like a normal cold for me. I’ve always had sinus problems, often getting sinus infections, but I did get a cold burning feel this time. I hope it wasn’t co-vid as I still went to work and the kids were still at school 😩

ScratchyItchy · 11/11/2020 14:18

I had it recently and had the strange feeling in my nose, I would describe it as how your nose feels after water has gone up it when in the swimming pool but it just goes on and on and on...

WeeTeej88 · 17/11/2020 23:36

Op my 6yo DS tested positive on the 11th too. Initial symptom was loss of taste/smell that raised enough suspicion for us to book a test. Since then he’s had typical cold symptoms (headaches, sore throat, sore eyes) He’s having spells of feeling ok and being able to play, followed by spells of lethargy. Today has probably been his worst day though, really lethargic and developing a low grade fever tonight? Hows ur little one doing? Its such an unsettling feeling knowing your child has it eh? Sad

NullcovoidNovember · 17/11/2020 23:42

I also had strange feeling in nose like little prickles, moving in there but not particularly bad or anything... But felt slightly burning... It could imagine why the burning lungs threads came about, that's for sure!!

CaptainCabinets · 18/11/2020 02:34

I had a weird feeling in my nose too! Very much like if I’d been swimming and got water up my nostrils. Constantly! I hope your son is better soon Flowers

Pumpkinstace · 18/11/2020 02:48

My 6 year old had it and the main 'symptoms' was a dodgy tummy and her complaining of painful calves.

Namaste6 · 18/11/2020 03:27

Poor thing, hope your son feels better soon OP. My 18 yr old son tested positive at uni some weeks ago. The only symptoms he had was a very slight loss of taste and feeling a bit tired for a couple of days. He had put that down to the late nights and a few too many beers in halls. As time goes on and the more we learn about this virus, the more we'll understand about all the additional symptoms that may not presently be listed.

notsodimwit · 18/11/2020 03:38

Hope your son gets well soon OP Flowers It might also be good to post this in the Covid section on this site as there are lots of interesting treads on it. Smile

sijjy · 18/11/2020 07:33

@WeeTeej88 it is a very strange feeling knowing they have it. My son started with a slightly raised temp and headache on the Sunday. Monday morning he had a fever and didn't want anything to eat and just laid on the settee. We took him for a test then. He also had periods of feeling ok and going off to play but then coming back to lie on the settee. By last Thursday he was feeling quite a bit better his temp was only raising slightly and he went in the garden on our trampoline. He came back in quite quickly and said he couldn't breath. I think he meant short of breath. He hasn't been outside to play since but he's now playing fine in the house. He seems to of bounced back very quickly. His sense of smell came back Sunday. I hope your little man is feeling a lot better soon.

Thank you for all the well
Wishes for my son. He is a lot better now. I think he had it quite mild. He definitely bounced back very quickly. Smile

Thank you OP Flowers Is everyone else in your house ok so far? Theres been virtually no social distancing in my house. Its so difficult to keep them away from everyone else, especially if they’re feeling poorly. DS1 is 15 and has locked himself in his room so i reckon he’ll be ok but myself and DP have sort of accepted the fact we might get it. I wonder how soon others in the house start to display symptoms if they catch it? Confused

userxx · 18/11/2020 08:40

He definitely bounced back very quickly.

That's good, everyone I know who has had it bounced back pretty quickly too.

sijjy · 18/11/2020 09:01

Everyone is fine so far. Keeping everything crossed. I have a 14yr old ds and 20yr old dd that have done the same as yours basically locked themselves in their rooms they only come out to eat. Although the boys share a room. We have been washing hands regular and wiping high touch areas with antibac. Making sure no one shares anything. Giving the toilet a wipe down after he's used it. ( we only have one ) hope you all manage to stay symptom free. There's 3 adults here that have lost 2 weeks wages each as none of us can work from home. I am really hoping it doesn't go into another 14 days.

WeeTeej88 · 18/11/2020 09:38

Thankfully we’re all good in my house so far too, hopefully it stays that way in this next week of our isolation. Like you, we’ve also been washing hands regularly, cleaning on a daily basis and wiping down surfaces throughout the day. My DS is a really “in your face child” IYKWIM Hmm so my thought process is that if the virus is as contagious as made out to be then its more than likely me/DP will get it Sad. Yes seems like a huge financial impact (especially at this time of year) for a virus that so far is pretty similar to a mild cold. Wishing your DS a speedy recovery and fingers crossed the rest of you stay safe and well.

sijjy · 18/11/2020 09:59

Sending well wishes to you and your family too. Thanks
