To think Trump could be president again in 2024?

Don't get me wrong I am delighted we don't have another 4 years of the orange toddler to put up with. But since he's only served 4 years can he run again to serve another 4?

He lost but he still had a hell of a lot of votes. He still has a lot of very dedicated supporters. What if Joe Biden at 82 decides not to run again in 2424 and Kamala runs instead and Trump is able to stir up the divisive politics that got him in first time again?? Has this occurred to anyone else? Shudder

If he does want to run again, will he have Kanye West alongside? I hope trumpll be in prison.

midsomermurderess · 08/11/2020 09:08

Trump and Biden are as bad as each other? Expressing an informed opinion is one thing, your opinion is uninformed idiotic and shite. Not worth a moments respect.

ImNotBusyImLazy · 08/11/2020 09:09

Legaly he could run, yes. And he could get enough votes to win (assuming he made it through the primaries). BUT...he has dementia and God knows what other health ailments. In 4 years' time he he won't be able to chew his own food. And he will possibly be in jail.

ImNotBusyImLazy · 08/11/2020 09:09

*Legally.

nosswith · 08/11/2020 09:10

I don't expect Donald Trump to stand again, though he may not say so until perhaps 2023.

OP- most toddlers are nice, I did not like the comparison.

cushioncovers · 08/11/2020 09:11

No I don't but apparently his older son has got eyes on the White House for 2024.

Mrscutesmummy · 08/11/2020 09:18

That is very true, apologies toddlers. I was just referring to his level of emotional maturity/ penchant for tantrums.

Here's what Mary Trump has to say:

After January, things look bleak for Donald. He has more than $400m of debt coming in the next four years. Why at this point would his lenders cut him any slack? He has never paid anyone back. His businesses are in the tank. He has destroyed his brand.

He is going to be a factor in courtrooms in New York City more than he’s going to be a factor in politics, I think. His secretary of defence has already submitted his resignation, and I think there will be more of that. The Republicans might need him for the January run-offs in Georgia, but he could be considered a liability. If he’s acting like a crazy person, senators are going to keep their distance. People will move away from him if there’s nothing in it for them any more.

It’s not like he has any friends, anyway. It’s grim for him. Donald Jr, Ivanka and Eric also know their relationship with their father is both conditional and transactional. I have been saying since 2016 that I was going to have to change my name. I think they’re going to have to change theirs.

As for saying he’ll run in 2024, that’s just a face-saving exercise. It’s a way of distracting him from the fact that he’s probably going to prison. But the worst thing Donald’s looking at isn’t financial difficulties or the prospect of jail. It’s becoming irrelevant. I don’t think he would ever recover from that.

ReadySteadyBed · 08/11/2020 10:17

I don’t think he would in case he lost again, that would be more humiliating for him. He’ll find a good excuse and move on to other things, he’s just saying it now to show ‘strength’....

dreamingbohemian · 08/11/2020 10:32

No. He's going to jail.

Right-wing voters are going to split into several factions, it may take them a while to get organised behind a single leader again.

Most likely the Republicans will nominate a 'normal'' politician type and some deranged third party QAnon person will run and split the vote.

Ellmau · 08/11/2020 11:01

He could stand again, if still alive and well/not preoccupied by dealing with his finances/any legal issues.

The Republican establishment doesn't actually like him much - they didn't really want him last time, and many were dismayed when he won the candidacy. If they have any sense they'll be on the lookout for a credible alternative candidate.

Pence will probably stand. A Trump family member might give it a go too.

TicTacTwo · 08/11/2020 11:10

I noticed Ted Cruz supporting Trump's claims. There's someone hoping for the GOP nomination.
I think Ivanka, Don Jr or Eric are more likely to run than Trump

hopeishere · 08/11/2020 11:22

I think the kids would think about running. Don Jr is so desperate to win his fathers approval it's sad.

American politics is so wired that someone who had no political experience was able to become the President. Also that they couldn't find any younger candidates.

Fallsballs · 08/11/2020 11:43

Sure Kanye and the Kardashians will be in the whitehouse by then doing selfies with their arses enlarging on an annual basis 🤪

mumwon · 08/11/2020 11:58

Can someone who is financial (we know he is morally!) bankrupt run for office in USA?
Because much though he probably deserves prison terms for many of his actions sadly I don't think it will happen. I think he will land up in court for bankruptcy but he is so slippery ...
What I think is worrying is how blind his supporters are to who he really is & how many lies he tells

longwayoff · 08/11/2020 18:25

Any of you seen the film "Idiocracy"? A comedy about a dystopian future. Or it was when it was made in 2006. It's now so close to the truth it's not funny.

Tfoot75 · 08/11/2020 18:30

I expect he will be a convicted criminal so presume that would make him ineligible? But other than that, he'll be 78. I know Biden is 77 now so no different, but I don't think many obese people live to be late 70s/early 80s, particularly not in good health.

AlternativePerspective · 08/11/2020 18:43

Thing is, his supporters are caught up in a cult-like state at the moment. Once he disappears they will come back down from that and many will come to their senses. And while many will still vote republican, I think they won’t see Trump in the same way after he’s been out of touch for a while.

As an aside, what is this book by the niece called and where can I buy it?

Leaannb · 08/11/2020 18:48

I predict that Biden will stay in office for 2 years before stepping down and Harris taking over. Giving jer the possibility of governing for 10 years

Agree with this. Three years at most. Kamala is the next President after Joe - he’s a seat warmer for her.
Simplyunacceptable · 08/11/2020 19:31

He won’t get nominated again so no, it won’t happen.

NullcovoidNovember · 08/11/2020 19:38

Well, one can't deny the size of the vote!. More voted for him than any other president?.. Something like that....... Let's hope Biden gets things right.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 08/11/2020 20:01

A few million more people voted for Biden than for Trump:
75,218,898 votes for Biden
70,814,343 votes for Trump.

It was a spectacularly high turnout.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 08/11/2020 20:03

His record will stand for 72 days: after that there will be a president who got a whole lot more than he did.
