Did you return it?

I walked out of Asda with an entire trolley of shopping. Only in car park I noticed that I'm still holding a note in my hand. Confused of course I returned and apologised. I shop there almost daily, don't want to be in their black books.

ReadySteadyBed · 08/11/2020 09:49

Yep...box of beer when we used the scan & go. DH put it in trolley so I assumed he scanned it, he assumed I would. I didn’t own up...used to work for the same supermarket at uni and they were bastards. Probably shouldn’t really shop there Grin

HTH1 · 08/11/2020 09:53

Not my fault but a toy shop put £20 more vouchers than I had asked (and paid) for in the envelope and I didn’t even open it until days later. It was for a gift so I could easily never have opened it at all.

Felt guilty when I realised so I called them and paid £20 over the phone. They hadn’t noticed and didn’t even thank me for my trouble/honesty!

Nottherealslimshady · 08/11/2020 09:54

No but it was only sweets when I was young, I'd pick them up wanting them then mum would walk out. I'd eat them really fast hoping she didn't know.

LostAcre · 08/11/2020 09:56

I gave DC1 a board book at Tesco once to keep him amused while he was sat in the trolley seat.

Went through the tills, and got halfway back to the car before I realised he’d stuffed the book inside his jumper. I went back and paid for it at the self scan tills.

Although I don’t think the staff noticed anything. The security guard on the doors completely ignored me when I went back in.

DFAMA · 08/11/2020 09:57

Yes, toddler snatched a cake off the shelf in the shop which I didn't notice until we got home, I didn't return it as she had eaten most of it by then

ButterflyBitch · 08/11/2020 09:58

Yes a twix when I was a teenager and no i didn’t return it. Also a cd when I was a teenager which I did go back to pay for. The shop assistant was really surprised and said most wouldn’t have bothered. I felt a twix wouldn’t matter too much but a cd which was way more expensive, didn’t sit right with me not to go back and pay.

JeVoudrais · 08/11/2020 10:02

I walked out of a pound shop with a Santa sack on my arm once. I was in a hurry so I put £5 in a nearby charity tin to offset it!

Another time in Primark the assistant managed to not scan a couple of items, they beeped on the till but didn't get added on. I noticed when I went out and checked my receipt. I went back in but it was nearly closing and the security guard stopped me. I explained and he told me to keep them and go for being an honest person, because they needed to close anyway and Primark wouldn't miss it, so I went home Blush

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 08/11/2020 10:06

I’ve had a couple of instances where I’ve got home and realised that I wasn’t charged for all items despite the cashier apparently scanning them all. Both were in M&S - one was a bra (I’d bought three for DS along with some other clothing) and another time it was a cushion.

Years ago I noticed a similar mistake with some pricey cosmetics so went back to the store and ended up in an office with them Basically refusing to believe the staff had made a mistake (this was one of those counters where you have to ask for the products) and implying that I had intentionally stolen the product and gone back out if guilt..... for that reason, if the store makes a mistake and I don’t notice it there and then I’m afraid I won’t go back.......

EminyBOO · 08/11/2020 10:08

A meal in a fancy restaurant. Not my fault though. I ordered a surf and turf - fillet steak and lobster. On the menu there wasn’t a price, it said priced seasonally. It was my birthday and dh was paying.
Got the bill, dh paid and we left.
Later on I asked him how much it was and when he told me I thought it sounded cheaper than it should be, but was still quite high so didn’t think too much of it until I looked at the bill he had kept and they had charged us £4 for the surf and turf. I’m assuming it was supposed to be £40.
No we didn’t go back.

I had socks delivered, only they weren’t. We scoured the garage ( two of us) no parcel. Got a refund. A year later, opened the garage door one day and there they were. Tried to find out how to sort it snd couldn’t. They are still upstairs and unworn two years after original order because I feel guilty. Someone tell me I’m daft, please!

lampygirl · 08/11/2020 10:18

@Lunariagal

Half a cucumber from asda.......
When trolleys used to have the flower holder bit in the far corner a cucumber was ‘stolen’ several times a year in our house, never intentionally and sometimes it never made it into the car either so was left in the trolley in the car park. It seemed the perfect place to keep it safe when you were shopping but it only took minor distraction at the checkout to forget it. Much safer once our supermarket replaced the trolleys without that little tube!

