AIBU?

AIBU to think a 6 year old is too young to be forced to where a mask?

This is now the law [in France] edited by MNHQ for clarity. I think this could be very frightening for a small child.

World wide evidence would suggest that 6 is not too young.

I wonder if Canuckduck and I live in the same (non hysterical) place where our kids have coped fine with this (as have all over 2s) for months.
If masks impeded breathing I wonder how the surgeon who operated on my dad for 18 hours managed.
Or better still DH who works in full PPE with N95 masks for 12 hours a day. No sign of asphyxiation yet. Although the N95 has caused pressure sores because frankly he has a ginormous nose.

Monkey world is also masks over 3.

nonames, they've trained the chimps and other adult primates to wear masks?

Don't be silly. People visiting wear masks as covid will likely be able to be passed to the monkeys and apes

Schrödinger's masks - simultaneously too flimsy to keep droplets from being spread, but impermeable enough to impede breathing and keep oxygen out.

@Laughingcrow

Yanbu. London zoo wanted kids aged 3 plus to wear masks at a couple of their inside areas. Not sure why some and not others.... That and they didn't advertise it so we didn't know and had to miss them out. They should have mentioned it on their website

Did they? I went over the summer with two 4 year olds and didn’t see anything about masks for children and no one said anything to us ... I’d be surprised if many people complied with that, I can’t recall seeing any kids in masks.

My 3year old grandson loves his, he turns into toy story ninja when he wears it.

I live in a country where masks are mandatory. All day at school. From 3 years old. Kids get used to it very quickly.

Wow just wow. Children should not be wearing masks. Wtf is wrong with you people. It’s abusive to place something in front of a child’s face that inhibits their breathing and that’s exactly scar you’re doing for a virus with 99.99% recovery rate. Disgraceful doing this to children I honestly can’t believe there’s so many of you

Who said anything about inhibiting their breathing? It's a piece of cloth not a tightly wrapped airtight plastic. Dc and friends are currently picking out Xmas themed masks and don't mind one bit. Calm down @Kinny14

@Kinny 14 you need to educate yourself about what child abuse actually is. Newsflash it's not a piece of fabric.

I could just as equally hyperbolically say that it's abusive to place children in a position where they will [cue sad music] KILL THEIR GRANDPARENTS by infecting them with covid, because they weren't wearing a mask, thus dooming those poor tiny tots to a lifetime of guilt and therapy. But I won't, because describing mask wearing or not mask wearing for small children as "abusive" is stupid.

Loads of kids wear masks. It's not a big deal. If your child doesn't have medical issues, and is making a big fuss about not being able to breathe properly, they've probably picked that notion up from you.

Absolute tools. Anything over your mouth is going to inhibit breathing. Seriously wonder how you all got to an age where you can log into the web and type. Good luck and work hard now cos you’re going to need it to pay for your kids counselling in years to come because you can’t get a grip and think for yourselves.

Don't stress my dc have been wearing masks to school for months now.
I'm sure that they will be glad when they don't have to anymore but they've adjusted.
They manage games and dance in them alongside every other class.
The masks don't create an airtight seal and oxygen molecules are very small so it's all good.

A surgeon operated on my mother for 8 hours with a mask. How did he not pass not I wonder? From the inhibited breathing.

midnightstar66 · 11/11/2020 17:21

Well the name calling won't make your wrong fact right. There's been loads of medical professionals do experiments with pulse ox monitors to show that Masks don't affect oxygen levels even during moderate exercise in order to ease people minds. The dc that will need therapy are those with parents who have made them terrified of basic safety measures, not those who cheerily popped on a mask and got on with their days

Everybody at my gym is required to wear masks, yes also when exercising. We haven't had any issues with anybody passing out yet.

I’m in scotland so my kids have had to wear them in shops etc for a while. Youngest is fine. It’s my eldest bizarrely who struggles - they make her panic. This is learned behaviour from me before anyone jumps on me. It just happens. I’m really hoping masks are done away with soon as she can’t wear one for extended time so now doesn’t come shopping with us.

Anyway I think small children are likely fine for a small amount of time/

I’m completely against them in primary schools though - children aren’t spreading it and the harms are far greater. I’m honestly still not convinced that cloth masks are the way forward either - I look forward to the studies proving me wrong in a few years! But wet soppy material being touched by hands and removed and things touched - I am prepared to bet money it’s spreading the virus more than it isn’t. I still wear a mask before you all scream at me - but I do so wondering if it’s less airborne than we might think.

How do surgeons cope then? You're a bit hysterical and hard of thinking aren't you?

My ds is 6, autistic and goes to a SEN school. Manages to wear his mask with no drama. He just gets on with it. It's not hard.
