To want to let people who drive up your arse hit you?

Driving home from work, two occasions had cars driving so closely behind me that if I were to stop suddenly they would hit me no doubt about it. I drive to the speed limit occasionally slightly over and it was raining too!
Sometimes I really want to just slam on my brakes and let them hit me to show them how dangerous it is! ( Of course I wouldn't but am I being unreasonable to want to do it in theory!?) I find it so intimidating and off putting when I'm driving.

Had this yesterday with a bus. He was pulling up so close behind me, he must have almost been touching me. I found it very intimidating. The front of the bus was flat, as is my boot (4x4). We were in slow moving traffic and he kept rushing to pull up behind me. I was so relieved to turn off!

@frumpety i haven't done the maths, but my mum (who did her driving test in UK, i didn't) told me that's the rule of thumb her driving instructor told her.

Frankly? I use it on the Autobahn and major roads. City/town driving is different (and there is a special circle ofhell for people who insist on a huge distance to the car in front at a traffic light) but in those cases, depending on speed, definitly need 2 car lenghts.

Or what's your point?

I would love to be able to coat my car with tank-like material, but in a way that it still looks like an ordinary car and then slam on the brakes and let the tailgaters hit me!

I hate this. Two weeks ago I had. Woman behind me in a people carrier tight behind me on a main road. I indicated to turn off left onto the country road I live on, she followed. She was that close I couldn't see her number plate, front grill or bonnet. Just the image of her in my mirror. I did brake a couple of times to get the message through. Eventually I slowed right down, put the window down and gestured to back off. She tried to over take me. There was only a foot of road space so I don't know where she was aiming to go. She shaked both her fists at me and was screaming obscenities. I sat there and didn't move so she got the message.
