to have rice pudding for dinner

The tinned sort. Not everyday, but occasionally, if (like today) I've had a big lunch and I don't fancy cooking. I say it's carb and protein and no worse than a takeaway pizza (in fact I think better in terms of fat content). DP disagrees.

I'm going to assume that you're a grown woman and therefore perfectly capable of deciding what to eat

YABVU to worry about what anyone else thinks

Eat what you fancy woman Grin

raspberryk · 04/11/2020 16:06

It’s the choice of whoever is eating it and whether others can make something else if they want. I often don’t have a “meal” when I’ve had a large lunch. Your dp can make their own dinner.
It’s probably not nutritious but as you say possibly better than takeout. Although very high in sugar.

Spudley13 · 04/11/2020 16:08

I make rice pudding for dinner quite often! Especially in the winter.

Annasgirl · 04/11/2020 16:09

You are taking me back. Way back before DC, and before DH and I were married, I ate at work, he ate at work and I had Rice pudding for dinner (2-3 times a week!!!!). I commuted 3 hours per day and worked long hours - the last thing I wanted to do after a 14 hour day was cook!!!

I ate it while watching "Charmed" - now you can guess my ageGrin.

Crappyfridays7 · 04/11/2020 16:09

I love a bit of rice pudding and have it for dinner too occasionally
I’m a grown up and I if that’s what I’d like then I’ll have it
Fancy some now actually

HedgehogintheFog · 04/11/2020 16:25

Enough replies now to tell DP he is WRONG! He can order his Domino's pizza (yuck!) and I will have my rice pudding.

However, whilst investigating the supply of tinned fruit (an optional extra), I have now found an equally sugary recently-expired sachet of Oats-so-Simple (goodness knows where/when from because we never buy it) and I am slightly tempted to have that instead.

Call it risotto and you’re fine!

InFlagranteDerelicto · 04/11/2020 17:30

I would definitely have rice pudding for dinner. I don't like the tinned kind, it's too sweet, but I'd eat homemade (mainly because I like to make mine very dark & chocolatey...)

GellerYeller · 04/11/2020 17:35

Tinned Rice pudding is a meal! Especially if you're under the weather. Golden syrup for me please. Also a fan of porridge for lunch especially on Mondays when the heating in the office has been off all weekend and it's sub-baltic.

Disappointedkoala · 04/11/2020 17:59

I'm jealous. I'd love some rice pudding right now.

MitziK · 04/11/2020 18:04

It's Risotto with milk and sugar. Risotto's a dinner, right?

MajorMujer · 04/11/2020 18:07

When DH used to have to go away with work for 1 week every year I had tinned Semolina for dinner at least once In the week Wink

grassisjeweled · 04/11/2020 18:08

Totally fine.

Continue

grassisjeweled · 04/11/2020 18:09

It's basically porridge

MissSmiley · 04/11/2020 18:09

Sometimes I just have wine and crisps!
Have what you want

TheChosenTwo · 04/11/2020 18:10

Oh don’t, you’ve just reminded me I’m having papa johns tonight (that and dominos are really the worst takeaway pizza options!) Grin
Enjoy your tinned rice pudding OP, the thought of eating it makes me heave but if you enjoy it, fill your face - and very little washing up!!

Fruitloopcowabunga · 04/11/2020 18:19

My dad used to give us tinned rice pudding for breakfast if mum was working weekends. It's like a bowl of cereal only cooked, isn't it? Go for it!

Crankley · 04/11/2020 19:19

I wouldn't eat tinned rice pudding but make my own. It does take a couple of hours but its worth it for the nutmeggy crust. Yum.

Eat what you fancy.

Bloodybridget · 04/11/2020 19:22

Mmm, home-made rice pudding, I love it! Must put pudding rice on the shopping list. YANBU to have it for dinner.

FatGirlShrinking · 04/11/2020 19:27

I wanted rice pudding tonight but none in the cupboard so had a little pot of chocolate ambrosia custard instead.

Rice pudding with a blob of strawberry jam would have gone down a treat though.

LustigLustig · 04/11/2020 19:35

I'm with you all the way! We often have rice pudding (or pancakes) for a meal.

fishonabicycle · 04/11/2020 19:38

Sounds good! I just had some roasted chestnuts for dinner a couple of weeks ago.

Saz12 · 04/11/2020 19:39

YABVU as I really want some now but don’t have any in the house.

Deereamer · 04/11/2020 19:40

I’m surprised that nobody has mentioned ham yet? Perfectly fine to have for tea if you’re having a big dollop of strawberry jam with it Grin

Deereamer · 04/11/2020 19:41

Jam!!!! Not ham Blush
