To put red wine in quorn bolognaise?

Confusedknitter · 02/11/2020 17:57

My DM says that there’s no point because red wine only tastes nice mixed in with beef mince bolognaise. She says it is wasted with quorn mince and better to drink it instead.
I think I can drink it AND put it in the bolognaise.
What do you think?

I add wine to Quorn Bolognese all the time - tastes great!

Allywill · 02/11/2020 18:00

Are you doing it as a veggie dish? Not all red wines are suitable for vegetarians/vegans.

OneofPansPeople · 02/11/2020 18:02

I think you have the right idea OP Wine

I like to make red lentil Bolognese with red wine in it. Mmmm 🍝

Confusedknitter · 02/11/2020 18:06

It is vegetarian but we’re not strict when it comes to wine.
I’m a fledgling cook so didnmt want to ruin it, but glad that so far my instincts are being confirmed Grin

@Cyberworrier Post the recipe. Now!!!

sluj · 02/11/2020 18:09

Have you tried Quorn before? If not, just be aware that a lot of people have a bad allergic reaction to it, including me. I would just recommend the wine by itself Grin

Scarlettpixie · 02/11/2020 18:11

Wine is great in sauces snd gravies. Yes to adding it to a quorn bolognaise.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 02/11/2020 18:12

Quorn is essentially tasteless. Put the whole bottle in!

SpeccyLime · 02/11/2020 18:14

Yanbu, I do it all the time. Gives it that lovely sour depth, regardless of the protein.

megletthesecond · 02/11/2020 18:14

Yanbu. I always do.

DaphneFanshaw · 02/11/2020 18:14

I’m not the biggest fan of quorn tbh, I doubt that red wine could do anything bad to it though.
I love the sound of red wine and lentils though.

BlackboardMonitorVimes · 02/11/2020 18:21

Personally I prefer getting the dried soya mince and soaking it in red wine and stock before cooking. Tastes lovely.

Derbee · 02/11/2020 18:30

Quorn absorbs wine very nicely. Definitely put it in

KarmaStar · 02/11/2020 18:33

If it's not a vegetarian wine what's the point of using quorn?
If it is,then try it!🐱

Thanks for the tip

The dish will be using far less animal produce than using beef. Every swap is good. It doesn’t have to be all or nothing.

Trailing1 · 02/11/2020 18:49

I must try doing this!

gnushoes · 02/11/2020 18:57

I've done soya lasagne a few times - chuck all the flavours at it you can, red wine included. Shit tons of herbs, salt, pepper, stock, tomato puree...

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 02/11/2020 19:01

'I think I can drink it AND put it in the bolognaise.'

Of course you can - you just need two bottles.

DontTouchTheMoustache · 02/11/2020 19:01

It enhances the sauce not the beef, go nuts!

Why does it matter if it’s not vegetarian wine? People can choose to eat Quorn even if they’re not strict vegetarians.
Pesimistic · 02/11/2020 19:06

I personally dont like red wine in my quorn bolognaise however I do like the idea of another posters lentil bolognaise with red wine

CorianderLord · 02/11/2020 19:17

I usually put white wine in, works fine. It adds to the flavour of the sauce and veg.

PurpleDaisies · 02/11/2020 19:18

Marmite is the best thing to add.
