Finally realising just how much time i spend procrastinating and generally wasting time on it.

The only good thing is keeping in touch with family and friends.

Has anyone give it up?
Has it been a good thing?

I have family group chats so I kept messenger but just deleted the app from my phone. Account still active. Don’t miss it at all. Messenger works fine still.

ChasingRainbows19 · 07/11/2020 08:02

@LagunaBubbles I don’t feel superior at all Hmm, I don’t care who has it and doesn’t. I’ve just realised I don’t need it. Pandemic made it worse in my eyes: so I deleted the app. Been two months and I don’t miss it.

I don’t judge anyone using it, I’ve been using it for 13 years.

EatTheHamTina · 07/11/2020 08:12

I gave it up 8 years ago. Do not miss it at all.

EatTheHamTina · 07/11/2020 08:13

@LagunaBubbles

I dont understand these threads. Fb is only social media and not compulsory. Funny enough I enjoy it because I don't have arses on it as friends posting "drivel". But this is MN where lots of people who don't use it like to act superior and look down on people who do . Hey ho.
I don't feel superior either. What an odd thing to say.

I don't judge anyone using it. I judge the evil companies for manipulating everyone, creating dopamine-addicted children, contributing to increasing depression, suicide and anxiety in young people, taking away our humanity, disrupting democracy and fundamentally altering society. Silicone Valley are the new Big Tobacco. But in many ways, worse.

keeponspinning · 07/11/2020 11:21

Evil was the wrong word. I don't think they're evil. They're just doing what they're being allowed to do to make money.

prozacfree · 07/11/2020 11:28

I have unfollowed lots of people but still kept them as friends so as not to offend them Grin That way I can still keep in the loop with the people I really care about and school pages etc. Best thing ever.

Sideorderofchips · 07/11/2020 12:47

I did after splitting witb my ex. Best thing I ever did

WishICouldThinkOfAGoodName · 07/11/2020 13:03

Do it. I gave it up and never looked back. It’s not authentic. It’s a fake snapshot. If it makes you feel bad it’s damaging.

NorbertMeubles · 07/11/2020 13:04

Best thing I ever did was leave that shit behind. Shit = Facebook

Lifeisabeach09 · 07/11/2020 13:17

Yes, I gave it up two years ago (ish) but remained on messenger. Don't miss it at all-no toxicity, negativity and pressure to try this or that (from the ads).
But I am on Mumsnet more....
Definitely recommend deleting Facebook.

NetflixWatcher · 07/11/2020 20:12

Oh yes the less social media the better. I didnt have a mobile or social media for a few years. It just got to much so I stopped and didnt want to begin again. The most chilled I've ever been.

LagunaBubbles · 07/11/2020 22:30

Nope nit and odd thing to say at all based on the comments on past threads!
