£60 for hygienist

MozzchopsThirty · 11/11/2020 12:10

Seriously!!!!!

Was £40 before lockdown
Apparently this is due to PPE and having to have time to clean between appointments

AIBU to think that £60 to get my families teeth cleaned is ridiculous

OP posts:
MatildaTheCat · 11/11/2020 12:12

Hygienists need to make a living like everyone else and they can only see a fraction of their usual numbers and have to pay for the PPE so what else can they do?

It sucks but that’s the reality.

Linguaphile · 11/11/2020 12:15

£60 for the whole family seems a bargain to me, and fair enough about the PPE; they have their faces hanging directly over people’s mouths, so presumably they go through a lot of it. 🤷‍♀️ I just paid 158 yesterday for a cleaning for one person (not the US or UK).

CarrieCat · 11/11/2020 12:16

Assume the op means £60 per person. If not that's very cheap.

Sophoa · 11/11/2020 12:17

sounds cheap to me, mine is up to £85

PiperPiper20 · 11/11/2020 12:19

That's cheap compared to here.

justanotherneighinparadise · 11/11/2020 12:19

My dentist wanted £140 odd from memory because of PPE. Previously it was £70. I found someone nearby who was charging £75 for Air Flow and I was delighted with it.

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 11/11/2020 12:19

Mine was £57 before lockdown so doesn't seem too bad to me

lastqueenofscotland · 11/11/2020 12:20

That’s cheap!

Fiddlersgreen · 11/11/2020 12:21

Mine’s always been £60 🤷🏻‍♀️

toothfairycat · 11/11/2020 12:21

Sounds about right- ours charges £54.50.
People spend more than this on having their hair cut or on beauty treatments. Don’t you value your teeth?

MarshaBradyo · 11/11/2020 12:21

Cheap!

£70 for one person here

Baycob · 11/11/2020 12:22

Ask the dentist to do your scale and polish, it’s cheaper.

Talkingtothemoon · 11/11/2020 12:22

Mine was usually £42 but I haven’t booked an appointment yet but I should imagine the cost has gone up now.

I can’t understand why dentists don’t do a proper clean as part of your appointment- it just seems like a money-making scheme in the dental industry. In the country I’m from appointments are 15 mins long and your teeth are cleaned and checked by the dentist and the cost works out as similar to what you pay here for a basic check up.

everyonebutme · 11/11/2020 12:25

It is expensive to go to a hygienist. I have to go regularly as I have gum problems.

DaddysGirlForLife · 11/11/2020 12:26

Its £55 here for one person

Chottie · 11/11/2020 12:26

OP - that sounds reasonable to me. Here in the SE £100 is the norm.

whatsbinhappnin · 11/11/2020 12:29

Mines always been £60

Do your whole family need to have it done?

DarkMintChocolate · 11/11/2020 12:29

Yes! I was paying £60 just for me, before the 1st lockdown, so that was no PPE. My practice charges £40 for PPE and extra cleaning now.

I’d be thanking my lucky stars for £60 for the whole family!

Mrsjayy · 11/11/2020 12:31

I was 45 for me I went every 3 months £60 is a bargain !

Floralnomad · 11/11/2020 12:32

Ours was that pre lockdown

EnglishRain · 11/11/2020 12:33

My DM is a hygienist and has lot 80% of her work since covid. It's no surprise prices are higher Sad

Janaih · 11/11/2020 12:33

Mine last week was 60 instead of usual 40, they said it was because they needed extra because I'd missed my last app due to lockdown in june.
I was a bit annoyed that when I sat in the chair she said she would be manually scraping rather than using the electric one as they weren't allowed to.

ArcheryAnnie · 11/11/2020 12:33

Mine charges £75 per person as standard.

LaurieFairyCake · 11/11/2020 12:34

£118 for 30 minutes here (SE London)

stellagibbons · 11/11/2020 12:36

Mine was £60 pre-Covid and is now £93.
