Is there anyone who doesn’t think they had covid last winter

no trolling or trying to be clever, almost every single person I know thinks they could have had it last year. I was in hospital for a virus which caused breathing difficulties in December. I feel like I’m losing touch with relaity

Or symptomatic covid at least.

I'm a little confused by the voting, but yes, I do think I had it last December. I had a high fever 39.6 and really awful cough, but tested negative for the flu. Another 3 people who were at the doctors at the same time as me also had the same symptoms and tested negative for the flu. It spread like crazy among my coworkers. I remember one woman saying I should be careful that I don't get it and I said that I never really get sick and then a few days later bam.

Am hearing about more and more people going down with it. Even though touch wood not us yet.

Aragog · 04/11/2020 13:11

If someone thinks they had it, they should get an antibody test

How?
I don't think I am eligible for one in England.
It would be nice to know if I have antibodies before I go back into school. I was already clinically vulnerable. The complications from Covid mean I have another notch to add to the health reasons for that!

At the same time, a bug was flying through the primary schools around my way. They were having to close for deep cleans; teachers were on their knees either off ill or covering for the ill.

In Autumn and early winter last year there were a lot of nasty bugs going around, especially in the north, They were mainly D&V ones, but also some others, hence the deep cleans. It was in a lot of the media as so many schools were being affected, and some actually having to shut. We didn't but had many classes with lots of children missing.

That was all well before Covid though, and usually not the same symptoms - round here at least.

I think we did in early March. My DS was 16 months old at the time and he had a constant cough all day long, he just couldn’t stop coughing. Then in the evening he started to struggle to breathe, he was sucking his breath under his ribs so we called an ambulance and I was absolutely terrified. He was in hospital overnight and given oxygen and a nebuliser all night. He had a slight temperature too and just wasn’t himself.

The paramedics, doctors and nurses didn’t have PPE and I remember the paramedic telling me covid wouldn’t be that big a deal in the UK Hmm. I asked a doctor whether it could be coronavirus and he said maybe but we don’t test unless you’re admitted onto the ward and I don’t want to admit him. He had a nebuliser for a few days and was back to his usual self within 2-3 days.

Then probably a week later I developed a cough and I couldn’t stop coughing whatsoever. I remember coming downstairs in the middle of the night and just sitting upright on the sofa to help me sleep because the cough was just relentless.

I would LOVE an antibody test, I really do think it was covid. DH and I had been at work as usual, DC at school, DS at the childminders and also toddler groups on my days off. No one really knew how serious it would be at that point so none of us were taking precautions.

Until recently I thought I’d had it but I’ve had an antibody test and seems I haven’t had it yet.

BusySittingDown · 04/11/2020 14:07

I had a really dry, persistent cough the very first week in March before there was any advice to isolate for symptoms.

I was working in my office at the time and every time I coughed someone mentioned covid. However, no one else I know caught it (none of my household and no one else in my office) so I really don't think it was Covid.

Not everyone who’s had Covid has positive antibody tests.

There were quite a few people at DH’s work who had negative antibody tests despite having previously tested positive for Covid.

This is very refreshing to read as I was starting to get the impression that the was losing my mind. I was very ill last year and I’ve had a lot of people raging “oh it’s been around since October” but that stats don’t add up if it’s so contagious

I had it at Easter time but not before that. So yes, me, in answer to your question.

A lot of people say they think they had it because it makes them feel safer and as though they won’t get it now.

I think your last statement is true. I’d love to think I had it cos that means I got through it ok.

I have also heard this from a lot of associates. I did have a mild Coronavirus (properly diagnosed) a couple of years ago ( before Covid-19) and it’s the respiratory part of it that makes it stand out from normal colds and ‘flu, so if people had been suffering from more than normal respiration issues I can see why they might assume they’d had it.

sueelleker · 12/11/2020 12:28

My husband had a cough that lasted 3 months.
