Hi
bit of background my DD has intestinal failure, and so requires IV nutrition via a central line every day for 14 hours. This has landed us in many tricky dangerous situations over the years. Her IV nutrition bags are for fluids / vitamins / micro elements / metals / glucose. This bags are yellow fluid not usual IV saline bags.
We were shopping yesterday for pyjamas in Westfield’s and I was shocked to discover in a pop up seating area with IV stands and 2 women taking selfies attached to these exact looking IV bags, apparently this is a thing 🙈 I looked at the “ menu “ which literally looked like a cocktail bar menu. You could design you own IV bag by adding certain elements for more money etc.
Am I behind the times to be shocked about this casually being sold in the middle of a shopping centre ?
One of them is called a party drip.

Surely not actual into their veins?

SimoneAndGarfunkel · 25/10/2020 12:52

They had this on Dragon's Den a while ago and I thought it was a bit grim.

It seems to be partly marketed as a "hangover cure" but they are not explicitly allowed to say so due to MHRA rules.

Mrsjayy · 25/10/2020 12:52

that's grim I have seen some Instagram/ Facebook stuff about vitamin dripsConfused

SimoneAndGarfunkel · 25/10/2020 12:53

Surely not actual into their veins?

Yes. Into their veins.

Thehop · 25/10/2020 12:53

This was being done intravenously? 😱

OverTheRainbow88 · 25/10/2020 12:54

They offer this is Vegas as a quick hangover fix
To get you out again.

Gancanny · 25/10/2020 12:54

I read an article about this a while ago, it was an American thing and the latest spa treatment. You get an IV of fluids, vitamins, etc based on what you need and its meant to make you feel good. The rehydration one supposedly excellent for a hangover although I'm not sure I'd want an IV done in the middle of a shopping centre by a non-medical professional.

YippeeKayakOtherBuckets · 25/10/2020 12:55

Ooh yes I saw this on Dragons Den. Grim.

TheVeryHungryTortoise · 25/10/2020 12:55

Was it "Get a Drip" by any chance? They've been around for a while now. I remember I few years ago they got into trouble for targeting women struggling to get pregnant with an expensive "fertility drip" that didn't have any scientific backing to it. Ridiculous company.

Trialanderror02 · 25/10/2020 12:56

Yes actually in to veins ! These bags are not nornal saline I know actually this is already outing so will attach in shopping mall and bag that we hand every night at home
This is bag they were attached to.

Next comment will be my daughters bag

It’s not a new thing. Celebs do it and have done for years. A fool and his money and all that.

WeSearchedHereWeSearchedThere · 25/10/2020 12:57

I’ve heard of these in Vegas... it’s a bit grim!

Parcelle · 25/10/2020 12:57

Yes have seen these. You can add vitamins etc depending on what you think you need.

Ridiculous. Although do know of doctors giving themselves fluids at work after a night out!

Trialanderror02 · 25/10/2020 12:57

Daughters bag that has kept her alive.

How it is legal to inject someone with a cocktail of who knows what in public?

Augustbreeze · 25/10/2020 12:58

Surely they would have to have a medical license before sticking needles into people??

Toddlerteaplease · 25/10/2020 12:58

WTF? Hope your daughter is doing well. I'm
In awe of how much TPN parents have to manage at home!

AgentProvocateur · 25/10/2020 12:58

I’ve seen this in the Far East. And also oxygen masks.

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 25/10/2020 12:59

YANBU. How does the be qualify to administer a drip for retail purposes? It sounds like the fish pedicures that used to be all the rage and will hopefully die a death just like they did.

Trialanderror02 · 25/10/2020 13:01

What annoys me the most is why it has to be in a public area of a shopping centre if people wants to do this the company should have their own clinics not a pop up shop on an open area of the shopping centre.

Toddlerteaplease · 25/10/2020 13:01

We refuse to put teenagers who come in drunk on IV fluids as they don't wake up with a hangover. The doctors are more sympathetic than us mean nurses.

Trialanderror02 · 25/10/2020 13:03

Haha @Toddlerteaplease
I just feel I don’t know maybe a little offended by it 🤣🤷‍♀️Which might be wrong but I can’t help it. My daughter goes through so much and relies on those ingredients.
