To wonder how men and woman actors do sex scenes?

Ok hear me out, I know it's their job but I'm speaking about the very raunchy sex scenes in films where you see the the male is flaccid.

I would have thought that those type of scenes would excite them and wonder if this has happened.

Bare with me I've got insomnia and this is my thought of the night but I would love to hear your opinions about this.

@Anotherblokelurking Jesus that put me off my breakfast.

Gin4thewin · 03/11/2020 08:10

Theon grey joys 1st sex scene in GOT where he was with Ros, he 'finished' pulled back (full willy shot) and he was completely flaccid. I always wondered how the actors react to an accidental semi while filming

Guineapigbridge · 03/11/2020 08:23

This was a very worthwhile thread Grin

ThistleWitch · 03/11/2020 08:28

@Anotherblokelurking

Even if I had to wear a pouch and couldn’t get a stiffie there’s a few female leads I wouldn’t mind doing a sex scene with!
Yoi really think mumsnet is the right audience for this kind of remark?
ThistleWitch · 03/11/2020 08:28

I’m sure the feeling is not mutual.

Ugh.

Mummyoflittledragon · 03/11/2020 08:32

This really needs to be shown to porn lovers

Having seen a documentary about a porn star couple, where the journalist / presenter was in the room whilst filming took place, the comparison is chalk and cheese. Lots of all over body lube and actual sex.

SinkGirl · 03/11/2020 08:35

Theatre is way worse for this. I have quite a few actor friends who would rather film a sex scene than perform one on stage.

EggyPegg · 03/11/2020 08:37

Brilliant thread. Thanks to the contributors who have revealed what happens on these sets (pun intended).
Reported the grim comment upthread.

dottiedodah · 03/11/2020 08:41

I remember Daniel Radcliffe saying when he was doing a play that required him to be naked .that he wanted the set to be as cold as possible to avoid any "excitement" from rising up!

IDontMindMarmite · 03/11/2020 08:42

Interesting thread topic.
I don't often see the men on mumsnet being super creepy so was surprised by anotherblokelurking, what a cheesy prick.

I think seeing sex in the title may have made them think they were back in the Sex Topic maybe?
Trumanshow · 03/11/2020 08:53

I watched a programme on this once!! They have a coach to explain how to stage things..they have special underwear and padded barriers to slip between the actors..loads of other things. Was a really interesting programme as I've always wondered the same!!

FranklySonImTheGaffer · 03/11/2020 08:55

I was talking about this to DH the other day. We were watching The Americans where the 2 leads are a couple in RL and they had a sex scene.

I know if the 2 actors are just colleagues, they can just take direction etc but I wonder if it's more difficult not to get 'excited' if it's your actual partner you're with?

The mechanics of filming boggles my brain a bit (everything from the details that go into the sets, how they film things out of order but don't get lost, to how they stage sex scenes).

Sparklingbrook · 03/11/2020 08:58

I would think it being your partner would be way worse.

NativityDreaming · 03/11/2020 09:00

Plenty of mainstream actors have said that they did get aroused whilst filming a sex scene. Most seem to say they apologise and try to find ways to keep from it happening in future.

missmouse101 · 03/11/2020 09:02

I've bared with you OP but it's quite chilly.

Redburnett · 03/11/2020 09:04

Thank you for the link Sparklingbrook.
It is very interesting reading, especially the guidelines.
I have just finished watching Normal People and I too had wondered about the filming of the sex scenes.

JaffaCake70 · 03/11/2020 09:05

@DeKraai

This needs to shown to porn lovers - maybe it'll quell the desire somewhat to know how unsexy it really is.

You seem to have a high opinion of porn lovers. They know women could be non-consenting and still watch it. They see women gagging and having tears in their eyes and still watch it. I doubt they could give a toss 😉 about the filming technique.

They also know those women could be underage, trafficked, abused, drug addicts etc etc.

I also doubt they would give a toss about filming technique.

Am I right in thinking that every lockdown means that actors, musicians, directors, make up artists, camera crew, lighting team, sound engineers etc are furloughed?
So no sex scene worries but just huge money worries?

Sparklingbrook · 03/11/2020 09:08

Yes Paul Mescal (Connell) said he spent a lot of time 'locked out above Daisy Edgar Jones (Marianne) shaking and really sweating' and it was the least sexy thing ever. But watching it you would never know as it looks so real and believable. It sounds like intimacy coordinators are the way forward. It made me wonder about some of the 80s films I watched where I guess it was just 'action!' and they had to just get on with it.
vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 03/11/2020 09:09

There's a thread on FWR about the men who use MN for advice/emotional labour.

I think Anotherblokelurking has proved her point.

Bore off, blokie.

Sparklingbrook · 03/11/2020 09:15

It does give me the creeps how many men there are in the Sex Topic telling everyone what their wife likes and excitedly sharing details etc.

WhosThatGirl89 · 03/11/2020 09:18

I read that Emilia Clarke said while her and Jason Mamoa were filming their first sex scene in GoT, instead of wearing a flesh coloured covering he wore a bright pink fluffy one to make her laugh. Love that guy

CandyLeBonBon · 03/11/2020 09:18

Bare with me
Said the director to the actor!
