To ignore the door to trick or treaters

It's been advised in our area trick or treating is not allowed, we are in tier 3 and I believe you get fined if caught doing so, I'm normally the sort to buys loads of sweets love answering the door to trick or treaters as it's something I never did as a child, but this year I've bought nothing nor have I put any decorations up due to current restrictions and am not taking dc trick or treating, however my neighbours have a Facebook group and someone had posted today saying they are still trick or treating as all the kids play out together anyway, almost everyone agreed, but I haven't bought any sweets for the kids! AIBU to ignore the door if they knock on?

Tier 3 here too, we took our three youngest out for a walk dressed up with their Halloween buckets.... every time they spotted a pumpkin or house that's was decorated I put a sweet in their bucket.
It still felt like Halloween and they weren't bothered about where the sweets came from!!

Sorry and you are not being unreasonable ignore any knockers

GirlCrush · 31/10/2020 19:53

we are ignoring the idiots!

quite a few knocking....not bothering to answer them

Burrit · 31/10/2020 19:58

Well we didn't get anyone knocking! People where out and about though so they have obviously respected the fact we've got no decorations up! Which is a relief! Just have to give out twice as much next year!

We've only had one knock at the door.
Turns out it was a friend of ds1 and his dad and they were giving out sweets! Socially distanced of course.
We don't normally participate and I have to admit most of the kids round here do respect the rule about not knocking where there are no decorations.

We're tier 2 and I've just left a bucket of sweets out for kids to help themselves.
@Aridane sounds awful! I take it that's teenagers and not little children doing that?
Oh yes - teenage boys! (but happily none came out yesterday 👍 )

We’re tier 3 and I ignored the door. We have decorations up as do many houses in our area (it’s quite popular in this area) but it didn’t mean I welcomed trick or treaters, I just thought children might do a walk around the area to look at people’s decorations... We had about four people knock which is a lot less than usual but still.

Round here the unwritten rule is that trick or treaters stop only at houses that are decorated.

Normally I decorate the house. This year I didn't, but I did put out a Tupperware box with some goodies in, just in case people came round. No one rang the doorbell and when I checked before going to bed it looked like nothing had been taken.

We're tier 1.
