Did you return it?

When my daughter was a newborn I blame baby brain I was shopping in asda, put the nappies and wipe under the pram (no where else to put them) grabbed and paid for the wipes but the nappies had slipped forward. Didn't find them for a week even folded the pram away with them in there. Honestly these things happen I didn't return them, my daughter helped herself to jewellery off a Xmas Market last year (she's only 2) saw her fiddling with something when we got lunch, took ages to find the right stall but we did return that 😂

Yes , a handbag from Primark . I was in there with my sister and I hooked the bag over my arm while I looked at some scarves. It was only when I was almost home, I saw the bag still on my arm . I didn't take it back but I did put some money in a charity collection to make myself feel a bit better !

Sparklingbrook · 08/11/2020 07:28

I stole a pack of Milky Ways from Asda. They were tucked under the child seat of the trolley and didn’t make it on to the conveyor. Felt awful but devised a plan to go back in next time buy another pack and scan it twice at the self service till. Grin

It’s happened a few times. I would return it if it was from a small trader or an item we couldn’t use, but frankly, the number of times I’ve been overcharged or made to wait 20 minutes for a refund when I notice a discrepancy, I reckon it’s probably the supermarkets that owe me and not the reverse.

speakout · 08/11/2020 07:33

Yes I stole a reel of cotton thread from Woolworths when I was 4.
I showed my parents when I got home and was spanked very hard!!

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 08/11/2020 07:36

I’ve accidentally taken thing without paying a couple of times. I’ve returned to the store if I’ve realised in the car park or called from home and offered to pay over the phone.

When I was a teenager I walked out of H&M wearing a hat I'd tried on. About 5 minutes later my friend said "Oh did you buy it then?" And I realised what I'd done.
Had a near nervous breakdown thinking that I was about to get jumped on by security and sent to prison. We decided the best course of action was to run past and Frisbee it back into the store Blush

Think I avoided H&M for months after convinced they were still looking for me and my failed klepto ways...

mummyh2016 · 08/11/2020 07:43

Yep, a Lamaze toy from toys r us before they closed down. We'd given it to DD to keep her occupied. Paid for our shopping, got in the car. Wasn't until we pulled up at home and was getting DD out the car we realised she was still holding it and we hadn't paid for it Blush didn't go back as toys r us was half an hour drive from our house plus it was when they were closing down so we knew we wouldn't be going back.

Wellhellyeah · 08/11/2020 07:46

A meal. On holiday in a cutsey cafe, at the end DP and I both went to the loo then left. Half an hour later we both realised neither of us had paid so went back, explained what had happened and said we were there to pay now. The woman was absolutely vile about it. I wouldn't mind so much but it was at the top of a very steep climb and I am not the steep climb typeHmm.

My grandma and I unintentionally stole a box of apples from a supermarket. It was on a ledge underneath the trolley and we didn't realise we hadn't put it through the till until we'd made a long trek back to the car. Made a lovely apple pie.

Lunariagal · 08/11/2020 07:48

Half a cucumber from asda.......

stonebrambleboy · 08/11/2020 07:49

30 years ago the cashier in M &S didn't ring through a track suit for my son (£19). I didn't realise until I got home. I sent them a cheque and a letter of explaination. Got a nice letter back with a £3 gift voucher, mean sods they could have rounded it up to £5 !

lesleyfish · 08/11/2020 07:51

I had an umbrella with a strap so you can put it over your shoulder. Unknown to me, as I was looking at baby clothes, coat hangers with clothes on got caught on the back of my umbrella. I walked all the way down Oxford street and back to work before realising... I was also once looking at earrings on a turning rack and put my carrier bag between my feet. As I was looking some earrings pinged off. I looked all over the floor and found them at home in my carrier bag

ivykaty44 · 08/11/2020 07:51

My dad walked out of JL With 3 rolls of film in his hand, about a mile down the rd he realised. So I phoned up and paid for the films on store card when we were driving home

5 days later a package from JL arrived, 3 films and a note thank us for our honesty and a gift if 3 more films

TooOldforBouncyCastles · 08/11/2020 07:52

12 toilet rolls from a large supermarket. Under the trolley which had preloaded bags and just forgot. Didn’t take them back as I’d two toddlers, no sleep and just couldn’t face another visit to the shop.

