Buying up stock from shops and selling it online at a huge markup?

Yesterday I saw Poundland’s LOL cushions being sold for £20 on fb marketplace. This person had a huge supply. So they have gone into Poundland bought a huge supply of £1 cushions and selling them for £20 each.

It really annoys be, especially when it’s things people want to buy their children.

I see it all the time when shops put things on sale, they get sold out quickly and the next thing you know it’s on eBay or marketplace at a ridiculous price parents are either forced to pay or have to disappoint their child because they can’t get what they have asked for.

There is no value being added by these sellers

There often isn't. You're mistaken in thinking that there needs to be.

If I saw a cushion being sold for £20, I would think that the quality must be superb, hence the price.

Instead they end up with a shitty badly made cushion worth £1.

Not sure how anyone can justify that morally.

Seriously? Are you always that naive?

Sellers aren't morally obliged to save you from your own silliness.

Please don't pop to Harrods and buy any cushion in the £500/ £1k range, you'd be very disappointed, they are not magical either.

Kevin the carrot? Every year they end up on ebay at a huge mark up one year i sent my partner to grab a pack for a friend of mine there was a queue he was at the front as I got the opening time wrong he grabbed them as soon as he walked in paid for them and by the time he had driven to my house (ten minutes away) they were on ebay for £50 upwards

Mistaken - in your opinion. You’re stating your views like they’re incontrovertible facts, when they are just opinions. Like you’ve told the pp above that their is no moral imperative not to take advantage of someone else being naive. That’s your view. Some will feel otherwise.

Because I don’t agree with you, you think I don’t ‘get it’. Well, I understand what capitalism is and I understand the set-up being discussed here, and I still I think it’s ethically dubious for the reasons I’ve said.

There’s no difference between a supermarket and someone selling coveted items for inflated prices with no added value - factually incorrect.

That difference means the second seller is doing something questionable - my opinion.

And in m y opinion, your opinion is idiotic.

Some years ago we had a bit of a niche car. It was reasonably difficult to buy accessories that fit for this car and one day I came home from Poundland with a cargo net for the boot. It fit perfectly. Almost like it was made for the car.
I absolutely went back, bought a dozen and put them on eBay for the car at a tenner each and they all sold quickly.

I didn't feel even slightly guilty (though I wouldn't do it with a child's Christmas toy)
