To wonder how men and woman actors do sex scenes?

Ok hear me out, I know it's their job but I'm speaking about the very raunchy sex scenes in films where you see the the male is flaccid.

I would have thought that those type of scenes would excite them and wonder if this has happened.

Bare with me I've got insomnia and this is my thought of the night but I would love to hear your opinions about this.

@B1rthis

Am I right in thinking that every lockdown means that actors, musicians, directors, make up artists, camera crew, lighting team, sound engineers etc are furloughed? So no sex scene worries but just huge money worries?
No, filming is going ahead this time. Within Covid guidelines, of course.
vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 03/11/2020 09:21

I'm a FB group for partners of people with a particular condition. Bloke appears, said The Usual Guff with lots of detail about what he missed about accessing his wife's body. Bunch of women cooing over him being so brave for sharing. I added "some men get a thrill from detailing their sexual fantasies and having them read by women. It is a fetish. It's also very boring". He left the group, we don't miss him.

I have sons and a male partner - haven't noticed them needing congratulating for having an erection yet.

It's just odd that so many men want a wee round of applause for having sexual urges, like, you know, every adult.

Peculiar.

Even if I had to wear a pouch and couldn’t get a stiffie there’s a few female leads I wouldn’t mind doing a sex scene with!
Really? You actually thought that was an appropriate thing to say? Confused
thatonehasalittlecar · 03/11/2020 09:25

@B1rthis

Unfortunately, you are wrong. Almost all the creative industries work on a freelance basis, so the vast majority of the actors, crew etc won’t be furloughed, they just can’t work. A huge number are not eligible for any government support at all - the ‘forgotten freelancers’. It’s a total farce, especially given how much money the creative industries add to GDP.

But it’s ok, we can all retrain in cyber Hmm

Anotherblokelurking · 03/11/2020 09:26

Apologies for the misplaced humour I’ll have it deleted.

Noitjustwontdo · 03/11/2020 09:28

I also think the Love Actually scenes depicted it well. I bet it’s awkward rather than sexy, there’s a big crew around you and cameras in your face.

I know in the indie film Nymphomaniac Shia LaBeouf and his now wife Mia Goth did actually have sex though.

DrGachet · 03/11/2020 09:30

According to Lawrence Fox, he got into acting because he liked the idea of being able to creep on "leading ladies". He's very miffed now that sex scenes are choreographed, he much preferred it when he could go at it freestyle and do what he liked. yuk

Even if I had to wear a pouch and couldn’t get a stiffie there’s a few female leads I wouldn’t mind doing a sex scene with! Is this you Lozza?

I think you'll find MNHQ will be deleting it for you.

And hopefully escorting you off the site.

I read that Emilia Clarke said while her and Jason Mamoa were filming their first sex scene in GoT, instead of wearing a flesh coloured covering he wore a bright pink fluffy one to make her laugh. Love that guy
I love him even more now ❤️

Thing is, bloke, it wasn't even humour. It was what I expect from silly immature 13 year old spotty youths who haven't yet learned that boasting about their lust is simply not a manly thing to do. But a grown man? No. The majority of us experience lust; you describing yours is a) boring and b) not remotely amusing.

Yes rewrite history and pretend it never happened. Hmm
StayAlertIndoorz · 03/11/2020 09:42

It must be strange though. I understand sex scenes are so choreographed they’re not always a turn-on and are ‘work’. But how do you disassociate enough as an actor to go in for a full-on snog (that is obviously done for real) - kissing is so intimate I just reckon it must be a draw for people who want to get a chance to snog someone else consequence free. I mean imagine being Charlotte Riley (who’s married to Tom Hardy) full-on snogging Cillian Murphy in Peaky Blinders and being semi-nude in scenes. How weird is that?! And y’know you can’t mock up sucking a woman’s breasts when you can clearly see it’s not a body double (not saying that happened in Peaky Blinders as I can’t remember the details) How the hell do you do that and then look them or their partner in the eye afterwards while your queuing for your lunch at the catering truck?! I’ve always thought actors are a strange lot Grin

Sparklingbrook · 03/11/2020 09:46

It was quite funny that in Normal People they managed to have lots of sex without him once touching her breasts. I am guessing the discussion they had as to what was ok and not meant it had to be that way and good for her if she could specify.

I wonder what it's like to have to snog a complete stranger and be filmed too, and yes especially when you are not single. How odd for your partner.

LoganRoy · 03/11/2020 09:47

I have heard an actor say this, essentially you get the chance to “try out someone new” type of comment but I can’t remember who it was.

I remember Alex Kingston saying on Graham Norton she had to kiss someone in a play and he kept trying to put his tongue in so she bit his tongue and the next day he came in lisping slightly!

It wasn’t that bad. If it was a woman saying that about male actors, no one would bat an eyelid, I’ve seen far worse comments on here. Mumsnet has become very anti men lately
Sparklingbrook · 03/11/2020 09:51

MN is anti men making stupid comments. The comment added nothing to the discussion and was misplaced.

She talks about it on a Graham Norton appearance. She makes a comment along the lines of 'its big and it's pink and it's coming right at me' or something along those lines, before realising what she's said and looking horrified Grin

Poppyismyfavourite · 03/11/2020 10:07

I knew someone who made costumes for TV dramas and she said she had to make some of the "sex cushions" (her words) - thin flesh coloured cushions, which are shaped especially for that angle/shot/position, and go in betwen the two actors' privates!

alittleprivacy · 03/11/2020 10:33

My husband worked in tv/film and I spent a good bit of time socialising with the casts and crews of some of the more tight knit productions he worked on. Through that I can see why so many on screen couples end up having affairs. You'd see it regularly with actors who play couples and at the start of the production the have a normal relationship with each other, the same as with anyone else on the production. But bit by bit their physical intimacy increased. It became normal for them to touch each other, hold hands, lay their head on the other's shoulder while sitting next to each other. The normal physical barriers we put up with almost everyone had been broken down. And this was on shows/movies that didn't even have much by way of sex scenes. But lots of scenes of coupley behaviour, cuddled up on a couch together, handholding, some hugging and kissing. They just developed a physical shorthand with each other that was like that people in a long term relationship share. They didn't all end up having affairs (that I know of) but they did develop an intimacy that still existed outside of shooting scenes and it was easy to see how it would feel natural to take it further if they weren't strongly on guard against it.

Fuckin hell. Just had a look, you’re right. Sad bastard
WootMoggie · 03/11/2020 10:48

I wonder why onscreen kissing sounds so loud and sloppy

Because it's fake sound created by foley artists manipulating everyday objects. When people are shagging on-screen the sound is e.g. made by (and this is a real example) someone rubbing their arm close to the microphone.

Kissing is most likely someone kissing and licking the back of their own hand.
