To think it's ridiculous putting your Xmas tree up this early?

I understand we've had a shit year this year, but I wouldn't dream of putting my Christmas tree up in October. I have a friend who has taken down the Halloween decorations and has now put the tree up. It hasn't even been Halloween yet? Hmm

What is getting me through this time at the moment is knowing that in just over a month it will actually be time to put the tree up and I'm really looking towards to getting new decorations and doing so.

AIBU here?

LittleMissnotLittleMrs · 26/10/2020 10:46

YABU to call it Xmas!

Fluffybutter · 26/10/2020 10:46

@balla20

Unless the OP is harassing her friend or starting a no decorations pre December campaign why does it matter that the OP doesn't like it? Surely the "why do you care" point is applicable to both sides?

"Why do you care I put my dec's up in Oct?"
"Why do you care that I care?"
"Why did you start a thread about it"?
"Why did you read my thread about it"?

😆

But if you’re going to ask the question then of course people will answer .. that’s kind of the point
GuyFawkesHadTheRightIdea · 26/10/2020 10:49

Mine goes up mid November every year as standard. If it doesn't affect you directly why does it matter?

marmite79 · 26/10/2020 10:49

Who cares what others do! If it makes them happy, who cares! I won’t be putting ours up just yet but probably will be earlier this year (November sometime).

Viv0321 · 26/10/2020 10:49

I get that people can put a tree up whenever they want. What i DONT get is taking your halloween decs down to put the Xmas ones up, when Halloween hasn’t Even happened yet.Confused

JaceLancs · 26/10/2020 10:50

I’m always surprised by how early Xmas decorations go up for some but if it makes you happy
I normally go for a weekend around 2 weeks before (then they stay up till 12th night or just before)

FatimaMunchy · 26/10/2020 10:51

I normally put the tree up about two days before Christmas and take it down the day after Boxing Day, but I have considered putting it up soon. It is a twig tree with lights and I just thought it would cheer things up a bit. 😷🎅

AnnPerkins · 26/10/2020 10:51

@LimaFoxtrotCharlie

YABU to think of putting Christmas decorations up in a month. I won’t put mine up till 19 Dec.

There are no rules anyway! Do what you want, let your friend do whatever she wants, it doesn’t matter

Me neither. I refuse to dust my Christmas decorations! Grin
NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 26/10/2020 10:52

I put mine up as soon as Advent starts but no earlier - that essentially gives five weeks of festive 'furnishings' to our home.

jessstan1 · 26/10/2020 10:57

Your friend is ridiculous.

I didn't know people put up Halloween decorations but it isn't Halloween anyway until the 31st.

Does she not have enough to do?

FreshfieldsGal · 26/10/2020 10:57

We're putting ours up on 14th November this year and I can't wait! I love Christmas and after a crappy year it will cheer us all up. DS has SN and its his favourite time of the year.

ineedaholidaynow · 26/10/2020 10:58

Taking down Halloween decorations before Halloween has actually happened does seem bizarre.

I wonder if they will take the Christmas decorations down before Christmas!

Most people who put their decorations up early seem to take them down very quickly after Christmas Day

GuyFawkesHadTheRightIdea · 26/10/2020 11:00

@Viv0321 yeah I at least wait until my Halloween decs are down first, which is around first week in November. Then the house gets a big clean, and the Christmas decs go up.

Thecobwebsarewinning · 26/10/2020 11:00

My sisters DGC were staying with her last week while their mum was in hospital. It was miserable weather and they were all feeling glum and she asked what they would like to do to cheer everyone up. They put their heads together and came up with the plan of putting up the Christmas tree. It was bought down from the attic and is now fully decorated and brightening up the hall. It looks completely mad at this time of year but it made the children very happy and my sister says it’s a definite mood lifter on dark evenings.

EmpressSuiko · 26/10/2020 11:01

YABU to care, live and let live, some people love Christmas and it brings them a lot of joy.
It doesn’t have any impact on your life and it’s pathetic to judge others over it.

TulipsTwoLips · 26/10/2020 11:02

I think some people are doing things like this cos they're bored. I wouldn't put my tree up, but I'm certainly thinking about Christmas planning far earlier than in other years as I've not got much else to do. All the places I would go to fill my October/ November are closed.

TeamLucille · 26/10/2020 11:03

There are no rule obviously - shame these people are just ruining it by spreading it so much.

By starting 'Christmas" so early, they are completely removing what is special about it. They are also wasting so much time by wishing away a quarter of the year, it's a bit sad.

Christmas is going to be especially dreary this year - most December events are already cancelled, holidays are cancelled, most people won't even be able to see family and friends as planned. We'll still work on making it special for the kids, but without panto/grotto/parties/theme parks days, there's not much to look forward to. Makes even less to put decoration early.

Plus decoration are such a personal thing, they look tacky to pretty much everyone else than you!

LadyEloise · 26/10/2020 11:06

My sister's neighbour has a white christmas tree lit up all year round in her hall. There is a lot of fancy transparent glass in the hall door and surround so you see straight in.
Odd

BugCatcher879 · 26/10/2020 11:07

We saw one round corner at weekend!

JuliaJohnston · 26/10/2020 11:10

Why on earth would you decorate for Halloween and then take the decorations down a whole week before Halloween?
Incredibly odd thing to do.

Snackasaurus · 26/10/2020 11:11

I put mine up early December last year and I wanted it down on Boxing Day as I was fed up of seeing it Halloween Grin

TheDowagerDuchessofMwwwahaha · 26/10/2020 11:12

She’s clearly free to do this if she wants!

Guessing it’s a plastic tree because I real one would die long before Xmas! I don’t really like a plastic tree myself though.

nosswith · 26/10/2020 11:37

It's bad enough seeing them in shops, though I can understand why.

Advent which starts I think on November 29th is soon enough.

superram · 26/10/2020 11:43

My tree goes up the first weekend in December but we putting up fairy lights this week-everyone in our street is as we need cheering up!

Holeinthehouse · 26/10/2020 11:43

Why do people care about what other people do in their own home?
Would I put a tree up in October? No.
Would I care if my neighbours did it? Not at all.
