People who don't indicate at roundabouts!

Having been reading the 'who's at fault' car crash thread, it got me thinking about something which really annoys me which a lot of drivers seem to do.

I'm a truck driver and need a fair bit of space to pull out, which means being fairly on the ball when at a city centre roundabout. Usually, I'm waiting for somebody to turn left so I can pull onto the roundabout.

What happens a lot is that a driver won't be indicating, so I wait in the assumption that they are going straight ahead. But then they turn left without indicating, which is infuriating as it means I could've gone had they signalled their intentions earlier, but now it's too late and I'm stuck in the stream of traffic behind them.

Even worse, but less common, is those idiots who turn right but don't indicate and almost cause a crash as drivers opposite them pull out not realising they are continuing around the roundabout. Had a woman slam on brakes and beep me today for almost pulling out in front of her, but she wasn't indicating that she intended to turn right. Had me muttering to myself for a good minute or so after! 😂

Latley round here there seems to be a weird trend of people comming round the round about then indicating right (as in already passed one exit then turning their right indicator on while on the round about) before turning left off.

Can't figure out why the hell it seems to be happening so often recently. It seems more like they're accidentally using the wrong indicator rather than trying to cause a crash

I've actually seen several people do that this week! I did think to myself 'wtf are they doing' but now I think about it I've never noticed it before now.

I believe that technically you're meant to wait to see what the person does, like when you wait for them to turn left before pulling out on a main road. Problem is that you've already missed you chance when in a 40+ ft truck in city traffic. You're pretty much at the mercy of the idiot driver.

I’m regularly annoyed by the number of drivers who don’t indicate correctly coming on/off a roundabout.
Either they’re ignorant of the rules and need to be re-educated or they’re lazy fuckers. I’ll accept that it’s a lapse now and again for some.

The ones who really enrage me are those who indicate right but go straight ahead from the left lane 🤬

LordLancington · 30/10/2020 04:24

On a slightly different note, I took great pleasure today in blocking in a whole row of taxi drivers who wouldn't move out the loading bay (which is basically a big lay by). Petty but felt so satisfying.

Said lay by is right opposite the bus station, so I can see why they park there, and tbh I'm not going to get pissy about it usually as I don't imagine many wagons park there in an evening. Normally I just get out and politely explain I need to park there to be offloaded.

Most times they move but today the first one said '"sorry, I have somebody arriving in a few minutes" and then the rest ignored me. I just pulled up half on the road (technically not a public road but used as a cut through as no cameras) and put my hazards on. They all suddenly decided they wanted to move but I said "sorry, my delivery slot is in a few mins". 😂

Those that don’t indicate so you think they’re going ahead and then indicate left when they have already exited the roundabout drive me mad

NoWordForFluffy · 30/10/2020 05:38

It's those who indicate left, but then don't take the first left they pass, but go on to the next one that get me! Talk about a misleading signal. 😡

kowari · 30/10/2020 05:38

It annoys me when people to my right stop and wait for five seconds when it's clear for them to go.

Penners99 · 30/10/2020 05:45

People that indicate right then left to go straight on. I hate them so much!

User43210 · 30/10/2020 05:48

I get so much road rage at people not indicating or indicating incorrectly. Things like roundabouts, happens daily and they waste opportunities to access the roundabout due to (as PP mentioned) having to wait to clearly see where they intend to go.

Another frustration is on a dual carriageway, I hate when a driver starts to pull into a lane then indicates when they're already halfway across - like what's the point?! You're meant to indicate before you manoeuvre. I get that once or twice it may be an "oops I forgot to indicate" but not every time!

Blocking the taxis in @LordLancington 😂 that makes me so, so happy. I hope the first guy lost his customer due to his rudeness.

KatherineJaneway · 30/10/2020 05:52

It's not just roundabouts. There is a crossroads I use frequently and the amount of drivers who sit at a red light and only indicate they are turning after the lights turn green amazes me.

FrangipaniWHOOOOO · 30/10/2020 05:55

This is my pet hate because I failed my driving test due to this!!!!

Mini roundabout with a 2 lane approach and only 2 exits (3 counting the approach). Bloke in a van approaching from my right at the same time as me straddling both lanes and not indicating, so I slowed to a crawl to see where he was going (logically in my head I'm thinking well you wouldn't drift over into the right hand approach lane if you were turning left, more likely he's turning right across my path?). The fucker turned left, I carried on and was failed for "hesitation".

