Will people be trick or treating this year?

I'm not a parent so I don't know what people are planning for this year. I love it when the trick or treaters knock on the door and enjoy pumpkin carving and making something spooky for my front window. I'll still do a display but I don't know whether to get some Halloween sweets in or not. We live in a tier 1 area but I realise people will still be anxious about mixing. I also realise this question anticipates some psychic ability but parents of MN what are your chances of going trick or treating?

I’m not planning on opening the door unfortunately. Also like trick or treaters but this year I’m just not willing to take the risk. I do feel for the kids.

oopsiedaisy2 · 24/10/2020 12:10

Nope were not allowed here in wales

surprisebabyshower · 24/10/2020 12:11

We'll be guising and expecting guisers. I've made up bags already and people can pick their own bag up from a box at the front door while we listen to their joke/song/poem.

I don't see how it's any more risky than getting a food delivery etc.

People only knock on decorated houses around here anyway.

FoolsAssassin · 24/10/2020 12:12

Think we are having a pumpkin trail here. Put picture of pumpkin or pumpkin in the window. Children go out with parents and get sweets from parent for each they spot.

surprisebabyshower · 24/10/2020 12:13

I think if you're not going to answer the door then it's best not to put any decorations up

Givemeabreak88 · 24/10/2020 12:13

See I won’t be because of the pumpkin trail thing so how will you know which house is ok to knock on and which isn’t if some are putting up pumpkins for a pumpkin trail Confused

Rudolphian · 24/10/2020 12:15

We will be knocking on our family doors. A couple of aunts doors.

BigBadVoodooHat · 24/10/2020 12:15

Unlikely. I'm in a Tier 2 area that is rumoured to be heading to tier 3 any day now, but even if we weren't I wouldn't want my kids (or anyone else's) sticking their hands into a bucket of sweets that countless unidentified others have had their hands in, or being handed bagged sweets by random people.

I hate Halloween anyway though, so the virus is doing me a huge favour here.

Bwlch · 24/10/2020 12:15

I'm not expecting any as we didn't get any at all last year. I've still got the bag of sweets I bought so not a disaster if we do.

Givemeabreak88 · 24/10/2020 12:15

Exactly what I mean. How are people to know what doors are ok to knock on. The pumpkin trail is a nice idea but doesn’t make much sense as you will have people knocking

MissSmiley · 24/10/2020 12:17

Definitely not here, we will have just come out of three weeks of isolation after 5 of us have had Covid, judging by the gossip in my village I don't think anyone will come near us for weeks!

alliejay81 · 24/10/2020 12:18

I hate Halloween but I'm decorating the window and putting the sweets outside (we're tier 3). It's been miserable for everyone, kids included, and if I can make things less miserable then so be it.

Rockbird · 24/10/2020 12:18

We're usually out for Halloween so never see trick or treaters anyway, although the roads are full of them. We'll be doing our own indoor Halloween thing and I was thinking of putting out a tub of wrapped sweets and a sign saying please don't knock but help yourself to sweets etc. We're tier 1 at the moment.

Tobebythesea · 24/10/2020 12:18

We are not trick or treating here but we are leaving lights on/pumpkin out with a box of bagged sweets and a sign saying take 1. If they all go within 5 minutes we aren’t fussed.

speakout · 24/10/2020 12:19

Not allowed here in Scotland- usually a huge thing here.

muffin21 · 24/10/2020 12:20

Our Village are doing a Pumpkin Trail and provided a poster for us to stick on our door so people know we're part of the trail and don't want trick or treaters.

Will people be trick or treating this year?
Bellesavage · 24/10/2020 12:21

All the people with kids in the closest streets have all come together (on Facebook resident group) and plan to do a secret hidden sweet trail in each garden so there will be no knocking and sweets will be left out in different areas to make sure not all hands going in the same bowl. And it's secret so a load of teenagers don't swipe them all first!

surprisebabyshower · 24/10/2020 12:21

@speakout who says it's not allowed? Have I missed an announcement?
No going inside households and no more than 6 outside from 2 households doesn't mean people can't still go guising.

NoRoomInBed · 24/10/2020 12:22

Me and the neighbours have already given out treat bags to each other so it can "quarantine" then on halloween I'm doing a find the treat bag like a Easter egg hunt

THe government.

halcyondays · 24/10/2020 12:24

No, not allowed here in NI and Halloween is a big thing here. People are still decorating for it, we just won’t open the door if anyone knocks but I don’t think many will.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 24/10/2020 12:24

I’m going to decorate and stick a few small bags of sweets onto the front door. If people would like to take a bag they’re more than welcome, if not I’m sure my own dc will enjoy them!

surprisebabyshower · 24/10/2020 12:25

I don't see anywhere on the Scot gov website that tells children to stay at home this Halloween.
Do you know what date the briefing was that it was announced?

Unicorners · 24/10/2020 12:25

I don't think anyone is going out guising where we are. We are going to decorate a pumpkin and leave a bowl of sweets out on the doorstep incase anyone comes by though.
