If things open back up In December, will you be taking your kids on Christmas days out?

Such as theme parks done up for Xmas, safari parks, Father Christmas visits, holidays even?

Yes!

OoohTheStatsDontLie · 04/11/2020 10:56

Not anything inside with contact with other kids. I think even though it might be allowed, its irresponsible to let an age group who are rubbish at social distancing and most likely to be asymptomatic, mix with others, when we are still in the grip of a pandemic and apart from health issues, so many people are worried for their jobs etc. Santa and 'Christmas experience' things can wait til next year (I personally find a lot of the experiences a bit over the top anyway). I'd maybe do something outside like a light show in a park or something if it looked like it was set up in a sensible way

Viv0321 · 04/11/2020 10:58

Still counting- where would you be going?

OP posts:
nevermorelenore · 04/11/2020 10:59

Yes. They're mostly in garden centres, which are staying open even in lockdown, zoos, and outdoor attractions anyway. If they run, I'll take the kids.

AnneLovesGilbert · 04/11/2020 10:59

No

AriesTheRam · 04/11/2020 11:02

Yes! Hopefully to the winter illuminations at Yorkshire Wildlife Park which is 5 mins drive away

Bickles · 04/11/2020 11:09

Yes. We only have a couple of things booked- local Stately home which is decorated for Christmas and a Christmas trail with Santa visit which is outside.
We’ll probably go to the garden centre to look at the Christmas stuff.
In fact I’ve just booked entry to a local NT type place for a walk and playground for Saturday- we’re members, it’s all outside and it’s close enough for travel to exercise.

popcorndiva · 04/11/2020 11:09

Yep hopeful for the Christmas Trail at Dunham Massey. We booked for late December, as we loved it last year

ShulaArcher · 04/11/2020 11:10

No. We're hunkering down for the winter. Other than school, it'll just be country walks, online shopping and not seeing family until Spring. we may kill each other

See you on the other side!

EatDessertFirst · 04/11/2020 11:12

We have ice skating booked for Boxing Day. I haven't told the DC yet in case it gets cancelled.

DioneTheDiabolist · 04/11/2020 11:19

I can't see how Santa visits could happen with social distancing and I dont think our Continental Christmas market is going ahead. It will be interesting to see what else is on offer.

Ignoringequally · 04/11/2020 11:23

I have a mainly outdoor winter wonderland type experience booked for the 6th December at a local attraction.
If it is allowed to go ahead then I will go, not least because I paid £65 for tickets for all of us.

Viv0321 · 04/11/2020 11:37

Lapland uk is open in December for Father Christmas. Anyone going?

OP posts:
Boom45 · 04/11/2020 11:41

We won't be sitting on Father Christmas knee but other than that ill get out and about as much as I can.

unmarkedbythat · 04/11/2020 11:41

No. TBH we don't usually do much of that anyway though!

TheDowagerDuchessofMwwwahaha · 04/11/2020 11:42

Outdoor type things like Christmas trails I will.

Haven’t booked Santa and won’t be doing that.

Hiccupiscal · 04/11/2020 11:43

Yes, we have 2 big activities planned and I have my fingers crossed that they will go ahead.

adag · 04/11/2020 11:44

I have grotto and two Christmas light walks booked... desperate to do them - if they are happening, we'll go.

caperplips · 04/11/2020 11:45

No, we don't do those days out anyway and dc too old now one way or the other, but we never did even when younger.

I'm not in the UK but am in lockdown right now. We're hoping it will lift in December and we plan to visit another city to do some shopping and to get away from our own house, perhaps even overnight if possible. We'll see.

If it seems too risky we're happy to stay put for the moment and indulge in online shopping instead.

FilthyforFirth · 04/11/2020 11:49

Christmas at Kew is booked for late Dec. Hoping to still go as its outside. I had hoped for a Santa visit but I think this is less likely. Gutted as DS is 3.5 this year so 'gets it' for the first time.

Tootletum · 04/11/2020 11:56

Yep sure.

Vanillaradio · 04/11/2020 12:00

Yes. We've two booked (train ride and theme park visit) so fingers crossed (both have option to rebook for next year if they don't go ahead).

LindaEllen · 04/11/2020 12:00

Absolutely we will go if things are open.
This year would also have been the first year I could go to our local Christmas markets, and I'm almost certain they'll be cancelled (or at least scaled down and more difficult to get tickets for than they normally are) so I suppose that's not to be!
If it makes a difference, we've had covid already. Obviously we're still careful as there's a small chance you can get it again, but we're not living in fear.

aToadOnTheWhole · 04/11/2020 12:02

Yes. I booked an outdoor santa visit/day out and an outdoor light walk in the basis that they were outside and social distancing was a given. (I paid for the cancellation insurance just in case, and haven't told DS about either).

Ihaveyourback · 04/11/2020 12:04

Absolutely!

We have a woodland christmas lights trail booked, illuminations outside at local castle and panto booked so far. Intend to also go iceskating, skiing at dry slope and have xmas sleepover with one other friend (in bubble) when we can - even if it is outside with heaters running into a tent!

NO way is covid taking our christmas away as well.

Enough misery already from one year. The house will look like a grotto this year too, I am not doing tasteful I have decided!
