To think DH has to self isolate?

111 replies

RainbowsAndFrogs · 28/10/2020 09:13

DH worked with someone on monday.
On Tuesday that person had a cough and got a test.
Today they got results and are positive for coronavirus.
As husband was in contact on Monday he should now have to self isolate for 14 days ending a week next Monday, is that correct?
He seems to think because he hasn't been contacted by test and trace, that he doesn't have to,
He has ordered a test (I know you're not supposed to but he won't listen) and said he will isolate but if test comes back negative he will go to work. I thought you still had to isolate for 14 days even if you have a negative test?

YABU - He doesn't need to self isolate
YANBU- he needs to self isolate for 14 days

He's getting a test to see if he has it.
I've told him even if it's negative he may get symptoms on a few days but there's no telling him.
His work have closed for a few days and I think he will be going back when /if he tests negative

He doesn’t need to self isolate unless told to by track and trace.

To think DH has to self isolate?
isitsummertimeyet · 28/10/2020 19:46

track n trace doesnt even work properly, its been proven people have sent them back without actually even using them to prove or disprove and they come back as positive...

It suits the narative of the goverment to continue to imply everyones got covid..

Where are all the people this year that would of gotten Flu, last year it was over 1000 according to the CDC, this year it was 60ish..

Go figure.

vanillandhoney · 28/10/2020 19:51

He doesn't need to isolate OR get a test.

If you think you've been in contact with someone who has coronavirus, but you do not have symptoms and have not been told to self-isolate, continue to follow social distancing advice.

Jesus. No wonder it's spreading. Yes, he needs to isolate.

What, it’s spreading because someone he was 7 metres away from has tested positive and he’s not isolating?! 7 metres! Don’t be ridiculous!

He hasn’t been contacted by track and trace and even assuming T&T shouldn’t be relied up, he isn’t a close contact by the definition so why would he isolate?

PurpleDaisies · 28/10/2020 20:04

He seems to think because he hasn't been contacted by test and trace, that he doesn't have to

He is correct. This is absolutely clear on the nhs website.

People like making up their own rules though.

How come Wayne Rooney had to self-isolate when he came in contact with his mate who had covid?

PurpleDaisies · 28/10/2020 20:05

@NewPapaGuinea

How come Wayne Rooney had to self-isolate when he came in contact with his mate who had covid?
Presumably because test and trace told him to.
AllTheUserNamesAreTaken · 28/10/2020 20:08

@NewPapaGuinea

How come Wayne Rooney had to self-isolate when he came in contact with his mate who had covid?
Your clue is in ‘came into contact with’ and also presumably because T&T told him to.

‘Came into contact with’ is very different to ‘was 7m away from’

NewPapaGuinea · 28/10/2020 20:08

Which raises the question how are test and trace adjudging who needs to self-isolate or not?

vanillandhoney · 28/10/2020 20:08

@NewPapaGuinea

How come Wayne Rooney had to self-isolate when he came in contact with his mate who had covid?
Presumably because he was contacted by Track and Trace and told to do so? Or because he was required to do so by his work?
BeakyWinder · 28/10/2020 20:09

I've been through these guidelines in detail this week for a similar reason and he only has to isolate if Test and Trace say so. He can only get a free NHS test if he has symptoms.

NewPapaGuinea · 28/10/2020 20:10

The NHS uses “been in contact” not necessarily requiring to self-isolate that doesn’t hold up.

BeakyWinder · 28/10/2020 20:12

@Nellsbells173

I’ve just finished self isolating for 14 days as someone I work with (and then several others during this period) tested positive. They were contacted by track and trace, I wasn’t. I still isolated though, but I did have much more contact with them then your husband. I wouldn’t rely on track and trace to inform you.
Out of interest- Did your work pay you to take the time off, or did you WFH?
BeakyWinder · 28/10/2020 20:15
@Emcrd I agree with you. We all know from the news that track and trace are not managing to contact everyone- if you have the knowledge you have been in close contact then morally you should do the right thing.
I agree Track and Trace is not working, but volunteering to take 2 weeks unpaid leave is not an option for many people. Morals will not pay the mortgage!

Theimpossiblegirl · 28/10/2020 20:17

Unless every single interaction is registered with Test and Trace, it cannot be the only thing to decide whether one needs to isolate or not.
People need the common sense to know if they are in contact with someone who develops symptoms within 48 hours of contact, they need to isolate.

It seem to me that people are desperately trying to avoid isolating but this is exactly why the virus is spreading. People need to take some responsibility.

Gladysthesphinx · 28/10/2020 20:18

Unless he’s been contacted by Test & Trace or has tested positive himself there is no legal requirement for him to self isolate. See regulation 2 of the Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (Self isolation) (England) Regulations- which sets out when self isolation is legally required.

You can find these regulations on the legislation.gov.uk site, just click on the box for Coronavirus Legislation & look on the list under ‘England’.

This assumes you are in England.

In Wales, there is no legal requirement to self isolate even if you test positive or are contacted by Test & Trace. Which is mad, I know, but true.

If test & trace haven’t contacted him he’s fine.

PurpleDaisies · 28/10/2020 20:19

It seem to me that people are desperately trying to avoid isolating but this is exactly why the virus is spreading. People need to take some responsibility.

People need to pay their bills.

PurpleFlower1983 · 28/10/2020 20:21

I don’t think he needs to self isolate as they have not been in close contact.

bengalcat · 28/10/2020 20:24

He does . That said if he fails to do so I’d isolate myself and anyone else in the house from him insofar as this is possible .

Nellsbells173 · 28/10/2020 20:24

@BeakyWinder I work in a school so our bubble shut down, as did several more that day and the next.So I got paid

bengalcat · 28/10/2020 20:25

That said it depends what ‘working with someone ‘ means as in how close , how long , indoors or outdoors , wearing a mask etc .

PurpleDaisies · 28/10/2020 20:26

@bengalcat

He does . That said if he fails to do so I’d isolate myself and anyone else in the house from him insofar as this is possible .
Can you point to an official source saying he must isolate?
MJMG2015 · 28/10/2020 20:31

@BeeFarseer

What you've described is not counted as 'contact'. He doesn't have to self-isolate. He wasn't within 2 metres for more than 15 minutes.
He was in an enclosed room for 8 hours.!!!

Of course he needs to self isolate.

The Govt guidelines are based on us having a working Track & Trace system. WE DO NOT we need to use our common bloody sense

Someone being in an enclosed room with someone testing positive needs to self isolate!

MJMG2015 · 28/10/2020 20:33

@PurpleFlower1983

I don’t think he needs to self isolate as they have not been in close contact.
8 hours in an enclosed room. Moving around the room. How on earth can you say that's not close contact?!
