To have never tried mince pies?

I've never tried a mince pie and I'm going to try one for the first time this Christmas. What is it about them? Do you eat them alone or with an extra?

Ok that's it, I'm trying one this year.

I really can’t understand why anyone would torture themselves by eating supermarket mince pies, this includes marks 😝 It’s sickly sweet claggy, fatty and utterly repulsive. Like eating a ball of sweet soft wet concrete.

Homemade mince pies on the other hand is the food of gods. Sweet nutty almond mixed with fresh citrus lemon and orange peels, sweet mellow brandy, and plumb sultana/raisin that just melts in the mouth. With or without more cream and butter, homemade mince pie can stand by itself. Homemade all butter pastry to hug it all in...hmmmm... I think I might make a batch tomorrow.

Nothing wrong with M&S mince pies. They’re just different.

They're not my favourite food item, that is true, but they're not completely barfville. As plenty of PPs have said, best served warm with a good dollop of thick cream (fork needed).

I'd rather eat a mince pie than tripe and other similar somesuch.

Home made ones are nice. I agree best warmed a little and served with brandy butter if possible.

I love Sainsburys mine pies. The puff pastry is great on its own. Or slightly warm with some clotted cream.

I LOVE mince pies. Preferably hot with cream. But can eat cold or with custard. Get good quality ones. I prefer plain ones (no alcohol) and also not ones with icing. Also prefer shortcrust to puff.

If you try one and don't like it I'd try a few more different ones as there's a lot of variety and differences in quality and taste. Some are truly awful and not good examples of a mince pie.

Do NOT hear in a microwave as others have suggested. This will result in hard mince and soggy pastry. Heat in an oven. It only takes about 10 mins.

Enjoy!!
