The fireworks tonight

AIBU or are you probably just an anarchist or an arsehole to be setting off fireworks and firecrackers during a lockdown, when official displays are banned?

There's no excuse to be frightening animals either tonight. Don't be a dickhead.

Considering it's November the 5th, I was hoping for more.

BadlyDrawnSimpsonsCharacter · 05/11/2020 18:43

@QueenPaws

Hate them. Used to not mind them Then someone put one through my window and it landed next to me and exploded. The damage had to be paid for by me, and the fear.. I have all my windows shut, curtains closed and lights off because they will put them through windows/letterboxes. Last year the care home had them thrown in, and a woman with a baby in a car
Are you serious!? Jesus! That's horrific
annabel85 · 05/11/2020 18:43

There's something sadistic about people willfully causing harm to animals. The poor things are terrified tonight.

OP posts:
QueenPaws · 05/11/2020 18:46

@BadlyDrawnSimpsonsCharacter here's the firework after (you can see the scorch on the skirting) and my hand with heat type burn from it
Luckily my instinct was (well the police said incredible) to move and I got out the room, slammed the door (fire door) with the cat under my arm as it finished exploding

The fireworks tonight

BadlyDrawnSimpsonsCharacter · 05/11/2020 18:47

@QueenPaws I'm so sorry you had to go through that Sad there's so many fucking idiots about!

Destinysdaughter · 05/11/2020 18:48

There's loads of fireworks going off round mine tonight, it's like bloody Beirut!

ilovesooty · 05/11/2020 18:48

@OnlyFoolsnMothers

Are fireworks banned under lockdown too? Ffs
They should be banned for private use if they aren't silent ones. Lockdown or not.
LastGoldenDaysOfSummer · 05/11/2020 18:48

@annabel85

Perfectly legal to have fireworks.

Legal to have them. Illegal to set them off in public places, if it's not an official display.

Perfectly legal to set them off in your garden.

Don't be a party pooper, kids have little enough fun at the moment.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 05/11/2020 18:49

@RichardMarxisinnocent

Fireworks started here about 20 minutes ago and are going off thick and fast. I can feel myself starting to panic thanks to my phobia of fire. Home is where I am supposed to feel safe, but I currently feel anything but.

Perhaps those who think its all fine and people who don't like fireworks are just whining could advise me how to cope? Earplugs won't work because having heard them, I will still know that they are going off. My usual CBT techniques don't work because they are for coping with fear of something hypothetical happening, whereas the risks and dangers of fireworks are real. But I can't use practical problem solving either because there is nothing I can do to stop them going off or to prevent one landing on my roof or hitting my windows.

I see a distinct lack of response to my asking for advice on how to cope? It was the same on another thread. People who mentioned partners with PTSD were also ignored. Do those who insist that it's perfectly ok for everyone let off firework in their back gardens surrounded by houses not want to acknowledge how distressing it is for some people? Or just don't care?
annabel85 · 05/11/2020 18:53

I said it was illegal in public places, not private property.

Perfectly within the rules to have them in your garden, ethically questionable to terrify small animals.

No same with things I have posted it is because if they answer they have to admit they do not care about others with illnesses or disabilities so would rather ignore the questions. As it proves what selfish humans they really are. So sorry you are suffering through selfish people.

LizaE · 05/11/2020 19:03

you bought your animals knowing bonfire night and fireworks exists. fireworks on bonfire night are not a problem

Let's all tell that to the animals that don't understand, and we'll all be ok, hey.

Hmm
SonjaMorgan · 05/11/2020 19:04

I have a dog who hates fireworks and has been barking constantly. But it only happens a few times a year. And this year has been especially crappy for everyone.

ilovesooty · 05/11/2020 19:04
@annabel85 - to have some fun. In their own garden.

Because they like them
Because they can
Fuck everyone else then?

Merrymumoftwo · 05/11/2020 19:04

The problem with fireworks is the same with most things

 1. it’s not one night, Halloween, bonfire night, Diwali and New Years plus days either side with other things it starts for one reason then expands
 2. idiots get them and do stupid things we have had running battles with groups firing them at one another with innocent people in the middle
 3. not everyone is careful. I’m in the middle of an estate, fireworks being let off in communal area and I guarantee the cleaners will be left to clean it up in the morning

One more thought unless sparklers most fireworks can not be controlled so can end up anywhere so your small back garden could lead to it going into someone else’s who happens to end up hurt.

It’s been a really horrid year I get people needing fun but are loud fireworks the only way?

VelvetSpoon · 05/11/2020 19:07

YANBU OP.

In my street there's currently a street party with 3 sets of neighbours (no social distancing obvs), one of them is letting off fireworks in his front garden. They are all thick as pigshit.

EatDessertFirst · 05/11/2020 19:09

@RichardMarxisinnocent

There is no way our statements will be acknowledged or answered. The posters who are on 'our side' about fireworks will be horrified by our experiences and not know what to say which is understandable.

The garden fire work fuckers and the 'let the kids have fun coz covid' dickheads are too selfish and empty headed and probably quite dim to boot.

Thank you.

I can hear them from all directions, I am trying to distract myself by browsing the web and sort of watching TV, but it's not helping much. I keep going to the window to check how close to me they are.

StormcloakNord · 05/11/2020 19:15

My dogs currently hiding against the sofa constantly staring at the door/window and can't settle. He's panting and he won't eat his carrots.

Hope you're all enjoying your 5/10 minutes of shitty interspersed bangs with shitty looking sparkles!!

Must be worth it, stuff the animals eh?

It'll be the same across the board. Naive to think fireworks are only being set off in gardens with only that household there and people following the guidelines.

It's any excuse to fuck about and take the piss, whether it's VE Day conga lines or bonfire night.

That's horrendous, it must have been absolutely terrifying.

OverTheRainbow88 · 05/11/2020 19:17

@RichardMarxisinnocent

I would shut all curtains/blinds/windows, turn the radio on loud or the tv. Have a glass of vino or 2, take a couple of paracemtol and go to bed early. Do you have any night nurse or anything like a drowsy antihistamine?

Could you call someone for a catch up as a way to distract?

It's horrible isn't it, watching your pet terrified. I had to give my dog his tea in his basket because he won't leave it.