I feel it is balanced by the local (same company) forgetting to put items in my bag and I paid, walked out and got home before realising. It was more irritating to find the time to repeat the shopping.

SpikeDearheart · 08/11/2020 08:05

Years ago I had a scarf with a loopy fringe. I took it off after a shopping trip and found a pen hooked on to one of the loops. I can only assume the pen was in a display box at the till of one of the shops and got caught in my scarf as I was paying for something else! Plenty of light-fingered toddlers on this thread, but does anyone else have a larcenous scarf? Grin

ILoveAnOwl · 08/11/2020 08:10

Both times it was my son's doing! First time was at a zoo. Son picked up an item, I didn't realize until we got home. It was too far to go to return it, but you could donate online so I did that instead. Second time was a Christmas ornament in homebase. Again, I didn't notice until we got home that he had it. Could've taken that back, but didn't.

Mummyoflittledragon · 08/11/2020 08:17

2 croissants from the local Sainsbury’s. I told the cashier we had 4 when we had 6. I gasped when I we got home and realised my mistake. Dd wanted to go back and I said I’d pay the next time I went. I didn’t as I when I next got to the till, I was too embarrassed to explain.

TravelDreamLife · 08/11/2020 08:17

Not so much stolen, but was at the beach & went to buy a small toy for each DC. Shopkeeper rang it up. About 5 min walk down the road I realised she hadn't charged me for one of them. Went back. She was very, very grateful.

Pashazade · 08/11/2020 08:17

Done the packet of loo rolls hanging off the hook on the trolley and on a different trip a DIY will form. Only a couple of sheets of folded A4 really and totally forgot I had it in my hand....

waitrosetrollydolly · 08/11/2020 08:20

Years ago I needed a sofa, I couldn't afford one but could just stretch to a futon from the local outlet of a big brand shop. I chatted to the sales lady and said I'd need help getting it into my car. She called over a colleague to help and pointed out which one I wanted. We walked to my car and I opened the rear hatch I then went back inside to pay. By the time I'd paid they were both standing outside my car with the hatch down looking pleased with themselves . I showed my receipt for it - thanked them both and drove home. My dad and brother where there to help me get it out the other end . They dispatched me to make a brew and some sandwiches and when I came back into the lounge TWO beautiful new futons were set up ! The sales lady definitely new I could only afford one !! Bless her !!

Squirrelblanket · 08/11/2020 08:23

Yes I once stole a bottle of cooking oil. I'd popped into the supermarket for a few things and didn't get a basket. I had a few things in my hands and had tucked the bottle under my arm. I paid for the stuff in my hands but didn't realise until I got back to the car that the oil was still under my arm! I didn't bother going back.

Purpler5 · 08/11/2020 08:25

Yes I have and no I didn’t return it! It was from Tesco worth about £3.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 08/11/2020 08:28

Lip balm. Usual parent of small child story, shopping in hood of pram going round the shop and it managed to hide in a fold until I got home.

Also a meal but I went back and paid. Not sure how it happened, me and friend had meal in cafe and still chatting both got up and walked out and home without paying! I realised most of the way home so legged it back and paid. We were fairly regular there they just laughed and said I should have waited until next time.

AngelicInnocent · 08/11/2020 08:29

Stopped at the garage I always stopped at to buy my lunch on the way to work. For once, I also put petrol in my car there instead of at the supermarket.

Went in and bought my lunch as normal and totally forgot about the petrol. As I drove away, I remembered I needed sweets for a competition prize at work so went back.

Cashier laughed as I walked in and said, you realised then, I was so confused how she knew I had forgotten sweets. Wasn't until she mentioned £40 petrol I remembered.
