Please don't moan that i'm selfish for wanting these things, just want to know if they'll be going ahead/open or not.

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 31/10/2020 17:37

You'll just have to wait then.

Sargass0 · 31/10/2020 17:45

How is Mumsnet supposed to know before the announcement?

Lockheart · 31/10/2020 17:47

Let me check my crystal ball.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 31/10/2020 17:48

What I can’t understand is if they do close them what was the point in them making themselves Covid secure just to close again? Especially when places like hairdressers are unlikely to be where the cases are coming from

JacobReesMogadishu · 31/10/2020 17:48

According to the leaks it'll be the same as March apart from education. So likely all shut.

JacobReesMogadishu · 31/10/2020 17:49

And I agree its annoying when they are Covid secure and the stats show they're not adding to infection rates

DOINGOURBIT · 31/10/2020 17:51

Incredibly irritating post. Wait and see like the rest of the population. What's the point of asking or speculating?

Lockheart · 31/10/2020 17:51

True, but the idea will be to shut down all possible places where the virus could spread - regardless of whether it's a high risk venue or not.

It's not that the virus won't spread in hairdressers or before 10pm or only if you're eating with your pint, it's that each shutdown means one less route for the virus to spread through.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 31/10/2020 17:52

@Lockheart I understand that but it just seems a monumental waste of time these places putting in the procedures they have to be Covid secure, many will not survive another lockdown

cologne4711 · 31/10/2020 17:53

Not even that, it just gives people less to go out for, so they stay at home. Has a single person caught covid from a swimming pool for example? I bet they will be closed though, just to stop people going out.

Heyahun · 31/10/2020 17:53

These questions today on every other thread ffs

Just wait for the bloody announcement that’s to come that will tell you

We can’t tell you

doctorhamster · 31/10/2020 17:54

There's absolutely no point in speculating op, no one can give you the answer.

cologne4711 · 31/10/2020 17:54

I agree about the waste of time with making places covid secure, too.

People have said that the cases were already dropping in March because of banning mass gatherings, encouraging working from home etc even before the lockdown was announced. We have far more in place now, so why isn't it working now?

iklboogeymum · 31/10/2020 17:55

But keeping schools, colleges & universities open? Where is the sense in that? They're not 'bubbles' - especially if you have children at different schools, parents are teachers in different schools etc. Children are more likely to be super spreaders.

Lockheart · 31/10/2020 17:58

Because education is more vital a service than perming and highlighting.

You shut down everything else you can in order to keep the essentials of your society running first - pubs, clothes shops etc.

Only if it becomes absolutely dire should you start shutting down education and other public services.

cologne4711 · 31/10/2020 17:58

Because getting an education is 1000 times more important than going for a haircut or getting your nails done.

The government have been ignoring scientific advice for ages and dreaming up compromise policies instead.

So the “point” was balancing economics with health. But that is failing now.

PenguinIce · 31/10/2020 17:59

I assume they will all be closed again. Although it is only minor in the scheme of things I am disappointed that my dd’s driving test in December will prob be cancelled after having to wait so long for it (as they haven’t managed to clear the backlog of tests from the last lockdown).

We've been waiting for the announcement for bloody hours! No wonder people are speculating. Had time to book in the kids' haircuts before hairdresser's close again.
IrkedEssex · 31/10/2020 18:02

Shutting down everywhere that is Covid secure is going to be counter-productive, I think. Being able to go somewhere like a restaurant where you could at least see other human beings living a vaguely normal life was a huge pleasure. And, certainly round here, the venues were all being very careful not to allow mixing. Now the only place people can see others is in a domestic setting, which is the one setting we are constantly told is the worst for spreading. And yes, it may be illegal, but people will crack, and people know they can't send the police round everyone's house every hour.

iklboogeymum · 31/10/2020 18:04

I'm not arsed about hair cuts or nails. But DH is self employed and another lockdown will hit us hard. Along with many, many others.

letmethinkaboutitfornow · 31/10/2020 18:04

I would keep everything open
No lockdown, no further restrictions
Any vulnerable can shield if they wish so

I’m done with making sacrifices

ilikebooksandplants · 31/10/2020 18:08

The responses you are getting are a bit fucking dopey, OP. I want to know this info too!

Fair enough if the bloody announcement was actually on time. But it was meant to be at 4pm. It’s now gone 6pm! It’s disgraceful that they’re leaking things and can’t even be bothered to turn up on time to tell us we’re all about to face financial ruin. Fucking amateur hour, as usual with this bloody government.

I’m no Boris fan, but you do realise he didn’t do the leaking or want the leaking? He is a leakee not a leaker.

kezziethecat · 31/10/2020 18:13

From what has been leaked I'm guessing not to all of those. Pretty sure they want this to be a really strict lockdown so nothing but essential shops and schools and building/manufacturing. Who knows though?!
