If you were living alone and didn’t have anyone regularly sleeping in the same bed as you, would you splash out on a king size bed or do you feel it’s not worth it for one person?

King if I had more space, currently sharing double with 2 cats, only one of which is mine.

Graffitiqueen · 25/10/2020 22:36

The bigger the better!!

AriettyHomily · 25/10/2020 22:37

The biggest you can fit in your room. We've got a king but I'm eyeing a super. Doubles are just too small. I like my space.

ghostyslovesheets · 25/10/2020 22:37

@WitsEnding

Prefer a double, king size duvet though!
yes - this is what I have!
LBOCS2 · 25/10/2020 22:38

I am so, unbelievably jealous of you, OP

This. We have a king sized bed and I live for the nights when DH comes up late and doesn't want to disturb me, or when one of us is unwell. I can put my pillow in the middle of the bed and really spread out - it's wonderful.

In answer to your question, the biggest bed you can possibly fit into the space you have.

grapewine · 25/10/2020 22:41

Super king if you have the room. Absolutely. It's great.

eatthatbueno · 25/10/2020 22:41

We have a king and I feel so far away from DP there's always a massive gap between us😂 We like our space in bed. But if I lived alone I'd get a super king because why not! The more room the better

pandora206 · 25/10/2020 22:42

Just downsized to a double having previously had a kingsize. I've kept the big duvet though. My reason for the change (apart from needing a new bed) was to give me extra space as it was a bit tight in the bedroom. I find that a double bed is plenty big enough to spread out.

I upgraded my bedding though and now have lovely French linen.

Woui · 25/10/2020 22:43

The biggest you can afford/biggest you can fit in the room.

I have a king as a super wouldn't fit but I will never sleep in a double again.

DipSwimSwoosh · 25/10/2020 22:48

I'd have a single.
So cosy.
I never had a single bed in my own room growing up. Moving into my own room with my own bed at uni was bliss. If ever I get a chance to sleep in a single now I do, as it reminds of that feeling of lovwly solitude.
Plus I like space. So a smaller bed = more floor space.

AgeLikeWine · 25/10/2020 22:48

I would always have the biggest bed the room could accommodate and the best quality mattress I could afford. Few things in life are better investments than a good bed.

Newjez · 25/10/2020 22:53

If you met someone that you regularly shared a bed with, would you really want to buy a new bed?
But I guess it depends on what bedding you have.

Rookie93 · 25/10/2020 22:54

When I lived alone had a king sized bed and loved the space and freedom to sleep as I liked. It's great for just lounging around let alone sleeping. So I'd say a least get a king size if it will fit. We've now got a super king and theres space for us both but I miss having the whole bed and all the space to myself. Now when I have to sleep in a normal double it feels cramped and not quite big enough for one somehow.

BelleAmie · 25/10/2020 22:55

Thanks all! I’ve wanted a king size for so long but had a few moments of doubt that it may be OTT. I am completely sold now and can’t wait to starfish!

Spacie · 25/10/2020 22:57

I've been single for 5 years now and I still sleep right over on 'my' side of the king size bed. So when I eventually replace it I will get a double and gain a bit of floor space.

Doingtheboxerbeat · 25/10/2020 22:59

Total waste for anything bigger than double but definitely a king quilt.

Aquamarine1029 · 25/10/2020 23:01

King at a minimum. Super king if you have the space.

MrsClatterbuck · 25/10/2020 23:01

Actually I am going to go against the grain here. We have kingsize beds and anytime I have slept on my own I have found it too big but when I have stayed at my mums and slept in a double bed on my own I have found it much better. Think it is because it is warmer in a double bed with one. I am much colder in a kingsize especially when you get warm on one side and then move over and find yourself in a cold spot.

shipperssss · 25/10/2020 23:05

Always the biggest when it comes to beds! We have an emperor, and I'm currently nowhere near DH, it's bliss Smile

pinkksugarmouse · 25/10/2020 23:07

It's fine to get a king size just for you. I haven't had my own bed for over twenty years and then it was a single.

With my first DH we got a king size as soon as we moved out of a tiny flat because he is 6ft 2 and I struggled to get any space in the double.
My current DH is only 5ft 9 and our double is fine. But we still have a king size duvet because I sleep like a hamster making a nest.
If I ever was single then I would have a double but if you want king size go for it.

stackemhigh · 25/10/2020 23:07

We have a double and it’s actually fine, when DH is away, I’m hugging the right side of the bed and don’t venture to the middle.

pinkksugarmouse · 25/10/2020 23:10

I can starfish on a double. I'm a tiny size 8-10 and five feet four inches so perhaps that's why.
Obviously I don't starfish with DH next to me I don't think he would be happy. Hmm

Saracen · 25/10/2020 23:17

Double. Easier to turn the mattress and hoover under the bed!

tillytoodles1 · 25/10/2020 23:20

I live on my own and have a king size bed. I sleep in the middle and have pillows either side to cuddle. It's bliss.

safariboot · 25/10/2020 23:27

Well I sleep in a single so what do I know.

Keep in mind that for a fixed budget a smaller size means you can get a better quality mattress. I think a double is plenty if it's strictly for one person and in a small room I'd value the extra floor space. But if you've plenty of space and money and you think you'll have a partner in future you may as well get the king or super now, a "double" is too small for two really.
