Aibu to find hotel stays overrated?

Dp has arranged a night in a hotel tonight, we've had a lovely day child free. Walked along the coast, it's really been lovely.

But aibu to just want my own bed? I don't really understand nights away in a hotel.

The hotel is nice, but I really don't want to hear the next room's occupants shagging or their tv through their walls whilst squeezed into a tiny double bed with dp.
Trying not to be ungrateful but I can't help but think how nice it would be to be in my child free home.

Honestly sounds like a bad choice of hotel

heartshapedfaces · 31/10/2020 23:15

you need a better hotel

blueshoes · 31/10/2020 23:16

If it is just dh and I, we would consider a hotel but actually, we prefer a cottage or self-catering as it gives more space, privacy and flexibility.

DianaT1969 · 31/10/2020 23:17

I've had the privilege of staying in top hotels. Love it! I miss travelling. I'd love a job inspecting hotels.

RonObvious · 31/10/2020 23:19

I love staying in hotels. But prefer it on my own - there’s something wonderful about having space that you know nobody is going to invade. Plus, there’s the breakfasts.

throwaway100000 · 31/10/2020 23:21

I agree. I used to (pre-Covid) travel for work a lot. It was fun living a “jet setting” lifestyle but the novelty soon wore off!

user1487194234 · 31/10/2020 23:23

Your choice but it does sound like you need a better class of hotel
We go away at least 4 times a year (pre COVID) and I love it

JeanneFrench · 31/10/2020 23:24

Love hotels, alone or with partner or friends. Running a shower I don't have to clean, showering for as long as I want, using all the towels I want, just generally loafing around, shutting the door and shutting out the world. No distractions, no obligations. Big, comfortable bed with super crisp, stiff sheets. Love!

fleapriest · 31/10/2020 23:26

It's a four star hotel with great tripadvisor ratings!

Just unlucky with the next door neighbours I guess.

That, and at home we have a super king sized bed which is like sleeping on a cloud

I am 100% with you. Ok I am a bad sleeper so the idea of a forced night of hotel "romance" and all the trimmings sets my nerves on end. I think I should enjoy it, but never do.

Mumbum2011 · 31/10/2020 23:41

Yeah you need a Better hotel! I love a trip away. Not waking up in your own bed with kids to tend to or jobs you think you should be doing is bliss :-)

TheDogsMother · 01/11/2020 00:03

We finally managed to get married yesterday and the venue's associated hotel gave us a suite for the night. Not perhaps the usual style I would choose but it was such a treat, the bed was like a wonderful cloud, loads of fabulous shampoo/conditioners/lotions in the bathroom. and full English breakfast prepared for us. Absolutely lovely 😊

2pinkginsplease · 01/11/2020 00:07

WHen you have teenagers who survive on very little sleep a wee overnight stay in a hotel is bliss, dh and I love a wee night away, dinner and breakfast made and a night to ourselves!

Sparklesocks · 01/11/2020 00:09

I think it depends on the hotel.

A noisy, high traffic hotel full of people with thin walls and crappy beds? Awful. I once stayed in a reasonably priced hotel in Bristol for a wedding not knowing it was popular with partygoers and people booking rooms to go back to after a night out. It was non stop noise and shouting, I had to call reception at 3am because I heard a woman crying hysterically and was worried she was hurt (she was just drunk and had lost some expensive jewellery on her night out!). They even had a standard late check out fee because so many guests were hungover in the mornings and missed it.

But a quiet hotel, with a huge comfy bed and no sign of others guests? Heavenly. I stayed in one recently with my partner which only had a few other guests (midweek). It had a huge copper bath and an enormous bed. A dream!

Notcontent · 01/11/2020 00:11

I agree that even in a top rated hotel you can sometimes get unlucky with your room and have noisy people in the next room etc. I prefer to be at home unless it’s a really amazing hotel!

Maskedcrusader · 01/11/2020 00:13

I love a good hotel stay over. A lovely room with a bath big enough for 2. Have lots of sex & then watch a movie in bed & order room service. More sex before sleep. Perfect

fleapriest · 01/11/2020 00:13

We have 4dc at home between 7 and 12 years so this in theory is a massive treat.
I thought it would be nice not to have to empty the dishwasher or feel like I should put on a wash and be organise.

Now I just want my own bed and my coffee machine in the morning.

They are still at it now 😩 shes definitely faking!

We have a massage booked for 10am tomorrow morning so are up early (ish) for breakfast. So no sleep in either.

I'm so tempted to be a massive bitch and leave my phone next to their wall with the alarm blaring while I'm eating breakfast

I don’t get the ‘hotel as destination in itself’ thing. For me, they’re places to stay when I’m far enough away that I can’t get home at night, even the very luxurious kind.

fleapriest · 01/11/2020 00:14

@TheDogsMother congratulations!!!!

I love love LOVE a hotel stay, different strokes for different folks! I'm lucky to have stayed in some gorgeous hotels for work, some far nicer than I'd ever be able to afford for a holiday.

Big comfy bed (we have a double at home so a king is a huge bonus), snuggly robes, a bathroom I don't have to clean myself and room service. What's not to love?

Ginfordinner · 01/11/2020 00:19

The beds in the last few hotels I have stayed in were all king sized at least. Even Premier Inn double rooms have king sized beds.

Yippeeforme · 01/11/2020 00:41

I hate hotels tbh. The air con never seems to do what I tell it to, so the room is always too hot or too cold, or the thing is too bloody loud. I miss being able to just open a window or stick on some heating and a blanket. I can't stand listening to the neighbouring guests shagging, makes me nauseous. And I hate getting up early on holiday to get breakfast, and then having to sit in a noisy crowd to eat it.

A self-catering cottage is my favourite kind of accommodation, and a camper van is a close second. Sometimes during a holiday I just need a day or two to do nothing at all, and I don't find hotel rooms very nice places to hang out for an entire day. I'd much rather have a little "home away from home" to potter about in.

grassisjeweled · 01/11/2020 00:45

Definitely leave your phone beeping in the morning.

raspberryk · 01/11/2020 01:05

It doesnt sound like you’re in a particularly good hotel, not all 4 star are great, I’ve also learned some people’s standards who write reviews are extremely low.

MrsToothyBitch · 01/11/2020 01:07

Love a hotel stay. If you can hear all the stuff described in your OP, you're not in the right hotel.
