To think he’s too young?

My son is 7. He’s asked for an x box for Christmas - I think this is too young personally, but I’m not sure if maybe I’m being precious over this?

He doesn’t have a tablet, or anything currently, although he has some educational apps on my phone which he is allowed to play with occasionally.

IF and it’s a massive IF I were to get him one, it would be kept in the living room, no fighting games, and time kept to a minimum and only on a weekend day.

Anyway:

YABU - 7 is fine for a games console as long as it is monitored properly

Hold off. I think even more during the pandemic as I assume outside of school he is not meeting friends or going outside the house (and garden if you have one) much. Habits could be formed which are less likely were there more options for being outdoors and with friends.

I had Playstation by age 5. DD will be getting a Switch for Xmas and she's 4.

7 really isn't too young at all imo.

Absolutely no way. Far too young. You'll have endless arguments about it.
None of my teens have one, thank God.

What about a nintendo switch? We got one recently, and they seem much more child friendly that Xbox/playstation, but do have a range of similar games for when he gets older. Added bonus of a switch is that it is portable.

My son didn't see any touchscreens until 5 years old. From then could play on the computer for 30-60 mins per day. From 7yrs old it was more like an hour and a half. He got his first tablet at 10.
and at 15 he still doesn't have an xbox.
He is still alive though
