I live in a Tier 3 zone - and idiots are trick or treating!

What on Earth are people thinking?!
We've got neighbours either answering doors, we've got other neighbours leaving tubs of sweets on doorsteps - huge, HUGE bunches of people (ie. different households) grouping together walking up and down the street and up and down people's drives, absolutely no social distancing at all.

I hate lockdown as much as the next person, but its shit like this that is why we're facing increased deaths and harsher measures.

Oh please, don’t be such a killjoy.
And as for these ‘scientific advisors’ that you set such store by, as many disagree with lockdown as agree with it.
Have you thought about applying for a job as a corvid Marshall?

CouldBeOuting · 31/10/2020 19:26

Tier 2 here. I have put some decorations outside (nowhere near as many as usual) and I am giving out wrapped sweets straight from the bag with tongs so I’m not touching them myself and none of the children are touching them either.

I’ve only had three families knock but it is lovely to see the children’s faces.

TibetanTerrier · 31/10/2020 19:30

@BrightSunshineDay
A few trick or treaters are not going to cause a massive outbreak.

Not true. It only takes one to start a massive outbreak. And then the rest of the morons who think they can do what they like help it grow. It's also not "a few", the idiots are out all over the country. Every FB group I'm on is full of them declaring that the virus doesn't exist or that they won't be told what to do.

LG101 · 31/10/2020 19:33

We have trick and treated but between 3 other houses and all prearranged. We had a schedule of who goes in what order so the kids could all answer the door and knock on the doors too. It was lovely and to be honest I hate the idea of knocking on strangers doors anyway so much happy with this arrangement!

Catsup · 31/10/2020 19:33

I was in the process of mopping the hall floor and got caught on the hop by knocking at the door. Sooo, no mask, and I had to rummage in my handbag for a stray £1. It was a very sweet 6/7yr old fully costumed so I'd have felt crap saying 'No' 🙄. Now improvising with packets of crisps, mask & hand gel ready if we get any more. Tier 2 here... I genuinely thought nobody would be doing it this year.

Hyperfish101 · 31/10/2020 19:35

It’s very busy here. I’m just ignoring them. It’s ridiculous. Kids’ will survive without a year trick or treating ffs.

Catsup · 31/10/2020 19:37

Also adding - I'm currently getting weekly testing via work, the stray £1 coin had been sat in my bag for months, and I dropped it directly into the proffered bucket rather than handing it to the child.

Unicorners · 31/10/2020 19:39

I'm in a tier 2 and not seen anyone out in my street. Me and all my friends have just done stuff in the house with our kids this year.

fastandthecurious · 31/10/2020 19:39

Tier 3 here but very quiet. We have pumpkins etc outside and it's usually non stop but we haven't had a knock tonight (I wouldn't have answered if we did )

bananaskinsnomnom · 31/10/2020 19:40

Tier 1 - live in an estate that’s normally huge on Halloween - massive efforts on decorations, street communities go mad with it, dozens of groups of trick or treaters.

Not a soul tonight. Haven’t been out in the dark but earlier on there was only one house with a pumpkin (and I passed close to 50 homes going to the shop). No ones knocked, haven’t heard anyone. There are fireworks though.....

ceeveebee · 31/10/2020 19:42

Tier 3 - several neighbours have been messaging on our road whatsapp group that they have lots of sweets for the kids - literally at the same time as Boris is announcing full lockdown. Total covidiots

Joeblack066 · 31/10/2020 19:42

@Whammyyammy

We've got 4 pumpkins 🎃 on the drive as the villagers have organised a spot the pumpkin walks, where the parents give them a sweet for each one spotted. Not had a door knock yet but will ignore if I do.
Same here, and we’ve done the walking and I’ve given them sweets. Tier 2 here. So many dickheads tho saying “here take some sweets” and me saying “no we’re not doing that thank you.” One got quite angry!
lynsey91 · 31/10/2020 19:47

Tier 3 here and there are quite a few parents and youngsters walking around. Our local facebook page had quite a lot of posts from people saying they would have sweets.

I can't say I am surprised as so many neighbours have ignored rules right from the start of first lock down.

They needn't bother knocking here because the door won't be opened

sunshineandshowers21 · 31/10/2020 19:48

quite a few around our area out. there’s a new estate that goes crazy for halloween and most houses are decorated and handing out sweets. we’ve cut cardboard into tombstones and ghosts and have stuck them at the top of the drive with bags of sweets stuck on for people to help themselves. our family is still in isolation so we’re having a halloween party instead.

MintyMabel · 31/10/2020 19:48

Opening your door and offering a tub of wrapped sweets is not going to make any difference to the spread

This. Neither is leaving a tub of sweets on the doorstep.

ginghamstarfish · 31/10/2020 19:51

and these are the people who'll be whinging about lockdown, not being able to go out, losing their jobs, etc etc.... twats the lot of them.

Saucery · 31/10/2020 19:52

Have you thought about applying for a job as a corvid Marshall?

Damn tricky those crows. It’s nearly as difficult to marshal them as it is to teach spelling.

Figgygal · 31/10/2020 19:53

Tier 1
Not a soul out

entrytohr · 31/10/2020 19:56

Next door to us had a kids party. Including apple bobbing Hmm they've not followed the rest of the measures right through since the start, but that did seem particularly stupid.

BeardieWeirdie · 31/10/2020 19:57

Argh I YABU’d by mistake.

HelloMissus · 31/10/2020 19:58

DH has taken our foster kids out on a pumpkin hunt in the village.
What’s wrong with that?

Well behaved tier 2 pumpkin walk here. I mean the kids touched but they'll be in the same bubble come Monday anyway.

FiddlefigOnTheRoof · 31/10/2020 20:04

My children have been around to spot pumpkins. What’s the issue?

We have put some pre-wrapped sweets at the end of the drive in a bowl, to prevent anyone ringing our doorbell. I really really don’t think that bowl is going to be a super-spreader event.

mrsmrt1981 · 31/10/2020 20:06

I left a bucket of sweeties outside. I don’t see anything wrong with doing this.
