To store bog brush in bleach/toilet cleaner?

I know to some here a bog brush is Unreasonable in itself but what do you think about filling the holder with cleaning fluid and keeping it there between uses?

As long as it doesn't gas out the bathroom, go for it. Bleach might attack the plastic, makes it brittle over time which would lead to unpleasantness.

Just don't clean the thing in your dishwasher with the plates...

ShortSilence · 30/10/2020 12:37

I think it sounds a bit grim, sorry. Imagine if the holder got knocked over and it all spilled out.

For tedious reasons I won’t go into, we have a toilet brush in one toilet but not the other. I just make sure I “rinse” the brush a couple of times in the flush of clean water, tap it and put it back, and it has been ok so far. Now and then I do a quick rinse out of the holder, which is a tall enclosed one, with warm water/Fairy.

bogbrushhandle · 30/10/2020 12:37

I am not sure I can give up The Brush but thought this would be a good way of making it more hygienic?

If not, please tell me how you manage without. Thanks all!

I would not , I would be worried about it been knocked over or it dripping and stain/ bleaching the floor.

puts hard hat on > dodges flying glare

I put a little bit of toilet cleaner/bleach in the bottom of the loo brush holder. Not had any issues. More hygienic.

romeolovedjulliet · 30/10/2020 12:43

i use the toilet duck disposable cleaner pads, and rinse the handle in the flush. not eco i know but i do shed loads of eco stuff and don't drive so i have to have a small indulgence Smile

Good point! But I often find that the brush has dropped toilet water in there anyhow? The holder next time I use it always has water in the bottom.

I've got a rubber one with no bristles and just rinse in the blu block flush water

bogbrushhandle · 30/10/2020 12:46

Clean the loo , add what ever cleaning product to the clean loo water and stand the brush in it for as long as pratical ( not over night if you wake up and go for a pee in the dark , thats a surprize you dont want ! )

😂made me LOL

Thanks for your tips about let brush drip off first though

I wouldn't use bleach or toilet cleaner, but I might use a little splash of Dettol.

Generally I rinse it under the flush and once a fortnight or so leave it in bleach in the loo.

bogbrushhandle · 30/10/2020 12:50

I am not sure how to rinse the brush under the flush and keep the lid down? Or is it okay because the toilet has just been cleaned?

I've got a brush with silicone bristles. Much easier to keep clean than the normal brush with lots of fine bristles. Cleaning stuff in the loo, brush in, then take the brush out later.

One strange thing though.... My loo brush has a pair of tweezers secreted in the handle. I have no idea what they are for and don't even want to begin thinking about it

Looks like a great brush and very reasonably priced thank you for the link.

I just rinse it, tap it on the side of the loo to get the drips off, and slosh a bit of Zoflora over the bristles before putting it back in the holder (call me Mrs Hinch). Zoflora makes the bathroom smell nice too.

It doesn't have to be "sterile", because I don't brush my teeth or my hair with it - the only place it ever goes is down the loo.

SomeSmotheringDreams · 30/10/2020 13:34

It also said somewhere in the instructions that it was dishwasher safe Shock

Stand the bleach filled holder in a bucket in the bath so if it leaks it won't leak over the bathroom floor

Aha. Didn't click through that far (for obvious reasons Grin )
