... no matter how mean spirited you were or how awful your personal situation was?

Every day’s a school day on Mumsnet. I thought the Hokey Cokey was a kids party thing. People seriously do it as adults for fun?
Admittedly I’ve ended many an evening in a big circle, arms round shoulders, high kicking to ‘New York, New York’...

Kljnmw3459 · 07/11/2020 08:06

Hokey cokey yes please!!!!!!! Conga absolutely no.

Pashazade · 07/11/2020 08:16

See I was wondering the other day...I think very randomly Agadoo was on the radio (I may have pushed a pineapple) but this kind of party song, it really is a very British speciality isn't it?? I mean I'm happy to be corrected but it just seems to be a Uk thing (utterly random Xmas number ones being another, looking at you Mr Blobby).

Oh God. I was just thinking last night. I wonder if those two randoms singing about sausage rolls will do another Christmas single this year?
zigzagbetty · 07/11/2020 09:23

Love ladbaby! Hope they are back with a festive bake song🎵

sandgrown · 07/11/2020 09:25

I the current climate we need a cheesy Christmas number one for our virtual parties . I love all the silly dances but that may be because I used to be a seaside landlady and spent years teaching our ( mainly older) guests dances and party games . I am feeling nostalgic now . Off to dance round the kitchen!

Ahem, may I just take this opportunity to clarify that I was here long before they released their song Grin

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 07/11/2020 15:39

I read that, when the man who invented the Hockey-Cokey died, his funeral was really traumatic for everybody present.

His family had chosen an open-casket service and his love of doing the dance had become so instinctive during his lifetime that, even after his death, it still took the undertakers fifteen full minutes, two dozen sand bags and a big pack of bungees to get the lid on the coffin closed ready for his solemn exit as the choir belted out his big signature closing number.

MiniMum97 · 07/11/2020 17:31

@Noteventhebestdrummer

Is that what it's all about?
😂😂
WitchesSpelleas · 07/11/2020 22:30

Not sure whether I'd be in. Or out. In, or out? Shake it all about ...

myhobbyisouting · 07/11/2020 22:32

"No one does The Superman anymore though"

Excuuuuuuuse me - I do!

katy1213 · 07/11/2020 22:33

I think I've suddenly joined the COVID police and couldn't possibly join in!

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 07/11/2020 22:38

I took Dd to a party once and Steps, "5, 6, 7, 8" came on and my body started moving before I even clicked what song it was. Fairly sure the same happened with Reach for the Stars.

In my defence I once had a job where I had to dress up as Tweety Pie and carry out said dances so I think it's just instinct at this stage.

Fauvist · 07/11/2020 22:42

Even without Covid, I would absolutely refuse. I hate this kind of horrible enforced mass jollity. I'm not a miserable person, I like seeing people and having fun. But this I do not like and will not do. I find it excruciating.

WorraLiberty · 07/11/2020 22:42

I'm learning the Okey Kokey.

Not all of it, just the ins and outs.

everythingthelighttouches · 07/11/2020 22:48

I’ll see your Hokey Cokey and raise you an

Aaaa- ga-do-do-do !!!!

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 07/11/2020 22:48

I don't mind silly party dances but the idea of karaoke terrifies me and I'm always anxious someone's put my name down without me knowing.

ImEatingVeryHealthilyOhYes · 07/11/2020 22:48

Something comes over me in these group fun situations and I automatically join in before I realise what I’m doing.

Please no one invite me to an orgy!

APurpleSquirrel · 07/11/2020 22:53

I partook in the Hokey Cokey just this week with DS & the rest of the toddler group we go to - all socially distanced of course!

Allywill · 07/11/2020 23:16

Even at 18 months old my children refused to do the okey Cokey at toddles club. They hated it. What time is it mr wolf now that’s the real deal.

amusedbush · 07/11/2020 23:28

@CaveMum

Nah, gotta be a Macarena, or if you feel really adventurous a Cha Cha Slide.

No one does The Superman anymore though [sad face]

DH went through a phase at the start of lockdown where he'd ask Alexa to play the Superman song at least once a day and he'd make me do the whole dance with him. So we'd be in front of the living room window doing all the actions - Comb your hair! Ring the bell! Ski! - and I'd be praying that none of the neighbours could see in HmmGrin

No-one else for Oops Upside Your Head then? I think the Hokey Cokey is a LOT older than the 80s
