Period pads in bathroom bin

grey12 · 30/10/2020 14:16

My mum gets worried and anxious about all sorts of crazy things, courtesy of her mother. I am much more chilled and so we clash a bit...

I gave birth 2 weeks ago and, of course, I'm still bleeding a bit and wear biggish daily pads (the biggest one of the small ones, you know). My mum said to me that I shouldn't put them in the bin in the bathroom because of my DH and FIL. I should take a separate bag (and put it where???!!!).

Let me be straight with you: my answer was "not happening"!!!

Are you team "my mum" or, like me, you think "though"?? (Btw the boys of the house don't usually empty the bathroom bin)

OP posts:

I think this is older generation of women the bk Ng period pads are completely taboo.

AllBellyandBoobs · 31/10/2020 18:40

Roll and wrap and in the bin. Nothing to be ashamed of or disgusted by.

DoveOfPiss · 31/10/2020 18:47

I'm with you OP

My bathroom bin (lidded) gets used toilet paper (in nappy bags) as well as my eldest DDs sanpro (wrapped and bagged) put in it, otherwise my kids bung up the loo with their enthusiastic use of toilet roll combined with the size of their doings. It's what my bathroom bin is for. And hair from the bath plughole!
It gets emptied about once a week and doesn't smell.

I used to hate going to other people's houses and they didn't have a bathroom bin. I used a mooncup and I'm trying to get my squeamish DD1 to try one.

dentydown · 31/10/2020 19:34

Wrap them in news paper! It really stops the smell. I’m with you. As long as you empty the bin regularly, it should be fine. But being made to dispose of a pad at 2am in the cold, rain on a hike to a bin in the middle of no where. Urgh ! No!

linsey2581 · 31/10/2020 19:47

Am I the only person who doesn’t actually have a bathroom bin??

TotorosFurryBehind · 31/10/2020 19:51

Not only are you right, but you have just given birth FFS, you have better things to think about!

Perhaps if your mother is worried about the bin she could offer to come round and empty them for you whilst you are busy with your newborn...

Member869894 · 31/10/2020 19:57

Yuk. I'm with your mum

mangoandraspberries · 31/10/2020 20:02

Your house, your bin, put what you like in it!

Plus given you’ve just given birth, I’d suggest to your DM that you have more important things to worry about..

Zerrin13 · 31/10/2020 20:06

I'm with your Mum on this one. I've never had bins in bathrooms. I cant stand seeing bins with rubbish or anything in them.

Screamnastic · 31/10/2020 20:08

Don't have a bathroom bin and will never get one. We never had one growing up, I had a DM and three sisters. The only bin we have is in the kitchen, it is split into recycling and normal rubbish. We outnumbered the males in the house, no-one was embarrassed.

Used products go straight into the outside bin, same with used nappies. I am the only female in my family, tampons and sanitary pads are in the medicine cabinet. There is no period shame.

When she stays, Dsil keeps a carrier bag on the back of her door and puts it in the kitchen bin when she goes. I have no idea how she creates so much rubbish. I assume used hygiene products might be in there.

ancientgran · 31/10/2020 21:19

It gets emptied about once a week and doesn't smell. You mean you can't smell it.

Mamanyt · 31/10/2020 22:31

I'm with most of the commenters...roll and wrap. I'm too old to worry about periods, but I'm definitely old enough to worry about a little...piddle leakage, so those thin pads are a part of my daily routine, too. Roll, wrap, and toss them in the bin. Your mom is part of an entirely different generation (actually, forget that, she's probably my age, and I know better), just tell her, "I GOT THIS!"

LonelyFromCorona · 31/10/2020 22:33

As long as its wrapped so no no red is visible... Even if I saw bloody cotton pads or tissues in a bin I find it a bit gross, never mind sanitary products.

Whose house is it OP? If it's your mum's house then you should respect her wishes

@Ohalrightthen

Get scented bags and a bin with a lid.
Hmm really? She hasn’t had a shit in the litter tray.

In 32 years I have never once entered someone’s bathroom and smelt a period and I don’t know anyone who doesn’t just roll, wrap and stick in the bin.

Quite!
Middersweekly · 31/10/2020 22:46

@expatinspain we are also in spain. We just put our used sanitary products in the bin “no pasa nada”.
Just place it wrapped in the plastic cover it comes in and put it in the bin. I see no problem with that!

Baxterbear · 01/11/2020 00:39

@ImEatingVeryHealthilyOhYes

Even that’s not as weird as some things I googled about period blood for the purposes of this thread yesterday
Firstly, I'm not asking why you were googling weird things to do with period blood! Live and let live I say!! However, my horrified mind is recoiling in horror so much I can't think of one gross thing to do with it and I wondered (beg) if (more begging) you could (extreme begging) enlighten us all.....? 🤔
Sometimeswinning · 01/11/2020 01:01

^Yuk. I'm with your mum In what way? Men should not be exposed to our bloody pads??

90% of the time I wear a cup. The other 10 I wear a pad and dh empties the bin. I clean his boxers so it's all fair in my eyes.

Usernamerequired · 01/11/2020 01:06

Tied in a nappy bag and put in the bathroom pedal bin in our house, just for hygiene and fresher scent reasons. The older women in my family wouldn’t even let you dry a pair of knickers on the radiator incase it embarrassed the men folk-especially the gusset 😂 I hope you are doing well and congratulations

QueenPaws · 01/11/2020 01:23

I use reusables but would be horrified if a guest felt unable to put something in the bin. I empty it, I don't root through the contents as I keep recycling stuff separate. Bin has a lid, and there's tampons etc if people need any

People can put things in the bathroom bin, that's what it is for, but sanpro needs to be wrapped first.

I thought all bathroom bins had a lid; I've never had or seen one without a lid.

Ineke · 01/11/2020 04:23

Nonsense, just roll, and wrap it in toilet paper to reduce plastic.

MerchantOfVenom · 01/11/2020 04:31

Totally agree, and this is reminding me exactly why we don’t have bins in the bathroom.
