to think that you shouldn't have to check the dimensions of a brush before you buy it online?

yes, I know, 1st World problem and all that, but here goes...

I bought an OXO dustpan and brush set online - the sort with long handles, and the brush clips to the dustpan handle when not in use.

Anyway, it's tiny. Too short for me to use without bending over, and I'm medium height. plus the dustpan is very small as well.

Lakeland said they will take it back, but won't print my negative review because they say I should have checked the dimensions before buying. I just assumed that it would be a reasonable size, and I shouldn't have to check dimensions.

Anyway, sorry for boring the pants off you all, but I see it as a sneaky way of making sure your items only get good reviews.

I have the same brush, and checked the measurements before I bought it. Seemed obvious to me that you need to.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 09/11/2020 10:22

Yabu. One should always check the dimensions of EVERYTHING before buying online.

SherryPalmer · 09/11/2020 10:22

I’m not sure I would check the dimensions but I usually do scan the reviews for this sort of information so their response would annoy me too.

beela · 09/11/2020 10:22

How would you know how big it was if you didn't check the dimensions? Confused

MaMaLa321 · 09/11/2020 10:23

I have to add that Lakeland customer services have been excellent about the whole thing.

Does look very short and a bit crappy from this picture

You would expect a brush to be a decent length tbh

MaMaLa321 · 09/11/2020 10:25

I assumed it would be a reasonable size. I still think it's not right to not print reviews pointing out how small it is.
But I have learnt a lesson about ordering online.

I agree with pp, the photo makes it clear that its short.

MaMaLa321 · 09/11/2020 10:26

yes, I should have checked the picture as well.

Lakeland always has excellent customer service. It's the only store that will never quibble about returns - at any date for any reason, even if it's your own fault. I'd let the review issue go because, tbh, you should have read the dimensions.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 09/11/2020 10:28

Pictures don’t help much in this case though as we don’t know whether the model is an average height or willowy six footer!

Sirzy · 09/11/2020 10:30

From the photo I would also assume it’s one on the shorter side so best to double check the measurements

KihoBebiluPute · 09/11/2020 10:30

At least it is actually sized to be vaguely useful. I thought from the thread title it would be another example of people buying dolls-house items by mistake

Ariela · 09/11/2020 10:34

Maybe write a different review reflecting the excellent customer service, and their prompt response once you realised you'd not checked the measurements before buying?

queenMab99 · 09/11/2020 10:47

I bought a lovely butter dish, thinking it would be a normal size to hold a 250 gram pack of butter, it was tiny and only holds a quarter of a pack, it is like a toy one to go with a dolls tea set! I now check sizes before I order.

MegaClutterSlut · 09/11/2020 10:50

Yabu. It would be different if the measurements wasn't stated BUT as the measurements were stated why should they get left a bad review? If was your fault for not checking imo

CounsellorTroi · 09/11/2020 10:51

Who was it on Would I Lie To You who ordered a chest of drawers online and was surprised to receive a small parcel. She’d ordered a dolls house one.

Knittedfairies · 09/11/2020 10:54

Your thread title made me wonder if you'd bought from Wish and it was minuscule...

dementedpixie · 09/11/2020 10:54

Some of the reviews do say the handles are short

Fairyliz · 09/11/2020 11:11

I hate companies like this that won’t print negative reviews. I actually find them helpful and they sometimes make me buy a product. Eg a review of a pair of boots said they were very tight, great for me as I have extremely narrow feet and most footwear is too wide.
That actually puts me off Lakeland as looking at the photo I would have assumed the model was very tall (they are usually!)

Brighterthansunflowers · 09/11/2020 11:15

YABU

It’s obvious from the photo it’s not a full sized broom, and it looks quite short. If that’s an issue for you then it’s your responsibility to check the dimensions.

They’re actually giving good customer service by refunding you, so not sure why you also feel the need to give a shit review

MaMaLa321 · 09/11/2020 11:17

I think that's a bit extreme - I've said throughout that they've given good service. And I don't class pointing out how short something is as a 'shit review'.

OP posts:
Graciebobcat · 09/11/2020 11:20

OP is entitled to review the product truthfully, it didn't meet her needs and it would help other people looking to buy it to know that it is small. It's dishonest of them to not allow you to leave a negative review. Of course you can say that customer service was very good and it was easy to return! I wouldn't have thought to necessarily check dimensions for a dustpan either and would just assume it is fit for purpose, i.e. ok for someone of average height.

dementedpixie · 09/11/2020 11:24

Lakeland has some negative reviews about it. Wonder why they say yours wouldn't get put on