A hospital towel , when I was going home from a small op’ my husband packed my bags and stole a towel thinking it was mine. I didn’t return it.

Ijumpedtheshark · 08/11/2020 10:25

I once walked out of Boots with a box of tampax under my my arm. Went back to pay and the shop assistant looked at me like I was mad and only begrudgingly let me pay which made it all very embarrassing. Not sure how I’d handle that if it happened again.

Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 08/11/2020 10:29

I accidentally stole 3 little note books. Costing £1 each. I got about 10 mins away from shop and ran back. The shop assistant was amazed I came back to pay.

My DD picked up a pepperami in a shop. I forgot she had it. We got home (2 mins away) and she started to run back shouting 'my pepperami.' When we got to the shop the keeper let her keep the pepperami and gave her a bag of sweets for her honesty.

Yes, I bought some stationery and two packs of the same item stuck together so only paid for one. Self-scanned two items of jewellery in a supermarket and only one went through so I had a word with a couple of assistants who were chatting. They shrugged their shoulders and weren't at all bothered. They just carried on their conversation so I got a free ring. When I think of the times it's gone the other way I reckon it's evened itself out in the end.

Whoopsies · 08/11/2020 10:35

There was a corner shop at the top of our road when I was a student, I once slotted a couple of magazines on top of a work folder, bought some other bits and forgot about the magazines. I went back in on my way home from uni and the guy just laughed and said he over charges for everything else so not to worry about them 😂

Dee1975 · 08/11/2020 10:38

Stole a big bag of nappies from a large supermarket once. I was with buggy and a basket. Put them under the buggy while I walked round. Forgot about them at the tills. Realised at my car, but no didn’t take back. If it was from a small independent it would have been different.
From then on though I always made sure I checked the bottom of the buggy at checkout!

Hailtomyteeth · 08/11/2020 10:38

Yes. Walked out of M&S Manchester with my full basket over my arm, wandered over the bridge to Currys, bought a small electrical item. Noticed when paying that I'd accidentally shoplifted from M&S. Concluded my purchase at Currys and walked back over the bridge, queued to pay at M&S, no harm done.

I was unnerved by the experience, though.

BiggerBoat1 · 08/11/2020 10:39

I bought a really expensive teddy bear as a gift many years ago when it was the old credit card machines that take an imprint of the card's details. I realised about a week later that no money had been taken so I went back and sorted it out. It was a very small independent shop and they were very grateful I'd made the effort.

2Kidsinatrenchcoat · 08/11/2020 10:44

I accidentally stole a single avocado last week, it was under my shopping bags in the trolly and I was in a hurry, didn’t go back

Bookworming · 08/11/2020 10:47

Went to the pub had a tab, left without paying!

Went to use my card the next day ..... it suddenly dawned on me! Landlord was fine, to make amends I had a couple more drinks 😆

QuestionableMouse · 08/11/2020 10:48

I once accidentally stole a sheep. Had been with my boss to pick a new horse up. Loaded him. Left the ramp open while I went to grab some hay. Gave the net to my boss to hang up, closed the ramp and came home.

Got home and went to unload said horse. There's a sheep in the next partition. I've never felt so confused 🤣🤣.

Little bugger must have snuck in while we were grabbing hay and neither of us had see it.

Boss was very sheepish 🙄😂😂 when she rang to explain.

diplodocusinermine · 08/11/2020 10:49

Lunch in a Japanese cafe. Hadn't long been going out with DH and we went for lunch, spent a couple of hours talking nineteen to the dozen and walked out without paying. Realised a couple of hours later and DH went back on the Monday to pay - they were really nice about it but we never had the nerve to show our faces there again.

NetflixWatcher · 08/11/2020 10:54

Cat litter on the hook thing near the handles on the trolley. Trolley was full so hung it there or it would have squashed my food. I went back in and said I've just stole this can i pay.