This is my top vote for Room 101. People who don't indicate correctly at roundabouts are arseholes

It was most certainly a bit of a dick move on my part, but after the second guy wouldn't even wind down his window I thought sod em! (I was wearing my face mask too and stood back after tapping window.).

I did let them out after I'd notified the fork lift driver of my presence, but I think 3-4 minutes amply made my point. 😂

I've lost count of the amount of people who pull out in front of me when I'm turning (and indicating) right on a mini roundabout. I've had to hit the brakes on quite a few occasions. It's one particular roundabout, can't see why it is different to any other roundabout. The other driver is usually staring straight ahead and not even registering that I'm just about to take out the side of his car.

Bitchysideisouttoplay · 30/10/2020 06:31

I agree with all of you.
We do have a roundabout where I live (a popular seaside town) which has caused so much confusion with the holiday makers as the left lane is left only, the right lane is ahead and right. During the summer months it is absolute mayhem and the majority of locals avoid this roundabout if possible due to the amount of crashes that happen every year as people dont read the road signs 🙄

Disappointedkoala · 30/10/2020 06:33

I noticed when we were in the full lockdown that indicating (as well as obeying speed limits) seemed even more optional that usual. Seems to have continued into "normal times" too.

This is exactly what happened to me a few months back as I approached one from a residential road. I remember it clearly.

Middle aged bloke in a Honda Jazz doing I would guess about 40mph (this was the limit) and zipped straight past without even registering me. I had luckily got a hunch he wasn't going to stop due to his speed of approach. I was in a 32t FEL truck which are very solid and tanklike, much more so than a curtainsider.

I don't think the guy had the slightest inkling how close to death he came that day!

I watch a vehicle's wheels and the direction they're going when I'm waiting to pull out on a roundabout. It gives me an advanced notification of which way they're going

BibbityBobbityBellend · 30/10/2020 06:43

A misleading signal is worse than no signal at all!

Ive seen a few people indicate left and then take the last exit. Apparently some people think that's correct.

I feel for people who drive for a living. I think I'd explode in a fit of rage before lunchtime on my first day.

My pet hate for indicating is when at a t junction and you wait patiently for the car toddling along and then he turns into where you are. You could have gone 30 seconds earlier. Was you not sitting there hint enough to remind him to indicate?

I'm not the best driver. I'm not hesitant at all and have no patience for others but I thoroughly believe we should have to have a refresher course every few years.

Belledan1 · 30/10/2020 06:45

I am a,walker and have cross a side road that comes from a very busy roundabout. Drives me mad when people dont indicate left to my side road. I am either waiting for ages thinking the car is coming down my road so don't cross or cross and a car suddenly speeds down who I think going straight ahead. I do try and judge it from their position on the roundabout but not always that easy.

Belledan1 · 30/10/2020 06:46

Sorry that should be regularly cross.

wowfudge · 30/10/2020 06:46

Happened to me yesterday - I was waiting to enter the roundabout and take the first exit. Guy approaching from the right slows right down and I don't move so he twigs I'm waiting for him to give me a clue. He starts to turn off and then indicates. I showed my mild annoyance with an eye roll and slight shake of the head and he looked pissed off at me. I clearly should have been grateful he found his indicator.

I do think some other drivers believe roundabouts are a test of your telepathy skills.

LordLancington · 30/10/2020 06:47

Another whole world of frustration (actually discussed on here recently) is the widely unknown fact that you will still get a fine and three points if you cross the line at a junction to let a police car past.

In a car you will possibly get away with edging forward but not in a truck as you'd end up blocking the whole junction when lights change. The police aren't supposed to bully you into doing so but IME many will leave sirens on, causing people to panic. I've received abuse from drivers for making the police wait a few seconds, but I can't afford to lose my livelihood that provides for my family over a few seconds (my employer is very strict on driving endorsements and the police need to educate their drivers on this issue as many are either unaware or don't seem to care).

My DH does this and sets my teeth on edge. He also indicates too late so other drivers don’t know his intent, until he’s just about to it it. Fucking annoying 😂
