to have rice pudding for dinner

The tinned sort. Not everyday, but occasionally, if (like today) I've had a big lunch and I don't fancy cooking. I say it's carb and protein and no worse than a takeaway pizza (in fact I think better in terms of fat content). DP disagrees.

I agree with a PP - it's a risotto in a creamy sauce...Grin
Needs a blob of jam on it.

MrsClatterbuck · 04/11/2020 19:46

When we have had our main meal at lunch time its every man for himself at tea time. Dh will make maybe a sandwich or maybe heat some sausage rolls. I will make a sandwich or heat a tin of soup.
Though we both love rice pudding and I buy one not in a tin but in the chill cabinet called Rachel's.
Always bought it in 2 individual pots but have now discovered they do large pots as well.

Know I should make my own as my mum used to make rice pudding all the time growing up with golden syrup and sultanas along with grated nutmeg on the top. We had this for our supper!!!!

MiddlesexGirl · 04/11/2020 20:12

Home made rice pudding and I'm with you. It's very very easy to make.
But both are more nutritious than Domino's (not difficult!).

HaveeeeYouMetTed · 04/11/2020 20:25

Rice pudding with jam 😋 yum yum!

honkytonkheroe · 04/11/2020 20:27

I sometimes have rice crispies! Grin

LucillevsLowkee · 04/11/2020 20:30

I genuinely don't understand how it's even a question. Why on earth wouldn't you?

You can have pizza for breakfast and an apple for diner. You can do anything you want, it wouldn't even be weird or unhealthy Confused

LucillevsLowkee · 04/11/2020 20:31

@honkytonkheroe

I do that a lot! Too late to think about cooking, hungry since lunch, I love rice crispies for diner
Holothane · 04/11/2020 20:31

You carry On I’m full of head cold so I just wanted a chicken cuppa soup with bread.

AlfieandAnnieRose · 04/11/2020 20:32

Love rice pudding! I’ve recently discovered an Aldi one in the chilled section, has a layer of nutmeg on it. Tastes amazing cooked in the oven.

imarocketman50 · 04/11/2020 20:35

I sometimes have a sachet of uncle bens tomato rice with some grated cheese on top. Two mins in the microwave and I have a tasty dinner.

DressingGownofDoom · 04/11/2020 20:38

@HedgehogintheFog

Enough replies now to tell DP he is WRONG! He can order his Domino's pizza (yuck!) and I will have my rice pudding.

However, whilst investigating the supply of tinned fruit (an optional extra), I have now found an equally sugary recently-expired sachet of Oats-so-Simple (goodness knows where/when from because we never buy it) and I am slightly tempted to have that instead.

His pizza is probably costing about £20 while your tin of Ambrosja is what, about a pound? Half that if you get Tesco own brand. Win Grin

Go for it!

I was off last week and made a hot meal every night for 8 nights. Sick of eating and so is the test of the family.

So tonight we all did our own thing and i gad a tin of peaches. It was fresh, light and lovely.

Smile3 · 04/11/2020 21:09

Grin ham!

MrsClatterbuck · 04/11/2020 21:57

My mil couldn't understand DH and I when we mentioned we were going to have fish and chips for our Sunday dinner and not roast meat, roast potatoes, 2 veg and gravy.

Redbirds · 04/11/2020 22:06

I fancy making a rice pudding tomorrow now ( for tea!) has anyone got a good recipe?

polkadotpixie · 04/11/2020 22:08

I quite often have rice pudding for dinner when DH isn't around. I mix it with jam yum 😋

Dobbyismyfavourite · 04/11/2020 22:10

You are definitely NBU especially if you add a dollop of raspberry jam!

Dixiechickonhols · 04/11/2020 22:17

I make rice pudding most weeks in slow cooker. It’s ideal for breakfast or a lighter meal. There’s a good full sugar recipe on bbc good food. I do SlimmingWorld version - 140g pudding rice, 1 litre unsweetened almond milk on high 3 hours stir a few times. I add stuff after it has cooked eg fruit, cinnamon or sweet freedom caramel syrup. I did a nice chai rice pudding in slow cooker last week recipe is from pinch of nom.

ISpeakBecauseICan · 06/11/2020 20:42

Excellent choice, I love rice pudding!

JovialNickname · 06/11/2020 22:58

YANBU but only if you eat it cold, straight out of the tin, with a big spoon.

Love51 · 06/11/2020 23:07

When I was pregnant I ate a lot of rice pudding, the 15p a can variety. Iy was 8 years ago and I haven't touched it since. However, if I was craving it when pregnant there must be something nutritious in there!

WantANewHome · 07/11/2020 00:58

You are being unreasonable if you don't put jam on it.

eaglejulesk · 07/11/2020 01:32

I love home made rice pudding, but can never get mine to taste like Mum's did so I stick to tinned. YANBU, it's perfectly fine for dinner, in fact anything you feel like eating is fine!
