to think that you shouldn't have to check the dimensions of a brush before you buy it online?

yes, I know, 1st World problem and all that, but here goes...

I bought an OXO dustpan and brush set online - the sort with long handles, and the brush clips to the dustpan handle when not in use.

Anyway, it's tiny. Too short for me to use without bending over, and I'm medium height. plus the dustpan is very small as well.

Lakeland said they will take it back, but won't print my negative review because they say I should have checked the dimensions before buying. I just assumed that it would be a reasonable size, and I shouldn't have to check dimensions.

Anyway, sorry for boring the pants off you all, but I see it as a sneaky way of making sure your items only get good reviews.

Sorry but I sell online and it drives me mad when people send things back because they 'expected it to be bigger'.

We display all of our dimensions clearly. It's not always easy to see completely from a photo, particularly if it's, say, furniture in a room of a different size to yours, or an item of clothing being modelled by someone shorter than you.

If the size of an object matters when you're buying it, please check.

Small businesses often can't sell returned products as new if they've been opened or lightly used, meaning we lose a lot of money when people could just have checked what they were buying in the first place.

I think it's annoying that you HAVE to check the dimensions on everything now because so many things are not what they seem. What really annoys me is when pictures are nothing like the size. I brought some foam mats for the floor. They were the size of my hand yet even on the cover of the item they had a photo of a baby sitting on normal sized ones.

OP, do you buy clothes online in the same dopey way? Of course you check a product before you buy, I'm looking for a grate to fit inside my log-burner, I know the dimensions of the log-burner to the nearest mm and have also considered the Pyrthasgoras factor needed for fitting it in!

How tall are you, OP?

I wouldn’t check the photo - beyond a cursory glance, where I’m looking at the product rather than estimating height - or dimensions of something designed fo be hand held to sweep the floor from standing, because I’m 5’3”.
I think it’s fair to assume that at my below average I should be tall enough for a broom without checking!

I think it’s possibly wrong not to show your review - depending on the words, and your height.

I think it would fair, for example, to say, “I should have checked the dimensions, but as I didn’t I was able to see for myself that this isn’t long enough for someone of 5’7”. As that’s a common height, I think it’s a poorly designed product, so have given it one star. However, I was happy with the returns service.”

If you’re 6’2”, that’s another matter!

Checking whether an item of furniture fits in a space is one thing or an item to fit the dimensions of another item, but I wouldn't expect a long brush handle to only come up to my waist as a 5'7" woman, and for a dustpan to be so small that you can't properly sweep anything into it. The item is simply not fit for purpose.

Quite often you have to drop down another list to actually see the dimensions, and sometimes you have to actually ask the seller as they have not displayed the dimensions.

I don’t think you need to point out how short it is on a review - we can see how short it is. That you didn’t notice isn’t really a good reason to review the product negatively. It does what it says on the tin.
